I'm new here, is there a secret santa rules thread floating around? This sounds like such a cool idea.

The rules for this year will probably be posted in an informational thread when the time rolls around but from what I remember last year it was required that you be a senior member >100 posts to partake, the gifts were pretty much wide open but were usually tools $20-40 seemed to be about the average amount spent on the gifts.

It's a neat idea and I received and sent some cool stuff last year!

I'll be doing it again. :)

I'll definitely be doing it this year. I'm still upset that I missed it last year.

Members who sign up for it get their name dropped in a hat. Then each person gets a pull and they get a gift for that person for christmas. Usually in the $30-40 range I believe and usually a tool or tool associated. Looks like a fun time.

I did not anticipate this much reaction so early in the year.

I would like to make a few points about the Secret Santa event.

This year, there will be a requirement to be a senior member (have over 100 posts when signing up) or be a member here for over 6 months (from December 1st).

This is not done to make post whores or rack up additional posts on the board or exclude new people. It simply is the only valid way to vet members. There are great people who may only have a handful of posts so please do not feel completely excluded.

Note: Even with these rules we occasionally have some who sign up and we never hear from them again.

Or, they decide that since they did not get a gift (the member disappeared), then they feel no need to send a gift to their designated Secret Santa (this is a non reciprocal Secret Santa, meaning your secret Santa is not the one you have to buy a gift for). This particular member is still active on the board and is not welcome to participate as long as I am still coordinating this. You are a shitbird and a true christmas grinch and yes you know who you are... You never apologized and the member you were responsible to get a gift to was covered by someone else. If you reply, I will not see it because I have all your meaningless posts blocked.

All I ask is that if you do commit to this, then please follow through. If for some reason you decide to back out, let me know as soon as possible and arrangements can be made so someone isn't left out. Every year we have people who cover for the jerks who commit to the event and then disappear.

This is done with the spirit of giving in the holiday season, So I try to remember that we are doing pretty well considering the volume of members that do participate and have a great time, it is just a small few who make it difficult.

Cheers,

Loved doing it last year, can't wait for this year. Note to all participants- photo your drawers or shop so we can all get a good idea of what to buy. I will be doing so as it makes it fun for my santa, everybody wants to be the santa that gave the coolest gift.

Wouldn't it be kind of tough to go through 100+ posts per person to see if they are mKing a lot of 1 word posts? Lol

I still think that it should cost a dollar to get in. The dollar is paid to the coordinator. The dollar does a few things. Those to lazy to make the effort to get t he dollar in will be out. The dollar will be a gift to the coordinator to make a small compensation for the time and headaches he goes through. The dollar could also go to pay for a gift to the deserving that the dead beats shaft.

no neat sig line
