Finally the Hot Dawg is installed. Nice and toasty. Now I can start working on the rest of the garage project.

Nice! How big of a unit did you go with and how large of a volume are you heating? What type of insulation?

Only reason I'm not going with forced air heat is due to dust being moved around the shop.

I have a Hot Dawg 60K unit and I really like it. Heats up the garage quickly (we leave it at 50 degrees) when we want to go out there and work and doesn't make a whole lot of noise. You can have a normal conversation with it running, listen to the radio, even talk on the portable telephone if you want.

Never considered noise, have to keep that in mind if I every switch to gas instead of spending so much time chopping wood, making kindling, cleaning chimney...

The only complaint I have with noise is the harmonic vibration through the floor above into our bedroom. The noise in the garage is acceptable at about 54dB @ 10'. Fans are loud by design. in the bedroom above I get about 45 dB which isn't overly loud however at 2 am it is.

I have ordered 4 MASON Hanger Mount Vibration Isolator,s from Grainger this morning. https://www.grainger.com/product/MASON-Hanger-Mount-Vibration-Isolator-2LVR8

I think these should do the trick. It is my opinion that the contractor should have installed these since I did bring up my concerns about vibration when I purchased. I will get them to give me another discount and do it myself.

Based on other posters regarding the same noise issue, those should do the trick.

Portable telephone? What is this magic you speak of?

Well I have heat but I am fast discovering that it is not right.

By that I mean a piss poor install. No isolation dampers, wrong sealants, wrong vent pipe, not installed per the manufacturer specs, didn't perform a proper start up.

I have been texting my sales rep (I haven't paid them yet). He is coming out Monday. I told him to bring help.

I now just looked And they should have flipped the unit over to have a straight shot out of the wall. Pics coming in a sec.

I texted my sales guy this morning about my ever growing list of concerns. He actually came by this morning and reviewed with me. They are reinstalling the unit tomorrow including flipping the unit 180 so the venting is a straight shot and not the jumbled mess of elbows that it is currently, Raising it 1-1/2" to meet the 1/4" fall away from the unit, adding the vibration dampers, all category III venting and appropriate sealants. He is also confirming that the permits were pulled and will request an inspection when the they are done.

I thought a video would be better. I will post another after the contractor re-installs it tomorrow.

Can you comment on the cost of the install? Did they also run the gas pipe up the wall for you? Just trying to get a reference point to compare to the quotes I have received ($3,000 for unit, install and gas line; I have gas terminated at the outside of my building. Just need to bring through the wall and up to where the unit will hang).

I had a gas line in the basement that was 5' inside of the garage wall, so similar to yours. I had quotes ranging from $2600 - $3400. I will have a bit lower bill since their first mistake was ordering the wrong vent kit, then a somewhat botched install, then the redo on the install.

The contract was for $2898 and that was for the Modine HDS45, some 20 ft of Black gas pipe, Concentric wall vent kit, Labor etc.
