Grease Gun Recommendations

After going through several cheap grease guns in the past few years, I’d like to buy a good quality grease gun that will last.

I’m planning to buy a full size, pistol grip type with flexible hose.

Does anyone know if any of these brands are better than others? Looked at Plews, lubrimatic and Lincoln so far.

I recently picked the M12 Milwaukee and it is fabulous. I've done my tractors and a few neighbors as well as a friends old sawmill that has been sitting for a long time. Great tool and easy to use.
I have the drills and impacts in the M12 all ready. The grease gun body was $99 from HD recently.

I have a lincoln lever action with no flex hose. It gets on 90* of fittings and its alot easier to use than a pistol style.

So the M18 version has a max pressure of 10,000 psi and the M12 only 8,000. I can not imagine anything that would need that extra 2,000 psi.

Dozer/excavator track ?

In my case, I already have the M18 Fuel 2767 1/2" impact gun. I want to stick with the M18 battery design. Didn't know about the psi pressure difference until you brought it up.

Another vote for lock n lube. I have their pistol grip gun. The coupler is genius. Love how it stores.

Ya M12 grease gun is very worthy for the money. I like mine a lot and I figure never be pumping a lever style grease gun again :D

The M18 powered tool has a few additional features (beside the 2 pressure settings one slightly higher, the other slightly lower than the 8000psi M12 unit.) The more expensive 2646 does have a 1 foot longer hose which is nice and a "counter" that you can set for number of pre determined number of "pumps" if that's something to be desired

Curious. Do all grease guns 'leak' after sitting for awhile?

I don't use mine all that often, but after sitting for a bit of time, they all seem to leak out of the plunger side. Basically leaking fluid with the consistency of oil...

Everything from a pneumatic Lincoln (which is a PITA to prime) to the cheapie Auto Zone versions...

Maybe I should use them more? :headscrat

I don't have a gun recommendation, but these are nice to have.

Warning.
I had an air powered grease gun blow up in my hand, they saved my hand but i have had 7 surgery's so far.
The first doc wanted to cut my hand off,the 2nd one said he thought he could save it,and he did.

I use a hand pump type grease gun these days.

Short answer yes.

I've tried about a dozen different once over the years both at home and the ones we've bought for our mechanics at work. Inexpensive or expensive they all leak, just some more than others as the lubricant separates from the carrier.

I have four grease guns that I have loaded with various greases and in my last shop I had hung them on a rod with absorbent pads under them to catch the oil as they leaked. In my current shop I placed them in a drawer on absorbent pads thinking it would be out of sight and "cleaner" appearing. However, what I have found is that they are much more messy when I use them because the oil doesn't actually drip out, it pools just under the cap near the plunger so when I pick them up to use them they drip everywhere I walk to then I have to go back and wipe the drips up. I think it is better to hang them and let them drip as that way they don't make a mess when you use them.

As soon as I have time I am going to make a PVC holder for each that will allow the lubricant to drip into the cap that I can then occasionally remove and clean. I just need to get some time to do so as I'm tired of wiping up drips around the shop.

Sorry to hear that. Glad to have your hand working again. I have always wondered about air or even battery powered guns it they would do that.

I've had pretty much the same experience as everyone here, with the inexpensive hand-operated GG's. A few months ago, tyler tool had a sale in DeWalt 20v grease gun, with battery, charger, case, and a bonus of a Dewalt 1/4 impact driver and battery, for $200.

I went for it. No leaks, has variable speed trigger, shoulder strap, 46" long 10,000 psi hose, and a pressure relief valve. So far, I am happy with it

I'd like to buy only one grease gun and my needs are minimal. My F-350 has two zerks in the front end universals. I'd like a recommendation of what will suffice.

Any advice helping me find reading matter will be appreciated. I can watch youtube but that isn't the best way for me to learn.

At my age it is easy to say this is my last pickup or this is my last refrigerator. Maybe it'll be true. Just be careful talking about your last pound of coffee.

At work we have a whole fleet of Milwaukee 18v grease guns. They are beat, rode hard and put up wet ( not literally wet) but yes they are better than any air powered gun I’ve used. Use them for typical chassis lube on road tractors, but also for use on track units that use grease pressure to set tension on the tracks.

Another vote for the Milwaukee M12 gun. Definitely worth the money.

X3

Makes short work of the daily greasing of equipment. I got 3 tubes out of a charge when I tested it just to see.

I now own 3, 2 at the airport with different greases, 1 at home. Most people who see it work go out and buy one (or the M18 if they are wedded to that system).

I bought the Dewalt 18v grease gun. Wish I had sprung for it ages ago. It punches through the gummiest grease and sticking grease fittings. Wish it had a locking nozzle.

About any of them will work for this. The farm store sells 2 types, get the better one. They are not much more than 20$.

I don't use my Lincoln a lot but it hasn't failed me in about 20 years.

I also built a grease gun holder out of PVC pipe to hold it "cleanly." I'd suggest folding up a blue paper towel and stuffing it in the bottom to catch all the oil drops.

Thanks. That is pretty much what I thought I'd do except I must substitute big box store for farm store.

Yes, a pistol grip with hose. My bud, a career mechanic in his own garage used 2 or 3 tube of grease in 3 decades. He rarely did lof and plenty of new cars don't have grease. His.grease.gun is still new. Big difference between 2 or 3 a day or even week.
I got 1 or 2 things use a little but 95% of it is a pump or 2.
I have a 91 F pickup, got a couple original steering ends on it. I put a couple pumps in between oil changes and it along with replacement u joints, ball joints which went south early have lasted the rest of the life of the truck.
I would have powered gun if I had more but for the dozen tube I use a year I am not messing with it. I tried simple air, more trouble than its worth and was offered air and bulk, just don't use it enough and would be another thing in the way.
I have a lot of stuff, for did a chassis wheel brg, works. I try to keep 4.guns, lever and pistol with sticky bear **** in it for pin and suspension and ones with red for bearings. I don't always follow that but I live on nasty roads and seems like the black moly hands in better for washout.
In a common.world would have 1 and get by with it.

I did think of pistol grip and flex hose since I'll be on a creeper.

My truck ('17 F-350) is stupid tall even with a standard suspension and standard tires & wheels. On my previous pickup ('11 F-250) I'd drive onto a pair of 2X8s in each corner for an oil change. Now I guess I'll have to actually work and put the front on stands.
