Good deal. Wish it included the welder cabinet. I have no need for the hooks.

this same set is offered at garageappeal.com at $199 everyday price. That site is also no sales tax and free shipping after a certain amount but I cannot remember when that kicks in.

that 24" cabinet is welded together, not RTA, but it is not the 30" one that you might be thinking about.

Good catch - you are correct. I picked up my 30" welded cabinets for $85 from sears last week but that's a whole different conversation...

yup.. i picked up 5 of those 30" ones last year during a sale for about the same price as well. they have held up really well and some of them are pretty heavily loaded. I think the 24" ones would be just as nice, albeit smaller, but if you're running it above a 48" wide workbench, 2x 24" might be a better fit than using the 30" ones...

I need some garage storage, shelving etc. Is the Gladiator stuff worth the money? It seems pretty expensive when not on sale, and not necessarily a screaming buy when it is on sale.

I noticed a few months ago when I was in Sears that they had some Gladiator stacked shelving that looked virtually identical to some Edsal shelving carried by Lowe's and Home Depot.

Here is a link to the Edsal product at Lowes.

I'm not sure that link is working. The shelving is item number 319477 at Lowes. The brand is Edsal, and this particular shelving appears to be very heavy duty. The only thing that doesn't really appeal to me is the wire mesh shelving, but you could always overlay with plywood or something.

I have a lot of gladiator stuff, so I'll share the opinion as someone who has gone down the Gladiator path. I never bought any of the Gladiator stuff at retail or non-sale price. There are frequent enough sales, I always bought during sales; mostly at Sears, but also some online outfits.

The Gladiator cabinets I got are the fully welded ones, not the RTA (bolted together) and at the sale price. I think they are totally worth the money (sale price). I consider them pretty high quality products and have held up really well for over a year now. If you're interested in the cabinets I would recommend them without hesitation.

The wall storage things like hooks, parts bins, shelves, etc. are also very good. However, buying them individually is expensive. What I do is wait for a sale on the "starter kits" or some "combo kit" that includes a lot of the different hooks, bins, shelves... this makes them affordable. They are pretty heavy duty and well made. I hang some pretty heavy tools on some of these hooks and have total confidence in using them. I have some stuff weighing over 100+ lbs on some of the shelves and that's never been a problem. I recommend this stuff without hesitation.

The tool storage stuff is very expensive, but occasionally on sale. even so, they will never beat the value of say the stuff at HFT. That said, they are of pretty decent quality, welded construction, ball bearing sliders, heavy duty casters, etc. If you're very budget conscious, you'd probably find your tool storage somewhere else. If you don't mind spending a little more (they certainly aren't truck brand prices) and really want them to match the rest of your gladiator stuff, then I don't think you'd have regrets getting them.

The rack/industrial shelving that you linked to... that is one thing I would NOT get from Gladiator. There are simply too many other options that are either cheaper or better built. If you have a Costco near by, they sell something very similar made by Whalen that is very well priced. Or, see if any of your local stores sell the GorillaRack brand of shelving, especially the models with the concealed rails where you can't see the holes. I think Sam's club may also have something similar as well.

The Gladiator flooring tiles... are basically made by SnapLock, known for making the RaceDeck stuff. Other than the design pattern, Gladiator flooring is the same as the RaceDeck product with some fire retardant added to the material. It is usually a little more expensive than RaceDeck, but when on sale I was able to get them for close to $2/sq-ft. The flooring is something I would not have gotten had I not found the sale; I was originally going to get RaceDeck, but since these were the same (or some might say better) and came out cheaper I went with Gladiator flooring.

Hope that helps anyone who's considering Gladiator stuff...

If you are getting shelving for a garage, I personally wouldn't recommend the wire mesh shelves or particle board shelves from the home improvement stores. I would spend the extra money and get ones with solid steel shelves. Those are usually special order from the home improvement stores. They usually only stock the cheaper mesh or particle board shelves, due to the cheaper price. The better quality ones are special order.

Thank you for the great info bimmer.

The thing I like about the Edsal shelving is the capacity. I believe those shelves are rated at 2000 lbs per shelf. I believe the Gladiator shelving has the same rating. I'm not a big fan of the wire mesh either, but you could always overlay with some plywood etc.

Using Ebates.com, I bought the large rolling cabinets for $230 and 30" cabinets for $90 each last year. I looked at all kinds. Lowes, Home Depot, Costco, BJs, and online. There are some for less but the welded Gladitator stuff would be a lifetime investment and last. I felt I made a good choice. The only thing I wish is that the rolling cabinets were 12" taller. But overall excellent quality and they are actually made in the US believe it or not.

Here's my take on the gladiator line:

24" & 30" welded cabinets - I agree with the other posters, good stuff, built to last. Ensure you wait for the sears 50% sales. since the retail went up to $240, the best you'll likely do now is $120-coupons, sywr, etc

Steel shelving unit - just picked this up. Seems pretty solid, looks to be identical to the husky unit at HD, right down to how the shelves attach to the uprights (not rivets btw). The wire mesh is ok, but I make replace it with 1/4" plywood on a few of the shelves to provide a smooth surface. I plan to store many of my benchtop tools that i use sparingly. Not worth $300 IMO, but not terrible if you wait for the 30% sale, then stack SYWR coupons on top (I used a points match one and got another $100 off). If you can get it in the 100-150 range, i'd go for it.

Workbenches - very solid, maple, and again overpriced. hit searsoutlet and track them down near you, esp when they change lines from model year.

Track - wait for the sears b1g1 sales and stack whatever coupons/rewards you can use. i used the HD husky screws to hang mine

RTA cabinets - I bought some of the 48" ones and they can't hold squat. I bought a stronghold off CL and it's a beast. Gladiator standing cabinets are best used for lightweight stuff like small power tools, car waxes, etc. stay away from the RTA line unless you're picking it up dirt cheap.

Hooks - go for the J&L hooks, and a variety of the bigger hooks for hoses, and big stuff you'd like to hang. I bought a variety of each and tend to gravitate towards these.

Does the Gladiator shelving come with 3 or 4 shelves? I can't remember from my lone Sears encounter. I know I've seen the Husky shelving in Home Depot and it had 4. They also had Edsal branded shelving in the same spot in the store, but I'm not sure it was on display, or if there was any difference. The Edsal shelving at Lowe's has 3 shelves, but looks identical to the Husky with the exception of the extra shelf and maybe the color. I think all of this stuff is Edsal, but I could be wrong.

Edsal HD shelving is good stuff. We've got a few of these at our workshop and routinely pile it high with heavy equipment for the race cars and random stuff(trays of sodas, fluids, etc). They take the abuse and for the money can't be beat.
