not exzactly true , they are made in CZ , still EU but not Germany of today .

I had to run down and check, and I stand corrected. These are made in Czech Republic. "German engineered"....lol

Seems like some nice stuff is coming out of the Czech Republic these days.

I have a Tekton set plus several other different drivers, not complete sets. The Tekton are made in USA so that gets me started. Haven't had them long so no problems yet. I do like the handles. They give a good grip. Home Depot or Amazon.

I'm not a Wrencher, I'm an AV guy and I love the Klein screwdrivers, especially the 11 in 1

I keep a couple of the 11-in-1's handy in my work kit, but I'd hate to use them for auto repair. Too short, too bulky.

My garage/shop screwdrivers are Craftsman Pro (red and black rubberized handles) and some of the newer GearWrench stuff (red and black rubberized handles).

If/when one of the Craftsman Pro's fail, I'll likely look to replace it with the identical blue/black Armstrong or green/black SK, assuming they're still in production (and assuming I can't find NOS Craftsman Pro).

if you can let me know how they compare to craftsman screwdrivers.

please let me know how they are when you get them.

I sure will but all I can compare them to is my mismatched set of hand me down Stanley's, Popular Mechanics and no names.
If a tool company is not owned by Stanley it is owned by Apex with precious few exceptions.

Ain't the the truth. If you can buy it in a store today, very little chance it's not one of those two.
I guess I have to be "that guy" in this thread.

Please try the search function for this. There are literally probably over a thousand threads (not posts, threads) on this extremely common topic of screwdrivers. And yes, almost weekly, so you will not be getting outdated information either.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/search.php?searchid=31850919

Please use this search function.
Based on the responses in 13 hours I'd say either the topic is not exhausted yet, or people simply enjoy talking about screwdrivers. Would you suggest we have no more threads about ratchets, impacts or sockets?

If you are getting into tools either as a hobby or professionally you are NOT going to need to look for ways to spend money, plenty of situations will be coming along where the only option is to spend a serious amount of money.

Chances are extremely good that one brand of screwdriver vs another will not be a factor in your success on any job in the near future. Use the right size and type to fit the fastener and make sure the tip is fully inserted before applying torque. Repair or replace any driver that is worn, wear is what makes them torque out and slip.

This is so true. Invest your money in torx, hex, and other modern fasteners.

Finding ph2 or 1/4 slotted on critical/high-grade machine hardware is a good excuse to go the the store and buy new bolts.

For the few occasions like electronics, and maybe some around the house stuff, buy either german or suisse brands for $30-50 dollars.

They are better than the any USA tips (they have DIN/JIS geometry), with the notable exception of Apex/Zephyr bitsets.

If you need something to abuse, buy some cman pro prybars ($29 on sale this week).

:D

Ive always had Klein but recently picked up some PB Swiss screwdrivers and absolutley love them, especially for the price. Probably one of the most cofortable handles around. I use Knipex and NWS (at work) which are great but not really a fan of either handles.

It is not a new field for them. Weaponry out of the Skoda works has been famous for generations.

High end screwdrivers are like sneakers...... Ask the question and you get 100 different answers because everybody has their favorite.

BTW! I have a WIHA set and love them...... I also have a set of the VESSEL JIS screwdrivers for working on my Japanese vehicles.
I just purchased a 6 piece set of WERA laser tipped (green handle) screwdrivers from Sears for $21 when they were on sale a few weeks ago (used points for the discount) and they seem like well made tools...... Have not really used them yet so I can't rate them.

But really, but 1 ph2 of several brands you are interested in and see what works. The rest you could easily give to buddies. Amazon pretty much has all the top euro brands so you can save on shipping. KC tool is another option. You'll be out an extra 20 but it's fun to try them out and get what's right for you.

Wera kraftform with laser tips are awesome. I have a set of Beta and Facom, but the Wera grip feels better in hand

LOL, looks like post #7 has come to fruition...

