Hope things are going well. My week is not going as planned, I hope yours is. When you reinstall the seat bolts, put never seize on them, they will never come back out, the factory has them protected and once you pull them it is gone. I have learned this the hard way.

Week at the shop went well, the dinner with the wife did not happen, she ended up working so I stayed out at the shop for a few extra days and got more stuff done on the truck.

Truck thread here

Good tip on the seat belts, I will do that to the ones I have not bolted back on yet, the shoulder restraint belt is on and I am not taking the seat cover off again to redo it.

Things Wednesday went as planned mostly, I had to run to my fathers store before heading to the shop, checked out the tarp we put on his roof awhile back and it is fine I also picked up 25-30 sheets of 22x30 card stock to use for CAD (Cardboard aided design) which I needed for the bumper builds.

Took less time than I figured to clean out the area at the front of the shop so I had room to work on the bumper, nice having access to those shelves again as well.

The kids talked me into starting a youtube channel so we took a bunch of video over the weekend as well as soon as we get it edited I will post a link so you all can watch me make a fool of myself.

Tuesday we are headed off to Chicago to visit the daughter and go to Fabtech......

I have wanted to do some videos, but I don't have a decent camera yet. I figure at some point I will, just not sure what that point will be.

Glad to hear you got to use the shop for its intended purpose, nice feeling for sure.

I was worried about my cheap Cannon point and shoot but the damn thing takes good video.

Getting to build the bumper not only validated the cost and time spent on the shop but on several of my tool buys as well, to get everything done I used the new drill press, the band saw, plasma cutter, taps and the welding table.

Of course to finish the grill guard I need to go pick up the HF tubing bender but that will come in handy for future projects too.

I love being able to use my good deals. Today I needed some wire and connectors and I found everything I needed without making a trip to the parts store. My biggest issue is keeping it organized so I can find it when I need it.

A tubing bender would be a nice addition for sure. Glad you got to use the new acquisitions as well.

So the kids talked me into starting a YouTube channel, I figure with their help I can make a go of it. Something another YouTube creator said got me more interested.

Not an exact quote but the jist was that we as tradesmen/women have the responsibility to pass along our skills and love of working with tools to the next generation and one way to do that is through mass/social media.

So please help a guy out and check out my channel (In my sig) and comment/like and subscribe.

I like the shop. Subscribed to your channel and truck build thread. I'm still on the fence between replacing the bumper with oem on mine or building one like yours.

Move your response over to the truck thread.

I wanted more protection from deer and I wanted a more aggressive look and a place for the winch so for me it was a no brainer to build what I wanted.

I feel real good today, we got a lot done on the clean up of the shop this weekend, while I was working on the truck the boy dug in and put stuff away where it belongs and sorted a ton of stuff.

Then he did something awesome, he nagged and berated me until I went through all the boxes of misc ****.

Then I forgot to take any pics.

I will get some next weekend and make sure to post them, which I should be able to do from the shop.

I had the internet reconnected there!

With my ageing parents and my sister not doing well I decided that I needed better cell service since I have been spending so much time there.

My choices were a cell attenna/booster or the mini tower that connects to the net.

It made more sense to me to go the internet route.

That is great, except now you won't get as much done, GJ kills my productivity!

We shall see, I usually don't take the laptop to the shop with me and I hate posting and reading on my phone.

I was however thinking of picking up a cheap desk top for the shop.....

Well finally got the internet set up at the shop, it was one ****-up after another. First off my neighbor gave my address for his phone so they didn't show up because there was a active phone line. Got that straightened out and it took 6 more days to get a guy out to set up the line.
They were supposed to ship the modem but since they canceled the work order it never got shipped. When I called it took them 25 minutes to figure out what was going on and said they would ship it next day, Yeah right. I got there on Friday expecting the modem to be sitting there, nope, another call and 20+ minutes before they figured that it didn't get shipped again.

This time they got it right and it got shipped on Saturday UPS Next day, so it showed up today (Monday) at about 1pm.

I had to call tech support during the set up because they had neglected to give me my user name and password.

But I did finally get it set up and working about 2pm, then it was just a matter of connecting the mini-tower from Verizon and waiting about an hour for it to sync up and all is good, I now have wired and wireless internet and cell service in the shop, I'm happy and SWMBO is very happy.

To be continued.....

"Sometimes you need to make a mess to clean up a mess"

Since I was stalled on the truck project (Couldn't find the .023 drive roller for the welder) I/we (Oldest boy) decided that we should work more on cleaning up the woodworking side of the shop.

We had 2 areas of wall not being used very well, the first was where we had a tool board and book shelf, kinda wasted space.

We scrounged the wood rack and came up with a few bits and built a quick and dirty shelving unit to hang in that space, not complete yet need to add the 2nd set of shelving.

This area will now hold all the books, manuals, and magazines along with some other stuff.

First half.

Next up was the area above and behind the wood lathe, I had a couple of small parts drawers and a clamp rack here. We will add another clamp rack to the wall to the left with the other clamps and fill the scavenged cabinets with fasteners. and the top of the cabinets will be shelf space for more of the bulk fasteners.

And here is the pile of **** that we had to move around in order to get the cabinets up.

After a bunch of back and forth the big assembly table will be going, to be replaced by a new wood working bench about 6 feet by 2 feet giving us much more room to move around. I have another assembly top that sits on horses for those times where a larger table is needed.

Not much been to busy working in the shop to work on it.

Of course that was the goal and for now I am happy to say that I can work in here comfortably, I can walk around, use all the equipment and not have to move something to get to something else.

Projects that have been completed in here in the last 6 months.

New tool storage and work bench

Welding/fab table

2001 Chevy 2500hd new to me.

Plus a ton of smaller projects, got the 20" bandsaw up and running, the Clausing drill press is ready to work and the new to me vise on it's new stand.

All in all it has been a very productive 6 to 8 months.

I have been goofing around in sketch up, trying out different machine locations to see how I can make the work flow better.

I finished up the intake on the 01 Tahoe the other day in between distractions and am now finishing up the detailing so I can sell it.

Here are the links to the threads for some of these projects.

Since I now have access to the wood lathe.

Strouty I have to give you a big thanks, for asking and making me think about all I have been able to get done in the last year or so. Kind of gave me a lift and a bit of energy to get some more done.

Forgot at add that I don't think that I have been any more productive than you, your progress on your shop has been very impressive and a motivator to me and many others.

I'm sure that once your elbow is healed that you will get more done.

How is the paper work going?

I think this is one of those situations that spirals out of control, but in a good way!

I agree other then the sick enabling qualities that we all seem to have driving all of us to get tools, upgrade tools and waste time searching for the best deal on equipment and tools when we could be working with said tools.

Thumper: you haven't updated your garage thread in a while. i know you are busy, but i think the lathe and your anvil and maybe a few other things are worthy of a post or two if you have some time.

also your shop videos are great so post up a few more if you've made some since you last posted on this thread for others to see.

cheers
