Are they any good? No idea if it works, it's just the power head without anything attached to it. I understand the difference between a generator and an alternator. It was free and I took it thinking I could attach a bigger motor to several power heads but this thing is going to need a full rebuild.

Wondering if I should make the local scrap guy happy tonight or save it. Thanks.

Sticker says 4250 cont. watts, 120/240, 35/17.5a, 60hz, 55c temp rise. It was free, it is in my garage. If it works and is reliable I was going to give it to a friend so he can use it in his boat as belt drive to run a small ice machine and AC unit.

Is it a standalone generator head with a standard shaft sticking out? Most generator heads are designed to bolt directly to a tapered shaft on an engine.

If it has a standard shaft you could put a pulley on, there's no reason you couldn't test it. You just need to verify if it's a 2 pole (3600 RPM) or 4 pole (1800 RPM) head. To generator proper AC power, it must be turned at the correct RPM.

My brother had one years ago that sounds similar?
He made a mount to hang it on the front of his Garden tractor.
He ran a walk-in cooler with it when it had meat hanging in it.

It's made to mate up with an engine so there's no shaft on it. I guess I'll hang onto it until the Southbend is together so I can practice cutting tapers.

I have one that sounds identical to that on an 8hp B&S engine along with the framework around it. Works fine when I’ve needed it.

Thanks. That's actually a huge help. I'm still going to have to learn how to turn tapers (eventually) on a lathe but short-term I'm pretty sure I saw the B&S motor for that gen power head when I picked it up. Thanks.
