I am replacing a 1975 Black&Decker 3/8” corded drill because the switch is worn out. This old drill has an aluminum housing and is variable speed and reversing.

So far the DeWalt DW222 is the closest thing I have found to my old drill but the DW222 is all plastic and I just do not trust plastic gear housings. The DW223G has the aluminum gear housing but I do not need the long color for the T handle attachment.

Tools from different manufacturers have different features that may or may not be of use to you.
Just like SO versus HF, like Ford versus Chevy, like Maytag versus Kenmore.......
I personally, when it comes to power tools both corded amd cordless, am a Milwaukee man.

I'd find a Milwaukee, we had Dewalts at work that were total garbage recently.

The cheap Hitachi corded drills at Lowe's are garbage. The chucks are total junk.

I bought this one earlier this year. Probably the best I have ever used, period. I have used ever brand from ever era back to the '40s. This one beeats the vintage aluminum craftsman my dad had when I was growing up and the new Makita we have at the shop.

I've got/had, newer Skil (****), Makita 90 (not bad), plastic DeWalt (****), older plastic/steel Craftsman (Bulky), B&D professional (excellent), AEG (not bad) and 8 - 15 year old Milwaukee (excellent). I'd look for a nice used Milwaukee (US made), used B&D professional, occasionally I find real nice hardly used power tools at estate sales. If new Bosch, Makita, etc. I had a DeWalt (may still have it or threw it out) and the thing got real sloppy after a bit of use, not good for accurate hole. I would definitely go with double insulated, those old all metal tools can be dangerous.
