nice looking lathe, mill and gantry!!

don't forget to put some flowers or plants in front of the house or other stuff your bride wants to keep her smiling while you get your dream garage. just saying it's nice to have your bride on board while you are building.

cheers

Built a 12x12 shed behind the house to get some stuff out of the garage. This was awesome as far as space in the garage goes:

Built a much larger 5hp 3phase compressor and stuck it behind the garage on a poured concrete pad. The bolts are welded to a rebar square that's cast in the poured concrete:

Improved the shop with one of those langmuir systems CNC plasma cutters, and added a HF refrigerated compressed air drier as well:

ACtC-3cY-I8P1KBfx7u1MzO_jV0oDIjrOnve7MB2-mqlLeMJceXH22XL5Qe_ISBP_WKIX86fNFHCcqT7AlG5Ym2WF1ybv_4xVCGtLZdg8oi9sgTYpcYHc6vL44p2qu_8B6fGUZ5wdcy4zROVfKIG5N9x4kDCSw=w2519-h1890-no

Eventually added a muffler + silencer to the already pretty quiet compressor, but now it's damn near dead silent:
ACtC-3c0jf3m_fU_I0vIKURP5rPxfwER1Vi6jQdQSoVRahp23Fs4pxNWicEcuF4wUKGV9932LNTNPLyOD5CPNeX8K837AtvnM4aqPM2MZeXofR19L3ceZioJ9H-E4qAHTxLHrwTqdrSGgvS8aJ2wAQo1_vwAMQ=w2519-h1890-no

Removed the concrete work pad that has been next to the garage for ~6 years. Needed to fix some drainage issues caused by it, because the elevation of the pad was too high. We'll see if I can get to the trench drain/concrete additions this year, or if it'll have to wait another year:

your shed looks amazing!!

just curious since i've mixed and poured more than a few 80 pounds bags of concrete how did you get the bolts to line up for your compressor? did you make a pattern out of cardboard and set it on the bolts as the cement was curing or do tell?

good to see you've been making quite a bit of progress. it also looks like you've cleared out a space for the new garage expansion if you even need one now.

I always want more garage space. I'd really like to expand it large enough to put my new-to-me enclosed trailer inside.

For the bolts, I welded together a rebar square, and welded bolts to the rebar, using the compressor tank (flipped upside down) as a pattern. This meant that the bolts are always the correct pattern, and the only concern when pouring was sinking the rebar square down into the concrete far enough. Seemed way easier to do it that way than to mess with cardboard patterns and j-bolts.

great idea and glad it worked.

that's another reason I need to get my welder and a new face mask and start sharpening my skills so it's a go to instead of a that would be nice.

keep up the great progress and don't make yourself a stranger even if nothing is going on in your garage post on my thread or others that need your thoughts.

cheers!!

Another few years, another update. Had an engineer draw up plans to modify my 30' free span fink trusses into rafters to raise my ceiling height, so that I can hopefully install a lift later this year. Started and finished this project within a week or so.

2x10 rafters with doubled up 2x6 collar ties. 2x structural screws 12" on center along the 2x10s into the original top chord of the truss, and 1/2" bolts through the whole sandwich at the collar tie intersections.

That came out pretty good. Gives a lot more head space. Did you do all the work yourself?

Thanks, and yes. Only took me a couple of days (over the course of a week) to get everything in and done. A crew of 2-4 guys who knew what they were doing could get this done in a single day easily.
