Also in the process of clearing the wall for shelving we got rid of 7 or 8 boxes of "****" and added quite a bit to the burn pile and the scrap pile.

Next weekend doesn't look to good for getting much done, The girl child has a Ice hockey turrny with a game Friday night and game Sat late afternoon and 2 games on Sun.

Yes I am, started to put the "Keep" stuff back on them before I had to leave yesterday. Granted I didn't have as much stuff going back on, but wow I couldn't believe that with everything back in place at least temporarily how much room was left.

In the end there will be 72 feet of 2 ft deep by 2 ft high shelving and approx. 90 ft of 12 inch wide by 13 inch tall shelving.

I am going to have a few spots missing in the 12x13 shelves, one area for the parts washer and two for the Napa cabinets. As of right now this will leave the area at the back under the loft will have clear walls for some bigger equipment like a mill and lathe.

Oh how I wish someone would come and do the cleaning and organizing for me!

I have figured out the 2nd biggest reason for the mess, The first being that we had to use the shop for storage when we had to move.

The second is that it's not just my stuff and projects it is also my sons x2, daughters, fathers and now my uncle's. thank god my wife's idea of a project is knitting a sweater.

Well like I thought not much progress this weekend, the hockey games got in the way, but I did get two more frames up and got the shelves on them as well as mounting one of the napa cabinets.

Sorry no pics.

Daughter forgot the camera at home this so no pics.

But I did get a lot done, All the shelves are done just need to finish putting up the back support boards. The cleaning up and sorting has taken much longer than I thought it would but have made a lot of progress.

The hardest thing so far was the piano, we tried to just move it out but 2 of the wheels were broken and missing so we ended up tearing it apart, I have never seen so many standard screws.

This coming weekend should be the final big push for a while, there are a few vehicle projects that "Need" to get done before winter.

Looks like an adventure! Think of all the stuff you will find that you forgot you had,but I agree with the previous poster, household stuff doesn't belong in the shop.every time she puts household stuff in my garage it gets donated to the circular file to be promptly picked up every Tuesday.

I'm really impressed with Shmbo, Almost all of the household stuff is gone from the shop and what isn't is in boxed high on the shelves.

Unfourtionatly this weekend I have a few repair projects to jump on, The injector pump died in my work truck, so until I get that fixed (trying to decide if I want to do it myself or send it to the shop) I need to run through my 99 suburban and get it ready for the road. My friend who is moving to Ga in a few weeks needs to get his brakes done and install a 5th wheel hitch on his 92 f150.

At least the shop is clean enough to work on these small projects.

Been a few weeks of work on Vehicles, just one left to go and I'm not the one doing the work, my son is replacing the hard brake lines in his 95 eagle vision. since he didn't get it done this weekend (I can't blame him he only had a few hours today to work on them and it was almost 100 degrees today.) I will jump on that Friday night and get them done for him.
In the process of cleaning I found 3 small boxes of Cman screwdrivers and sockets that I bought at a garage sale a few years ago. Now I know that I need a new tool chest soon I have nowhere to put the new tools that I need, I will be picking up a HF 44 in box soon hopefully that will give me the storage I need for tools for now.

On a good note the junk that was at the back of the garage absorbed the impact of my son forgetting that he had no brakes when he pulled his car in.

Re: Give me hell!!

Solution: Mrs. Jaguar Fan. I sometimes bring her into my garage with me & we go at it for an hour or so. By that time, my blood pressure is too high to proceed & I call it a day. But it helps.

I've been trying to get Peg to go at it with me in the garage for a couple years now. Maybe I haven't had any luck because I don't last an hour any more. :lol_hitti

That's the price of getting older or being married too long or both. Those all day romps are over with my friend.

Few things that I got done over the weekend.

First I got the winch cleaned up and repainted.

Then the roller fairlead was bent and the rollers didn't roll so I pulled it apart. The main reason that they didn't roll was all the rust and the fact that there was no way to lubricate them.

I decided to see if I could rectify that. I took one of the old pins and drilled and tapped the end for a 1/4-28 zerk then I drilled and relieved a hole in the side to allow the grease into the bushing area of the roller.

