The other day I bought 2 Gray ratchets off of Kijiji. For $40 I got a 1/2" ratchet, a 3/8" ratchet, a 3/8" extension and a rebuild kit for the 1/2". Everything was in decent condition but I decided to disassemble the ratchets to inspect them for wear and relube them.
After taking everything apart, I cleaned up the parts using brake clean and then some WD40. All parts were in good condition. So other than some rusty screws I replaced and the lever and screw which were missing from the 1/2", I didn't need any other parts from the rebuild kit. I then lubed the teeth with 30 motor oil and lubricated the rest of the moving part's surface with Lucas grease. I then ressembled everything. I used red Loctite on the lever screws as these have a habit of loosening off which usually results in the lever falling off and getting lost! Overall it was a fairly easy job, the worst part was getting the "clickers" back in while not knocking out the spring loaded ball, especially on the 3/8" which because of it's size is harder to work on. Here are some pics I took...
