GJ Challenge: All Canadian tool set?

Interesting challenge. I could fill a small tool box with nothing but Impact Poly Hammers. I have 10 of them. Troy Erler who is the manufacturer is a close friend. I just spent a couple days out at his place last weekend. The 17 lb sledge is aweome and more useful than some might imagine. Often a soft blow from a really big dead blow is far more gentle to the object than a hard blow from a smaller one. The 52 oz is a workhorse and will do some serious persuading. I use all that I have and even have a few duplicates so that I have ones for ugly work and ones to keep a bit prettier. Troy's hammers are literally hand made. The molds are all milled manually taking countless hours and the steel inserts are all hand fabricated. The polymer is hand cast one at a time using top quality materials. You'd be hard pressed to find a better performing longer lasting hammer.

In the US Troy will sell direct to you. If you are in Canada and don't have dealer near you I'm sure he'll work something out for you. I can get them as well.

only fuller screwdrivers (the standard not the pro) are made in Canada well assembled in Canada...

The Fuller Pro 300's with the acetate handle (shown in Rocco's post) are "Made in Canada" whereas the comfort handle Pro 700's are made overseas.

The similar Harbor Freight / Princess Auto designs, manufactures allot of their hydrolic parts for heavy farm industries, as well as some Powerfist tools. 90% of those are made over seas though.

But I have seen a few random things from Princess Auto that is made in Canada from them . . .

I've noticed that some Mastercraft (Canadian Tire) and Craftsman (Sears Canada) tools are exactly the same except for the brand stamp (this included the stamped number on them). As for where they're made... I'm sure it's offsore.

Hey, I'm new here, but saved this thread a long time ago because I'm a geek when it comes to buying Canadian tools (next is USA if I can't find Canadian), finally decided to join the group.

I live near the U.S. border, and frequently go to Sears in the U.S. - a large majority of their Craftsman USA stuff is STILL made in the U.S. - quality chrome polish wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers etc. all at seriously kickarse prices, with full warranty, when comparing to Snap-On etc. I've actually found pawn shop US made Craftsman here, that were broken/chipped etc., took it back to a Sears store in the U.S. - and BAM! The clerks hand me a brand new one! I've done this on chisels and sockets.

The only Craftsman CANADA stuff still made in Canada that I can think of are the screwdrivers. I bought the last mini and regular copper pipe cutters at my store that were Canadian made - sad because the chinese versions behind them on the rack were the same price. If they're making them for probably 1/10th of the cost, why aren't they 1/10th the price?

Finally, I don't understand why Sears Canada would sell a totally different line of Craftsman products than Sears USA - I understand they're separately owned, but if USA can get quality US made Craftsman for really good prices, why wouldn't Sears Canada just import the SAME U.S. made Craftman stuff? When Sears Canada head office orders massive quantities of tools, wouldn't it possibly cheaper to ship from the U.S. than from overseas?

As for Canadian Tire, all screwdrivers are overseas now, along with nutdrivers. I found this out when noticing two different types of handles in on the same sale peg. The Canadian drivers had really nice grip handles, and when I realized they were all switching over, I made sure I hit every store in my area over a couple weeks to make sure I owned every freakin' Canadian one that I could. The nutdrivers I bought in metric and SAE sets.

If you get a chance - check out your CTC to see if any of the Canadian ones are left! I've still seen a few at my stores! I also know that they're $10 tool caddy is made here - goes on sale often. They have a glass cutter tool still made here, not that I'd ever use one. ALL, if not 99% of tool cabinets and boxes they sell are overseas now.

Most Sears Craftsman CANADA cabinets and boxes are still made here, at great prices, especially when they go on sale practically every weekend.

Was using my hacksaw the other day, and noticed it was marked 'Made in Canada.' It's a Mastercraft, which I think was a rebranded Fuller.

REALLy!? ....isn't that just the Bessey Canada website? I thought Bessey is all German-made, with some items made in China and IIRC, some in USA as well(?). I certainly haven't seen any Canadian-made Bessey products.

It's a Black Diamond brand (part of Nicholson). According to a long-time Nicholson distributor in Japan, the made in Canada Nicholson files were the best ones ever made by them. I wonder where they were located in Canada.

No, never heard of Hercules... Is it marked Canada? As you likely know, all genuine Robertson tips are two-piece, but it could simply be licensed; Fullers are two-piece, for instance.

Hah, I shoulda know better; my WiLL screwdrivers have that exact phrase on the handle.

Here's also a Compothane hammer that's made by Urethane Products. I believe they supplied Stanley, which then sold it under the MAC label.
They were notorious for coming apart as they aged. Mine is a culprit as well:

Cluthe Handles - I still see them (I'm pretty sure they're still in production too) at Home Hardware stores.

I think they were under their newer name "Onward Cluthe"

Yup, that's correct: Onward Cluthe, and the current-production file handles are black (looks cheap, imo).

I've looked quite a bit on the net and haven't found anything.

I myself own quite a few Canadian made tool:
-Will screwdrivers (complete set)
-Fuller screwdriver (a couple of set)
-Picquic regular and mini multibit screwdriver
-Challenger Canada (Proto) ratchet
-Snap-On Canada 1/2" 15" long ratchet
-A couple of socket made by Snap-On Canada

and I'm sure a forgot a few more.

Oh, and probably a MegaPro ratcheting screwdriver soon...

I have one Canforge wrench as well.

I emailed them to get an approximate age, but I never got a reply back.

The wrench, which I don't have a picture of, had the following forge markings:
Top side: "G-4-4 CANFORGE-WELLAND-ONT"
Back side: "11/16 FORGED STEEL TREATED 19/32"