I also didn't have the caps to hold the pins in so I threaded the last 1/2 inch or so for a 1/2-13 nut.

This was just the test piece for proof of concept, the 2 shorter pins were so rusty that I had to replace them.
Once I had a working model I drilled, tapped and threaded all the pins. (boy now I know that I need a lathe, would have made this so much easier.)

During assembly I found that I needed to tweak the frame a bit to get everything square again, I also discovered that full size 1/2-13 nuts were too wide and I wouldn't be able to get the tip of the grease gun on, so I pulled it back apart and cut the nuts in half. fits perfectly now.

After that I spent a while cleaning and rebuilding the carb on the Honda trash pump that we use to pump lake water to water the grass and as a back up in case of fire.

Then on Monday the boy and I cleaned out the shed and made room for most of the yard equip to keep it out of the shop.

You know when you are trying to remember what you have done over a weekend some things just slip your mind. On top of the winch and cleaning I also did the brakes on my sons 95 eagle vision including replacing the hard lines from the front of the passenger compartment to both rears, PITA had to drop the rear member and the gas tank to do the drivers side, who plans where these things run.

At the end of the day I cleared off the shelves on my work table.

Got a lot done this weekend between projects I was able to clean up and sort quite a bit.

I also got to work on a few things and get some pictures of a few things for some of the threads, I'm going to post them here as well.

First off on Friday night, (the boy and I cleaned out the shed last Sunday) I had to rebuild my home made air hose reel, being out in the weather and inn the construction trailer had beat it up quite a bit.

After un wrapping 150 feet of 1/2 inch hose I had this.

I grabbed a couple of new wire spool ends off the shelf and fitted them on.

Then I reattached the hose and got ready to mount it to the loft beam

and mounted and the 150 feet of hose wrapped up.

Here are a few snaps of how my vise is mounted.

Well I was back at it this weekend, Between fall out side projects I was able to get to work on some more storage.

I bought this card file 15 or so years ago ( have a taller one with sorted nuts bolts etc.. in it) I just used it as a catch all for misc. stuff.

So I decided that it was getting to hard to move so I welded up a base with castors for it.

Here is what I pulled out of the drawers.

I figured out that some plastic bins I have will fit perfectly 15 per drawer I will have to dig them out of storage and bring them next weekend.

How many hours are you going to have sorting all that ? :lol_hitti

I have no idea, I put it in 2 5 gal buckets and will have to get to it during down time.

I'm not one of those guys who save every nut and bolt, this is mostly misc stuff that you can't just pick up in bulk at the fastener store.

When we bought our place in TN we brought a large landscaping trailer loaded down with my 3 large toolboxes, 2 Harleys and all my shop equipment, also a 28' box trailer from ABF U-pack with the household stuff, a couple pickup trucks loaded to the roof as well. Couple months later we went back & hauled the rest of the stuff we cared about down here. My barn in NH was worse than your garage and my garage up there was as well but it was all the things we had hoarded over the years and didn't care enough about on the first 2 trips South. Our NH house was on the market so something still needed to be done about it. We were actually NOT looking forward to having to go back after it and cleaning up the junk that would be left behind. One day my realtor called me and said she had a "weird offer" from a potential buyer. She said he clearly watches too much American Pickers and that he wanted the house but only if we left all the **** in the garage & barn as part of the deal. I told her to get him to sign a purchase agreement before he came to his senses & I never looked back. We have been here in Tennessee 2 years now and I can't think of one single thing I left behind that I have needed. Have a large rolloff dumpster dropped off. Fill it to overflowing with everything you haven't used in at least a year. Enjoy your new clean shop that's comfortable to work in. And send me those cabinets. I'll pay the shipping. I have the older version of the same cabinets.

Got a bit more done yesterday and today.

First up we pulled down the old lumber storage in order to put up some new shelves over the tool chests, we used up the 3 remaining shelves that were built for the other wall, 2, 8 footers 12 inches deep and 1 8 foot x 24 inch to stack lumber on, I also mounted a 8 foot light to the underside of the 24 inch deep one to light the chests. I also had a outlet strip that I mounted to the front of the lower shelf just because I had it handy.

