Looking for something a little different. Most guys here have a bright or industrial color scheme going on. I am looking for something a little warmer. Looking for a three color idea. I want white for the top but a stripe and a lower color to break up the white. Any ideas or opinions?

Well I am kind of thinking of doing a yellow lower with a brown stripe. Maybe some pics of my garage may help. I have been building and staining all the shelves and work benches and door trim a cherry color.

I used a semi-gloss white for the ceiling, to get all the reflection I can from the lights, then a semi-gloss white for the upper portion of my walls, then a 10" wide stripe midway down the wall in semi-gloss white, above semi-gloss white lower walls.

So far, it has worked out well, since I only have to keep one can of paint around for touch-ups, and most of my walls are covered with shelving, racking, cabinets, workbenches or machinery, so you couldn't see any stripes or colors on the lower walls anyway.

I like the color combo Steevo. . .all the contrast must look great!

That combo is my plan as well. Semi-gloss white on semi-gloss white with a semi-gloss white stripe.

Just want it bright. 1.6 watts/sq ft for lighting, all white.

That's more or less what I wanted, something I could work in but still have a finished look. The "stripe" between the lower paneling and center pegboard is colonial casing, same as door and window trim. The area between the floor and paneling is the concrete stem wall painted same color as trim. Here's a few more views.

Steevo's paint scheme is nice...Its something I've been thinking about myself...and for the sole purpose of hiding dirt & grime, I think I will go with the same Semi-Gloss white for the ceiling, then the walls a light tan/beige color.

Thanks for the compliment, Iroc-Z. Color is kind of tricky -- because we're men, and men think there are like 8 colors in the world. The problem, of course, is that there are like 80 versions of each of those colors, so if I say 'blue and tan and yellow' in a thread like this, it could mean a lot of different things.

I picked my green pretty quickly, and the original version of my garage also had a yellow and a red in it. My final color choice really came down to painting over the colors I'd chosen poorly. And even then, the particular green I have was largely a stab in the dark.

But you can find pallette collections out there (I know this because I just Googled it), and it will point to some ideas that a man would never have if they just think 'red' 'blue' or 'green' in their head.

Here are some images to show what I mean:

And here's a pinterest page that might help, too:

I kind of wish I'd looked at this sort of thing when I got started. But I didn't know it existed.

My advice would be to pick any three, but to make sure that one was a tan or a gray (a neutral color). And then have 60% of the room be the neutral, 30% be one of the colors and 10% the other color -- or something close to that. 'Dominant, subdominant and accent,' is I think how it goes.

This is my exact color scheme and decor, except mine is in high gloss, rolled on with a thick nap roller to give is a slight stipple look...

Steevo, can I ask what brand of masking tape you used. I could see some serious bleed if you weren't careful.

Iroc,

I decided to go with some earth-tones for my garage. I love the primary colors that others have used, but I wanted my shop toned down a little. It all started with my RaceDeck floor tiles when I wanted the typical black and white checker board pattern. My Minister of Finance was not fond of that scheme and I ended up choosing tan and black tiles. After many designs, I came up with a unique pattern that finally achieved funding. I chose tan since our house is two-tone tan with stone veneer on the front and our garage door is always open when I am working out there. The garage walls just fell in place using the same colors as the outside of our house.

Here is a progress shot as I still have to finish painting the sliding doors on the cabinet. The band is 4-1/2" wide to align with the light switch cover plates in the far corner.

Here's mine. Semi gloss white on ceiling and upper part of wall, flat black and Petty Blue. The stripe is a scaled up version of the stripe on a 72 Cuda.

I've been contemplating this exact same question for my garage. What I decided to do was work with colors of the paint chips in my expoxy floor coating. I used Quikrete's Tan 2-part floor expoxy with the Tan paint chips. My base wall color is going to be the light "off-white" or "antique-white" to match the lightest colored paint chip, with a charcoal grey or dark brown 10" wide stripe about 1/3 of the way up from the floor to match the darkest color in the paint chips, and then a bright red pinstripe at the top and bottom of the charcoal stripe for an accent color. Hopefully, this will look good with my Gladiator cabinets and tie in with my Craftsman tool box set. I will hopefully get it done in a few weeks and will put some pictures up then.

Anyways, consider the colors of the tools, equipment, floor or other stuff that will be in your garage for inspiration on what paint colors to choose.

Wingnut,

The bottom of your wall looks to be the same color that the entire inside of my garage is painted with now. After looking at yours, I might just leave the lower portion of my walls alone and just paint the top like yours. Is that stripe black or more of a charcoal grey? Also, since you can see your whole garage in the daylight, do you think a red pinstripe above and below that dark stripe would look good with that color scheme or would it just be too much?

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin, the black is Krylon's Gloss Black spray paint. It dries in 10 minutes and makes progress pretty quick. The colors are from Sherwin Williams, but I don't recall the exact names. I'll post them tomorrow.

I am considering accent stripes, but not sure of a color or width yet. It may take some samples to make a decision.

Sort of a sawdust tan/off white upper....then a milled cap rail......over ****** green lower,here.

The cap rail is a cpl inches wide and has been perfect for laying any wrench or Allen that is needed for the machine parked in that spot.

You can also use the cap rail as the divider, say if theres pegboard above and some other material below. Also works if theres SR above a plywood lower. Its just a little more professional than trying to **** differing materials.Paying attention to its height.Trying to keep it at the same level as workbenches, gives "stops" on dead ends.

That looks sharp with the blue and black.

Do you leave any marks on the flat black if you rub against it or anything brushes against it. I know that some flat black will show marks.

I tried to avoid an industrial look by coordinating my colors with my floor tiles. The top is a cream color, and the bottom a slate blue.

Nice colors and Very Nice Rides !

But, how did you get the tire pattern on the wall? Inking a tire and rolling it up the wall??? :shocking: That really looks cool!

Thanks!

Actually can't do that since you can't get the tire to lay flat. Tires have a curve to them. I ended up putting paint on the tire, then putting paper on the tire, then putting paper on wall to transfer the tread. It was not easy.

This is what it looks like now, can you guess the car?
