Good adjustables!

Hey PowerGenGuy,

What's the current COO of the adjustables? I keep forgetting to ask Gray when I call them.

I think it's Spain, but not sure. I don't own any current models so I don't know for sure. Do they say on the other side?

I notice if Gray's stuff isn't made in Canada, USA or Germany, they don't have COO on them.

Can you neighbors to the North recommend any Gray Tools distributors in the vicinity of Niagara Falls, St Catherines, Welland ? Hamilton/Burlington would be no problem also.

I really need to talk to US Customs though to see what it takes to get them across the border what with Duty and such.

Thanks in advance

Thought I'd revive this thread to let you know that, generally speaking, so long as the tools you buy up there are MADE IN CANADA, you won't have to pay any duty under NAFTA. This will certainly be the case if the tools are made from raw materials sourced in Canada. I'm sure you could get something from the company that specifies whether this is the case. Where products are made in a NAFTA country from raw materials sourced elsewhere, they may still count as "NAFTA goods" if certain criteria are met. Don't ask me what those are.

I bought some Paradigm stereo speakers up there years ago - Made in Canada - and they let me through without having to pay any duty. They cost a few grand at the time, and I'm sure they had components sourced elsewhere. I can't see you having a problem with metal hand tools.

Also, speaking of Gray Tools, why is it that on their website they call Robertson screwdrivers "square"?

The adjustables must be rebadged, who made them for Gray I do not know. However they are good! My guess is that they are made in Taiwan, and are similar to the new carlisle adjustables if i am not mistaken! They do have a US Pat. stamped on them. They are similar in profile to SO at the jaws! My tool box on the road has the 10" and 12", and i use em daily and i like em. My 8" adjust. is SO and my 15" is Wright.

Good adjustables!

I don't believe Gray actually makes these...

I believe on a different thread it was implied the adjustable wrenches may be made by Proxene Tools Co. Ltd. http://www.proxene.com.tw/ or at least it looked like some wrenches Proxene offers.

West Pier Marine in Port Colborne (about 30 mins from Peace or Rainbow bridges) is a good supplier to deal with. Stock however is almost nil. I suggest you look up what you want online on Gray's site, then call West Pier with the part #'s. They'll put your order in with the next shipment. Usually your tools will arrive there in less than 2 weeks, sometimes only 4 or 5 days. I found that pricing between different Gray dealers is pretty close, so there is little point in shopping around or dickering.

Also, I do agree that buying Gray is a PITA. I only wish RONA or Cdn Tire would carry Gray. But realistically it'll probably never happen. SO I find to be even worse. Unlike Gray there are no dealer stores you can go to or no local factory (for warranties or service, Gray doesn't sell direct). SO trucks are often hard to come buy, especially when you work days and aren't in the automotive industry. I used to deal with a corporate dealer (truck) who went out of his way. He went to work for SO in another capacity, buddy that replaced him, won't send in my order (always excuses) when I email it to him. So now I guess I got to order online, with shipping fees and never being home to receive the shipment. :(