Loving it.
I've seen too many of these sanitized show case garages when you wonder if anything gets done in there.
I like a 'worked-in' shop with character. Yours has it in spades.

Starting this thread was probably a good idea for you. Every time you get to the point that you think you're not making progress, go back to read the beginning of your thread. You're making progress, keep up the hard work.

Very workable shop area, nice work on the organization. Looks like a lot of work gets turned out there. I really like the post mounted vise. Everything is looking real good.

Thanks guys!!

It is getting there, I sure that it would be done if I had more than just weekends to work on it and didn't have to stop cleaning to work on other stuff.

But then again the projects cause me to put away stuff to get to other stuff and they are refreshing.

The big thing now is waiting for my x-mas presents, they will help a lot with the storage.

Re: Give me hell!!

I live by this:

If I haven't seen it in over a year... it gets donated or tossed.
If I haven't used it in over 2 years... it gets stored, donated, or tossed. Stored only if there is a very high likelihood of using it in the next year.

I have moved every 4 years for school, training, and jobs, and I like to have clean well organized spaces... clutter and 'useless' things drive me crazy.

Pictures of newly finished garage (new construction) to come.

I agree totatlly, however, tools are the exception!

Insulated and sky lights. Great shop. Share my shop with son who likes to bring "treasures" home. We spend most of the time trying to find a place to put stuff. Feel your pain.

LOL I should take a picture of my parents basement....it makes your shop in it's original state look organized. There's boxes in there that haven't been unpacked since the 80's and 90's.

I will post up pics of the now cleaner shop and my sis's trailer (cabin in a trailer shell) soon.

Life got very crazy here for a bit with way to many hours of work, took on the rebuilding of a cabin roof for a friend of the family, part of it caved in in heavy spring snow, and it turned into 12 weeks gutting, replacing the entire roof including replacing the rafters with trusses, all new wireing, plumbing, insulation and drywall.

I finally got a chance to take a few pics of my sisters trailer finished (well mostly) and a few of the projects that I have been working on for the last few months.

First up the trailer pics....

Screen porch with the barn style sliding door to ease her access in a chair.

Next up is a few of the inside, we did have a set back this spring, I had to tear out the built in bed that covered the elec panel in order to install a powered hospital type bed, she is now confined to a wheel chair and has to use a lifting device to transfer between the bed and chair.
Front looking back...

Kitchen area, no stove as she wouldn't be able to use it anyway.

Front area with built in seating with storage under.

Bath vanity

Now a few of the fun projects that have kept my busy. I wanted my sis to be able to use the dock and at least get out on the water. The old dock was only 32 inches wide (not safe for a person in a wheel chair) I called up the steel supplier and ordered some goodies, sorry no pics of the work in progress but similar to the design I have used for many docks over the years for clients.

There are 3 19 foot by 47 7/8ths sections 1 29.5 foot by 47 1/2 inch section, made up of three older sections I had built for my uncle 20 years ago, I connected them together with welded on side plates.
and the best part is the end section with a 8 foot by 10 foot platform, it's all on wheels and each section is hinged to the next to allow it to flex as you push it out or pull it in.

While building the new dock with my sons I realized that I had helped my uncle build the old dock 33 years ago, I would say that we got our money out of it.

On my way to work one morning about a month ago I stopped at a garage sale and picked up a Proto Tools metal box, it was rusty as hell, since I had this nice new blast cabinet I decided to give it a face lift, my guess is that it contained a 3/4 inch socket set with the way the interior is divided.

I have no idea what it is going to hold, maybe I will free up some tool drawer space and put my seldom used 3/4 drive craftsman set in it.

Went to an auction last week and picked up a few things, lots of cheap chicom **** but a few gems mixed in.
the good stuff from a $7.00 bucket

A equalizer hitch all cleaned up / painted and ready for a 2 inch ball (all my trailers now have 2 inch couplers making my life easier)

About two months ago a friend dropped off a 12 ton HF shop press that he had gotten for free.

Cleaned up and repainted with some plates and a few rounds that I picked up from the steel yard. I always paint the accessories for a press a bright color so everyone knows they aren't scrap.

And last but not least, my uncle dropped off a half finished cedar strip canoe that he had been working on before his divorce.
