Can you explain in detail the difference between the Klein 1005 and 1006. I dont undertand non-insulated and insulated.

1005 crimps both insulated and uninsulated terminals. 1006 only crimps uninsulated. You don't use crimpers with a "tooth"'on insulated terminals because it pierces the insulation.

EDIT. I didn't read far enough again. I am redundant...

Not my picture, but I have this set as well and it works great and was less than 100$.

Nice setup. Though I've had little luck with a full-cycle ratcheting crimper on standard insulated or non-insulated barrel connectors. They seem to under-crimp for me , and good connectors (2-piece or brazed seam) tend to do better with a little over-crimping, while cheap connectors like you find at HF just plain ****, no matter what.

The exception to this is on high temperature connectors. They're made from nickel plated steel, and are used a lot in appliances. If I were crimping a bunch of those, I'd probably have a full cycle crimper like this (actually I've got a number of Ideal Crimpmasters, but just don't have this style die set).

BUT, on the open barrel connectors that need to be closed into a pumpkin shaped cross-section, a ratcheting full-cycle style of crimper is the only way to go. Those sort of crimps are VERY sensitive to both over and under crimping, and I don't dare crimp them without the proper tool. Instead, I'll form them into a decent shape and finish with a touch of solder (enough to hold the joint, but not enough to wick far into the wire).

I have a set of Greenlee ratching crimpers, best crimpers I have ever used. I've since tried a few other brands, and so far they have all fell short in comparison. I have a set of dies for insulated, and a set for non insulated connectors.

This picture was when I first got them, I just grabbed the first scrap wire I had to test. I could not pull the connector off the wire, even with tools.

And here it is with both sets of dies.

And a crimp on a non insulated connector

I have a set of the klines, and other similar designs, but I never felt confident in my crimps when using that style.