Here's my take in a bit more detail;

For slotted I prefer hollow ground cabinet tip, they just fit the fastener better IMO. There are several manufacturers that specialize in this, many for the gun smithing world, that include PB Swiss, Grace & Forster. I'm sure there are others...

For Phillips, I look for something that is JIS compatible, mainly because I work a lot on old Japanese motorcycles. I like Vessel and Wiha but there are plenty of others out there. Look for modern PH screwdrivers that meet DIN 5260 standard.

In addition, if you want your tips to last, consider investing in a hand impact driver. Really saves your "good screwdriver" tips if your not beating them to death on a stuck fastener.

And remember, screwdrivers will wear out eventually, I consider them pretty much consumables. That said, I have many that are over a decade old still going strong...

I have some old, hard plastic Stanleys, a couple of cheap 6-in-1's, and some Klein knock-offs with the rubber grip handles (think: electrician's tools).

My favorite, by far, that I use 99% of the time is a Klein 10-in-1. I could probably get rid of all my others except for the huge flat blade I have that is used as a pry bar more often than not.

I picked this 16 pc set up for like $50 from crip dist during a black friday special, made for NAPA by Witte in Germany, an upgrade from my old worn craftsman screw drivers, an old GJ thread here these can also be found on ebay too but @ $70 for the set here . YMMV

i just went to amazon and looked up a wright set of screwdrivers to get the reference point for cost... 100 maybe a little much but then again

i found this for 100

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002C2BPZI/?tag=atomicindus08-20

now for a snap on set comparable is 170

https://store.snapon.com/Instinct-1...-Combination-Red-Screwdriver-Set-P645285.aspx

maybe 100 is not really all that much, i dont need craftsman, kobalt, husky quality as i own all of those brands and i want something that dose not start to round when tightening.

I bought that same Snap On set off the truck on sale for $105 - By far the best set of screwdrivers I've ever owned but if I was to do it again, I'd probably buy just the Phillips. That's where I see a huge difference...

Not if they are a previously posted topic.

Continue the conversation on an existing thread if you have something new to add or a new question. As one of the first posts mentions, you will get every name under the sun in these threads... no need to re-post every name under the sun every week.

I like the Williams Hard handle ones. Recently saw an 8 pc set for $57.50. They have bigger sets too.

Great screwdrivers for the money.

I ordered an 8 pc set of Williams black hard handles for about that same price a long while back and filled in with singles as I saw the need. These are for general work, I have Kleins for electric work plus a couple of MasterMechanics (Pratt & Reed) that I don't really use. Good to see that the Williams prices haven't skyrocketed. I was initially not pleased with the different sizes for the Williams handles, but now I'm used to big handles for high torque and small handles for low torque.

I always prefer dedicated screwdrivers and usually recommend against multi-bit drivers (but I have some and just haven't tossed them yet). But, I have a Klein 5n1 which I use and an 11n1 which I don't use so much, and the Klein Switch Drive. The __n1's have internal "in-driver" blade storage which is far far better than the typical "on-board" multi-bit storage. The KSD lives in my Milwaukee bag with the impact driver so I can swap blades between them. I keep the 5n1 in my demo belt pouch and I keep dedicated Klein slotted and phillips in my electric belt pouch.

The hard handles on the Williams provides a confident grip and are easy to clean unlike all the others from overseas that come with a rubberized grip

so i went to lowes for another item all together but i remember just looking at your picture in the post so i went looking and found one basically hidden put side ways so no one on earth would see it for sale, i picked it up asked the cashier how many they have stock none in 50 miles so i took it as a sign from the tool gods to buy it.

I think you will like them I was pleasently surprised after i got mine and got them home for closer inspection. Love the feel of them fit well in your hand and seem to be well built. And I am usually not a kobalt fan till now.

I really like the German made Napa's produced by Whitte. They have a nice feel and seem to god up very well. I also like the SK cushion grip which used to be the red and black craftsman pros.
