This is my first year participating, and I'm grateful to be a part of this year's Secret Santa.

I am a fortunate individual.*@#$ I work very hard like everyone here.*@#$ I put in 10-12 hour days and work to make time for my personal passion; Pro Mud & Sand Drag Racing.

I buy tools, based upon two (2) factors:

Does the tool have a reputation for function? (peer review)

Will I get a strong return on investment? (use beyond initial application)

I'm not into NASCAR, never have been.

I have t-shirts that are 10 years old, I tend to take care of what I have.*@#$ Heck, my dually is 23 years old and still going strong.

I wanted one of those huge novelty Snap On ratchets, after 2 years.. found one and bought it for my birthday.

I raced monster trucks for several years, still have friends in the business.

Tools to me, always have uses. I can do anything, with the right tool in hand.

I trust you'll read this and my post history.. and you'll be fine.

Not your average Tool Addict..

I will be happy with whatever my secret santa gives me. Honestly! I’d prefer you pull something you already have versus going out to buy something new. Here is a short bio if you need ideas. I grew up in Wisconsin, so I’m definitely a Packers fan! I moved with my family to North Idaho when I was 20. I then spent a year in Papua New Guinea doing Christian humanitarian/mission work, so I do like cultural and third world stuff. I went to Bible college for three years and graduated. That summer I married a gal I had met in school. Both me and my wife went back to PNG for two months, two and a half years ago. Currently we have one daughter with another one on the way. Here two and a half years ago I decided I wanted to enter the Automotive field and enrolled in school. I am currently in school to become an automotive technician. I will graduate in May.
Fun fact: Even though I have a large number of tool brands in my box, besides Knipex, I have not had the chance to use any European tool brands. I haven’t used Tekton or Toptul either.
Things I collect for fun:
-Barcalo Buffalo convex wrenches and pliers
-Proto/Plomb wrenches and ratchets
-1/2 and 3/8 ratchets
-Vintage battery pliers, linesman pliers, and odd pliers

Things I need but do not expect to get:
-A good automotive multimeter
-Backprobes, test leads, piercing probes, etc.
-Mini amperage amp clamp (either one that plugs into a meter or a stand-alone unit.)
-o2 sensor sockets
-Oil filter sockets for element filters

Other interests include steam engines, vintage gas engines, vintage cars, snowmobiling, and hunting. Thanks!

Good point about buying something new Flinter, I don't want to burden anyone with having to purchase stuff. A while back we did a GJ swap, got some really cool stuff, but my favorite thing was a railroad track insulator. So I am not asking anyone to give up their favorite tool, but something with a little personal backstory is always cool.

This is my first GJSS and I have been looking forward to it for many moons.
I would appreciate any kind of local food, stuff your area or even state are known for, especially your favorite!
I rarely wear hats or logo t-shirts. I don't drink coffee or alcohol much. Not a sports fan, but do watch an occasional NASCAR race. I have been told I have an “unusual” sense of humor, so I find humor almost everywhere. Every day I try to learn something new, but sometimes it isn't pretty.
I like car, tool or aviation themed stuff.
If you create garage related artwork, I would really like a small sample of your art for a place of honor on my desk, garage wall, or work bench.
I am a Chevy guy who drives a Ford which is actually a Mazda. (Sigh.)
I like to read all kinds of stuff, so I would very much appreciate a list of your favorite books for entertainment, enlightenment, or “how-to-do” stuff. I am always picking up a book here and there, and would like to see what you like or have found useful. There are zillions of books out there, and I could sure use your help finding the good ones.
I just recently received a Plomb Tools key chain screwdriver. As a result, I am looking for other tool brands' key chain screwdrivers, so if you have an extra one to pass along, that would be great.
As far as tools go, I am a Channellock fan and would like to add any of these weapons to the arsenal of my toolbox: nutbuster pliers 410, 414, 307, or welding pliers 360 or 360CB, or a package of #2 screwdriver bits.
Thanks to everyone for participating in the GJSS, making it fun, and making smiles happen.

