I'm putting more insulation in the walls, but if Im asleep then Im not making noise. Got my 12000# ben pearson 2 post left in yesterday and my air compressor was shipped today now if I just had power to the building. The power company wants to see the residence before they will hook it up and not charge me commercial hook up rates.

Wow, seriously impressive my friend! You've got me beat by a bit, I'm 29, and just starting with my own garage (and it's a hell of alot smaller!). I'd give my left nut to be able to setup and shop like that.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Lookin great so far.

But that steel beam doesn't look any where deep enough for that span AND living space above. Was it engineered, or size pulled from a chart?

12" 26# I-beam. 35' span, going to cable it to the truss above, and if need be can put a post on the bottom. but it seams fine like it is. The building builder said it would work and he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once. LOL so we will see.

Well, be very cautious.
A W12x26 is no where near adequate for 35' span with any kind of dead loads above. Not sure who approved that, they should be :shoot5:.
A column at midspan will definitely help, but if there's no footing, well.....

Power company finally came and hooked me up late last week. I was getting sick and tired of running off a generator. Yesterday I got the siding up on the outside of the apartment, today I plan on pulling wires for the apartment and doing a little insulation work to try and get ready for the drywallers.

Got my compressor wired in and partially plumbed up. This thing is super quiet compared to our "sam's club special" setting in our other shop. We actually moved that one on the other side of a partician to try to quiet it down a touch, but I dont think this one is even loud enough to worry about.

Looks great, you will never regret having a lot of space. Is that your Dad helping you, that's really great to see. Enjoy all of the time you get to spend with him, it goes by fast.
Good Luck, Dave

Looks great. You should put a window in your cave to overlook the grand domain.
Nice Chevy trucks, have you ordered stuff from H&H Classics, they are in your neck of the woods.

wow! sorry guys!! Let me get some pics up here in a few days. Finally got some paying jobs coming through the place and its been pretty hectic lately. Got my pluming done, wires ran, insuation up, drywall up and am in the process of painting the apartment right now. the garage is painted, but still needs a black and white checkerboard floor and a mural of Mel's Diner from American Graffitti painted on the wall. Lights are going in and outlets wired up. getting tools stocked in the shop (slowly, need to build benches) and getting it to where i can actually work now. I'll get pics asap!!

Will you continue to commute to your job or will your jobs be coming to you?

Next time I run up to Springfield in my roadster I will take the southern route through Harrison and stop by for a look see.

I will keep my day job. I don't want to get burnt out on this kind of stuff. I will however do some moonlightin'. Most recently I've sandblasted/refinished a flatbed on a late model Dodge and have gotten into servicing semi trucks. seems to be pretty good money in that!

If your ever in the harrison area look me up! We'll hang out for a while.

woah, aint been on here in forever. Sorry guys!! "finished" the apartment last year. The shop has seen its fair share of vehicles already, concrete is covered in oil (as i believe it should be lol)
Tools are strewn about the place and odds and ends that will never be used again have began to pile up against the wall under the work benches.
