Hi, I'm having a hard time chasing up a 1/4" drive socket set that comes with sockets and extensions only? I'm having a hard time finding one that doesn't come with a ratchet. Under $200 would be good.imperial and metric

I'd check out SK. They have standard, mid-depth, deepwell, and swivel, all but mid-depth in impact as well. All good quality.

The reason you can't find a "value' socket set with extensions, universal ONLY because it simply doesn't exist, they all come with a drive tool for obvious reasons. Think about it.
Infact In my book, any 1/4" SET without a spinner handle is a FAIL!

BTW check price of 1/4" mechanic sets on sale, you are getting the ratchet for pretty much free so why fight it? target ~$1.00/piece! I like to find metric sets only they are more compact-n-portable , rarely need SAE for the same tasks.

Well, you can find impact socket sets with just sockets and extensions all day long. Here's one from Gearwrench. http://www.tooldiscounter.com/ItemD...k_tdJjB92J-KfRpuTJLZ6RTUkpGjPdN95UaAqKz8P8HAQ

I probably use my 1/4" drive sockets more than the average person. Certainly way more often than my 1/2" drive set. That said after almost 50 years, I have never owned or NEEDED 1/4" drive deep sockets ! When I did need a deep socket, I always had a 3/8" drive deep to fall back on.

Craftsman has a 1/4" set in a blow molded case that does NOT include deep sockets. It does have a ratchet and one extension. On sale it typically runs about $10-$12. Of course, the current one are made in China so I can not vouch for their quality, but mine are holding up great.

DO NOT WASTER YOUR MONEY ON 12 POINT 1/4" DRIVE SOCKETS ! Guaranteed to round off any mild stuck nut !

you can also buy the socket sets and extentions separately if that's what you want.

good value: Lowes Kobalt. $10 for a set of sockets. they may not be US made, but for low torque 1/4" drive any properly sized/broached set with a quality finish would work.

other option is to buy a set with the ratchet and just send me the ratchet...problem solved...

At the $200 price point my vote is for Williams USA stuff. Super quality for a reasonable price. I can't tell the difference between my Snap-On and Williams sockets.

They are currently backordered but it has been my experience that this is only temporary and Toolsdelivered is great to work with.

Cheers,

Find sockets separate. I have the set I linked, its very complete and I use it more than my 3/8 impact set

I'm partial to the S-K sets with the spinner handle. Preferably the old sets in the metal case.
Check the used market for deals.

Yup, I've got one and use it occasionally. Now that I own the M12 fuel 1/4 impact wrench, it doesn't get near the use. They are very handy though.

I bought the 48 pc SK set 2years ago, beautiful has everything you would ever need like thumbwheel rachet that I thought was a joke until I used it several times

+ 1 for SK- for $10 Less you can get the same set with 4 extra pieces;

Excellent set. I purchased mine about a year ago and being able to carry it out to what I'm working on is ideal. And that's the cheapest I have seen it.

Their thumbwheel ratchets are very handy, especially the 3/8's.

I think you'll be happy with the gearwrench set. I purchased a couple different size sets from Advance Auto and they've quickly become my go to sockets.

The idea behind the impact set is you are buying them to put on your impact or air ratchets. Everybody knows you never put an impact socket on a regular ratchet.

There are lots of 1/4 drive tools that show up on ebay with mangled square drives. So i think the folks saying 1/4 impacts are "worthless" are overlooking this point.

Always considered this to be THE classic 1/4" set