Hey there Secret Santa. I've never been a big poster here, always enjoyed just reading threw what's already been said. I've been on here even less as of late because I just finished up purchased my first home right in the heart of Fells Point (Baltimore) MD. It is an amazing little row home filled with quarks and history. I love it!

For work I'm a tech for the local Hyster dealership. I'm very fortunate to work with a bunch of great people. My hobbies now include home repairs (well I was already doing this anyway), repurposing old things like a pair of hydraulic cylinders I recently turned into lamps, A little bit of bicycling (have a Giant mountain bike and Fuji cruiser), checking out museums (I've always been a bit of a history buff) and long romantic walks on a moonlit beach.... wait wrong forum for that one lol. I would like to think I have a pretty good sense of humor. At least I make myself laugh.

As for my want list, besides maybe a welcome mat for the front door I'm pretty well set on material things. Can't say I'm much of a hat guy. I may be a bit of a tool hoarder though, anytime there is a good deal or yard sale I'm always picking up another one. What I really want is something from you, I would be thrilled for you share a story about yourself and what you do. Send me something that has to do with your hometown, maybe a local product you are known for (like coffee, sauces, seasonings) or something from a local artisan would be awesome too. Tear down your street sign or old license plate and send it to me if need be. Really I have some wall space to fill up now. If you have a talent for whittling wood or welding a cool owl I would be proud to display it. Oh and tools are always welcome, new or old they all have a place in my boxes.

In the end I just want you to have fun with this and hope that it brings as much excitement to you as it has for me in years past. I wish happy holidays to you and yours. Now I just need to find out the name of my victim so I can start stalking them hehehe...

I have done this for the 5th year in a row and it seems to get better every year. I am REALLY into vintage Toyota 4x4's. Love the FJ40, 45, 60, 62, 70, 73, 80 series Land Cruisers as well as the mini trucks from 79-95. I will argue with most on the durability and reliability of the 22R and 22RE Toyota 4cyl engine.

I like to MIG weld, and use just about any tool used for such welding. Get what you can. I'm not picky.

Well, Last year I know my Secret Santa read through here, because he got me exactly what I wanted, and then some, (Thank You RStewart!) So I figure I should post again...

In the last year I've gotten a lot done, but not yet at building the bar. Hopefully I can start that soon. We have a barn door into the area, so any decor around a barn would be cool. I'm thinking about doing a concrete bar top, so if there's any tools that would make this much easier to smooth out, that might be helpful. I'm still without a project car, but I'm generally a Ford guy, despite some of the recent donations the company has made.

I enjoy cooking on the grill, and like to try out some new barbecue sauces, preferably tame stuff, it's easier to get the wife/kids to eat. Oh yeah, I have 2 dogs, a wife and 2 daughters. I enjoy a good Wheat Beer, not a big fan of IPA's, but I don't really drink too often, as time & kids don't usually allow.

But I love my Pontiacs currently restoring a 1965 GTO.
I ride a 2012 Harley Street Glide.
I'm not a snob when it comes to tools brands I have them all.
Merry Christmas one and all.

Because I ran into this last year makes it tough!! So, while I like pretty much anything, in addition to the usual Garage stuff.

I am a machinist, love old printed machinist stuff! Pocket slide rules, pocket drill charts, inch to decimal charts wall or pocket sized. Love coffee and scotch. Wear an xl sized shirt. Do not wear hats. Drive a toyota made in america , have a small farm and love my old utility atv, an arctic cat 300 . Do a little deer hunting to put meat in the freezer. Love knipex pliers. Most of my hand tools are proto, cordless tools are Ryobi 18V . Could use a LED headlamp.

A NICE 4x4 PICKUP TRUCK (YELLOW)

Hopefully this should help. Started my dream job this past July as an Amusement Ride Mechanic. I work with a lot of SAE stuff! Also just bought a 72" Snap On toolbox that is lacking in organization. A few other things is I love European made tools and also obscure quality tools. Different is always cool with me!

