Grease gun storage solution

I have a dedicated "lube cart" for grease guns, LPS etc. it's convenient to roll it where your working at.

I kept piling my grease guns in the top and it made a giant mess.

I came up with this idea to keep all the grease gun ooze away from my guns as much as possible.

I took some scrap lumber and made a box that fits the top of the lube cart. The sides are 12 inches and that is deep enough for my grease guns to fit without bottoming out. I Added 3inch holes for the guns and 5/8 holes for the hoses.

I put a layer of pig mats to absorb the grease goo.

Only need to re label the top of the guns with the appropriate flavor of grease so it's easy to choose.

That is a brilliant idea. grease guns are messy, i see you dont have any hard tube just flex hoses. What kind of grease guns are those.

The grease guns are the $16.00 ones from zoro tools.

I run an aircraft repair shop and we do a lot of greasing with a lot of different types of greases.

I also remember one day that turned into a witch-hunt.

No maintenance happened all afternoon, except that finally the

Airman who went to lunch and then home for the afternoon

was finally located, er should I say the screwdriver tip in his

pocket was accounted for. (Whew !)

I just use an old metal 5 gallon pail, hang the guns and the ends of the flex hoses into the pail.

Mine hangs on a hook on the side of a cabinet and beside it a tin can for the hose to drop in.
Then occasionally the body of the gun would drip, so I slipped an old sock over the tube/body of the gun and leave it there, no mess and you have a rag handy to wipe your fingers off if necessary.

I'm surprised you're using hand operated guns if you do that much greasing... I love me electric and I use it maybe once a week.

He would need several electric grease guns. He may not do that much greasing but need a variety of grease for different applications.

Just a couple sections of plastic pipe 16" in length with caps on the ends. One size for the gun, one for the hose. I like this idea!

I use a piece of 3" PVC pipe with a cap on the bottom, The gun hangs with the handle outside. I plug the hose with a 1/8" NPT zerk screwed into a pipe cap.

I keep the zerk "plug" loose. I thought of tethering it either to the pipe or the gun, but decided that this would be too messy. Tethered to the pipe, the zerk would be hanging loose and dribble grease. Tethered to the gun, it would be exposed to dirt as it was dragged around the job. With it loose, I put it on a rag and clean up everything when I plug the hose to store the gun.

I keep a rag on the edge of the PVC pipe to protect the ram of the pump and also to soak up any leakage from that area. I find that all my guns seep a little around the head, ram, and the tail where the push rod emerges. I have to wipe them off regularly. NAPA, Alemite, and Lincoln guns all seep a little.