Non tool related - I love Jerky. I wear a hat daily. I also collect diecast construction equipment.

My signature shows what I own and also dig through my posts!

First off, I️ will appreciate anything and just happy to be part of this event.

Personally I️ really like vintage American tools like Craftsman, Bonney, Duro Chrome...etc. I’m restoring a 1960 Chevy Truck and doing most of the work myself so it’s not going to be perfect, but do like almost anything Chevy.

I️ would greatly appreciate anything from your home state or town. I️ find this to be one of the best things of being part of the GJSS.

I don't post here much but do lots of reading. I will be building a new 30x40 detached shop next year. Most of my existing tools will stay in my garage so I will need almost everything. Any new or old USA tools are fair game.

I work on vintage Honda ATCs and vintage Gravely 2 wheel tractors.

I like to cook on my Big Green Egg so any sauces/rubs from local area would be great.

One can never have too many flashlights or knives (spyderco is my favorite).

I do need a set of lug nut impact sockets.

If I am your guy, don't stress too much over what to get. I love participating in this tradition and am thankful for whatever I get no matter how big or small.

So, a few hints.

let's start with my handle, "BikerDad". I adopted it more than 20 years ago, during the infancy of the Internet (one of my email addresses is a netscape.net address). At the time, it referred to my bicycling habit, and my most important job, Dad. Now it refers to motorcycling and my most important accomplishment. It does NOT refer to being a 1%'er, or a wanna-be 1%'er. I do not ride, nor have any desire for a Harley or the H-D trappings. When I accessorize my bike, I do it with farkles, not chrome.

In addition to motorcycling, woodworking is a serious interest of mine. It is a hobby, not a paying gig. I plan on doing some combined wood and metal work down the road. Tool wise, I'm pretty much squared away for working wood as a hybrid woodworker, using Western tools, though I've some curiosity regarding handtools from the Land of the Rising Sun. With the exception of large turnings, I can do anything I need to do in my shop, at least until I fall afoul of the siren calls of steam bending, veneering, carving and casting. And no, this may come as a shock, but I actually do not need any more clamps.

The only beer I consume is used in cooking (which I enjoy), ditto for wine. I'm just not a fan of the taste of either. I read. A lot, although nowhere near as much as I used to, unless one counts time reading on the 'net as "reading." (I generally don't.) I love seeing what folks do with their garages, as a source for learning how to do things, warning of pitfalls (sometimes literally), and also as fuel for my inspiration engine. Tools are the same. They hold potential, just waiting to be released. I am far more enamored with the creativity of the human spirit when it is applied to functional and practical purposes than mere decoration or amusement, so tools simply mean more to me than any "profound" art work.

I love America. I've lived in 4 states, spent a month or longer in another 6 states, and visited every other state except for Alaska.

First, I'll copy what someone else said that fits me pretty good:

"I’m good with anything really. Regional stuff is great, tools, stickers, hats, shirts (XL), anything car, truck, welding, machining, related. I’m not picky and can find a use for about anything."

I work in industrial maintenance. I am a CNC lathe, mill, grinder, and robot mechanic. I love anything to do with industry or factories, especially machining factories. I have to wear a hat every day and always like having something different.

I am an avid mountain biker and road cyclist and do a lot of bike mechanic work for friends. Also an avid beer and bourbon drinker :). I do a lot of grilling but that is about as far as my cooking goes. I drive a Toyota Tundra that I tinker with outfitting for expedition style off-roading, but don't have an official project right now. After getting settled in my new garage I will likely pick up an old Land Cruiser as a project.

Other relevant information is that I'm currently building a house and soon after the first of the year will be moved in and setting up my garage. I'll have to build a couple of work benches and get some leveling feet to level everything as the floor does have a slope, then I get to decorate it a bit. After I get the garage setup, I will be finishing the basement. This is a first for me because I have always done automotive/cycling related work with mostly steel and haven't done much in the way of carpentry.

i am super excited to be part of GJSS this year and i hope to become a yearly participant! I am super easy to please so regardless of what i end up with i will be happy.

my favorite things are tools that help you get out of a jam. Anything that can make life a little easier when working on oddball projects or when you have totally destroyed the only bolt you have before you can finish a project. I am a huge HF fan so i have no shame in using cheap tools when they can get the job done right.

I have an 89 foxbody with a turbo LS swap that i custom built from scratch. I love drag racing and getting my hands dirty custom fabbing things and learning a new skill along the way. I am the type of person who will go out and spend $400 on a specialty tool to learn a new skill compared to paying someone $600 to do it for me. I am an EE by profession which helps when working on car stuff and i also appreciate projects around the house. I am really looking at getting into machining so if you want to mail over a 3-axis mill i wont be mad =P.

I am a size Large t-shirt and i like bright colors. I dont really drink hard alcohol or wine but i love my craft beers (sours and hefe's) and i recently picked up a smoker and have really been enjoying that as well.

Well ,
I guess I need to put something down , I refuse to do a straight link list lol last time I did that someone took it as a shopping list and got the whole dang thing ! With things the way they are economy wise I am loathe to put much on the list if you have a really good local made regular jerky that would be fine or something along that genre Anyhow here goes other stuff.
I just bought a Kubota Bx 1880 tractor have most everything I need could maybe use a 5/16" grade 80 chain for lifting 10 or so foot long .
I do metal work in my home shops have all the basics and then some but I don't have a circle cutter or a rosebud head for my Oxy / Acytl torch yet.

World Peace?

Much like in past years, I'll suggest the same. I love things with "stories". Perhaps a wrench stolen for your old work place or a flashlight that helped you find your lost pet monkey.

I don't wear hats. Not allowed to drink alcohol. I wear xxl shirts.

I restore Airstreams and teach space exploration. I have a fab lab and a precision wood shop.

I informally "collect" old Snap-on stuff. I could use a some specialty hammers like brass or copper. Also a leather mallet. I really like older ones!

In truth, something unique that you enjoy finding would be great. I know I enjoy prepping the gift more than getting one. I wish the same for you.

I almost forgot to post here, well I actually don't use tools while working my main job, I am a prison guard but my dad owns his own constructions business and I work with him part time which is everyday sometimes, I work night at the prison so I can work with him during the day. I do everything on my own vehicles and for friends and family. I am not picky on brands except I try to stay away from Chinese made. I like anything USA made and any quality tools. I don't wear hats, I wear a 2x shirt. I am a Ford guy, well more mustang and Ford truck guy.

I guess I'm one of those people who doesn't NEED anything. Lately, I've been getting into repairing small engines and learning as I go. Also, I've built my SK 1/4" collection to the max, now I'm working on 3/8". I've got the metric and SAE regular sockets, extensions, and ratchets. So......

My hints:

Feel free to be creative in what you pick, as my internists are diverse! - but if you need specific hints, based on my usual "I'm interested in trading for" list, and added to:

I'm big into Plvmb (Plomb), Pexto, Long C Craftsman, interesting hammers & hatchets (mostly staying with ones with labels, unless really different), Tiny Tools (don't laugh - see the thread), I recently made a small indoor work bench (drop leaf too!), and added a very old wood machinists tool chest on top; so things that might be a fit there?

Old German/Solengin knives/hatchets, mostly hunting (Love the steel these are made from), Buck knives also; Suzuki Samurai's, vintage camping gear, trick useful camping gear (I've been known to make A LOT of my own stuff...)

I've recently been revamping my camping/hunting gear (see the camping gear thread in my sig) and have started restoring old Coleman style gas (not propane) Lanterns in particular, with a strong leaning to single mantle lanterns.

Not really into hats (The wrong fit gives me headaches...), beer/alcohol, or cheese, but other than that, I'm pretty easy as my interests are very diverse.

This is my first Secret Santa and my wife share my excitement to join you this year. Here some clue on me and my interest but as I like many things, feel free to go with your ideas. Just to participate, it's so funny itself.

-I'm a PK Subban fan;
-I'm a dog lover, crazy of basset hound, having two of them, one cocker and one mixed boxer. They are absolutely family members.
-I wear XL
-Working gloves size Medium
-I like gadgets utility
-I love tools, tools and tools that I can't say I have enough: screwdrivers, ratchet, storage stuff, etc...
-I own Dewalt 18v kit and one impact drive 20v; also Milwaukee 12v drill and many Ryobi tools that I cherish a lot as there are my first kit. I don't have Dewalt 18v to 20 v adapter.
-I have an ATV for snowplowing my driveway.
-I have a Bobcat tractor CT122 for doing some landscaping around; it needs two cover seat: one for the tractor and one for the backhoe, I can't find it around here as there is no more Bobcat dealer around.
-I'm a psychotherapist and zootherapist; so any office stuff can be nice as well.

Hope you enjoy your participation in Secret Santa, as much as I do.

Now that secret santa is officially underway... I guess I should make a quick post in here.

I'm really not picky and will appreciate anything I receive. This is a special Christmas for us this year, as it will be our first with our new baby girl. She's 8 months old right now. Aside from tools/garage/wrenching/home improvement type stuff, I love to snowboard, bike, hike etc. Love to experience things from other parts of the country too so if there's something cool your area is known for that's always exciting. Shirt size is large. don't drink... but really, I'm happy with whatever you're gracious enough to send me!

How come I never get someone easy to peg with gifts!? My victim has even posted here, but now all I know is what he's NOT a fan of...........

As for me, old, very old mechanics tools such as those in my signature. But I'll be happy with anything at all.

First I want to thank the Secret Santa's of the past! All have done a great job and I am happy to play along again this year. With that said, I like lots of different things.
Things I like:
Tools are always fun, but I have most of what I need.
Vintage Ford stuff
72 Montego GT (I have one)
I like to fabricate metal.
I like to build with wood.
Really, most anything will be great! Interesting stuff from you area is fun too??

I am pretty much set for hand tools. The only hand tools I need building on are my hammers really. I don't have any deadblow or ball pein hammers yet. A few other things I am looking for are a snap-on stubby ratcheting screwdriver or a snap-on 5-position screwdriver. I cant really think of anything else. I also love surprises so feel free to be creative.

Just to help, I am an xl shirt, not against hats, big mild coffee drinker. The darker stuff gives me heartburn like you read about.

I have a few interests, but basically enjoy fox body mustangs, ferrari’s, and tinker in the garage quite a bit. I have all the basic covered tool wise.

I appreciate the thought more, and again don’t want to seem like i’m asking, but I’ve been in the situation with a guy before that was impossible to nail down the perfect gift, so I want to make it a little easier.

I think I've done the GJSS every year, except one, and in my experience each SS did a pretty thoughtful job, stuff I'd never expect either. That said, I'm not picky.

However, if you need a little help, I recently "finished" renovating my garage and I have a few spaces to hang things up or a shelf where I have a bunch of old quirky cool-to-me items. I think homemade hammers are cool, I've got a few. I like quality tools whether they're new or used or made in the US, German, Japanese, etc. I don't need all that much but I've been given a few things that I didn't know I needed until I was gifted them.

To get to know me best I think you'd have to read my thread (linked below).

As I said before, I like the color blue. I like candy, not a fan of dark chocolate or black licorice. I have no known allergies to food or tools, my Chinese tools play nice with my USA stuff. If there was one thing I can't stand it is the smell of Chinese rubber. I have a soft spot for GM 6.5 turbo diesels, I drive a 1997 suburban and a 2002 volvo V70 XC. Lately I have been enjoying tools from Japan, I have lots of the engineer brand screw extraction pliers. Since I live in the rust belt, most everything I work on is rusty and not really fun to work on. Sadly I don't have many hobbies, I am a hoarder, but only of the good stuff. I build radio and television towers, my favorite TV show is Law & Order, but I also like shows like Firefly. I weld, I grind, I wear safety glasses and ear plugs. I hate the snow as much as I hate the heat. I just bought myself a 1/4" drive reetchet and some new turbo sockets. I love funky things with back stories, I collect lots of things, so most anything would fit in with my eclectic taste. Be creative, don't feel obligated to spend money, I enjoy the hunt more than anything, hopefully you will have fun finding something too.

You guys that have wrote a couple sentences could give the guys some more help.

My secret santa could simply look at my threads and posts to figure it out. Though if I really needed anything it would be a couple books for a newbie to milling. I have these machines in my garage. Hypertherm 45xp, Miller 252 mig welder, Miller 250DX tig welder with coolmate 3, Jet metal drill press, and Milwaukee band saw with a swag portaband table. I just bought swag offroad dimple and knock out punch kit. I also have a harbor freight shop press that I bought all the extra stuff from swag off road for it. I have a lot of mechanic tools, wrenches, sockets, ratchets, and so on. I also have a lot of stuff from Milwaukee.

Some ideas I am about ready to start reloading. I bought the RCBS big kit to be able to reload. I bought a road bike earlier in late summer after realizing the mountain bike sucked on the roads. I love target shooting but dont get out much. The rest I would say surprise me.

Not too many tools that I've needed lately that I don't currently have. A few motorcycle specific tools (mainly work on Honda's and KTM's) would come in handy. I've been thinking of getting the Motion Pro 08-0073 Tappet Tool Set to speed up valve adjustments. For any hints non-tool related, I don't drink coffee or wear hats. I enjoy craft beers (pretty much any other than stouts and porters), with a strong preference towards IPA's and sour beers.

I debated about adding to this thread. I feel as though I may be making a want list, and that's not my intention, but I do know this helps out. I'll help by also telling about me and my interests. I'm a maintenance electrician/HVAC tech for UPS. I have three small children (9,7, and 4) that keep me very busy. I love old muscle cars, trucks, motorcycles, and boats. Pretty much if it has an engine and attitude, it will get my attention. I also play the drums and do some recordings. I'm building a new house and will have a basement shop where (HOPEFULLY) I'll have the room to have all of my fab tools set up. I mostly like to work with metal, but have doing more and more projects with wood lately. I do like sports, but I haven't the time to really get into any right now. I don't drink coffee or booze, but I like most beers (no wheat beer please). Hope this helps out some and thanks to all that make this work. Because of the hours I have to out in this time of year it can make you dislike Christmas. This helps me with things to look forward to. So here's to a happy, healthy, and safe merry Christmas!!!

I feel especially obligated this year since I've been wrapped up in other hobbies, work and projects and have not really posted much at all in 2017. I enjoy the local things unique to places I visit in my work travels in the US and around the world. I'm sure anything unique to where you live would be great to receive.

Hobbies are motorcycles (HD street glide), billiards and cooking. I enjoy unique food and all forms of alcohol. I try to resist being a collector of anything to avoid the slippery slope to hoarding but do have a fair amount of early vintage Craftsman tools, firearms and and pre-WWII Lionel train related things. I am in the final stage of finish my basement with pool, theatre and bar area so lots of bare walls and empty glassware cabinets...I do like vintage advertising of any kind.

But this is about our garages and tools....I am pretty well equipped for anything I have any business doing to my cars, house and misc. equipment but have at times wished I had a really big adjustable wrench or small files. I do occasionally crudely restore small vintage tool cases/boxes to keep my roller box's drawers organized.

In general I'll be pleased with anything really and wouldn't miss this event even in the years like this one where I've been on the forum much less than other years. That includes tools of any kind. With a garage, a basement workshop, a half dozen vehicles and ashed, duplicates of any hand tool will find a home and be put to use.
