Grease Gun storage?

For the last year, I have been working on getting my shop organized It has come along pretty good.

Over the weekend I needed to grease my v-plow.... and it hit me, I still have my grease guns, setting on the floor in a 5 gallon bucket. Does anyone have a good / clean way to store these?

I don't have a picture but a small length of 3" pvc pipe screwed to your wall or wherever you want with a small grease tray of some sort below it

Here's my setup, grease gun holders, one I got from my local NAPA, the other two are from Tractor Supply, which is cheaper than NAPA. Mounted to my work bench legs, off the floor and out of the way. My little mini grease gun, however is too small to fit, it's on the floor up against the back wall. Just my .02!!

Funny, I have mine in a stainless pan that quite resembles a cookie sheet, but it takes up too much space. I really think I'll be doing that PVC pipe idea one of these days.

Mine hangs on the side of a trashcan made from a 13gal Elf racing fuel can (as actually used by Doug Chandler when he had the #1 plate in AMA superbike racing)

I have a cabinet under a bench dedicated to the 5gal can I use for taking used motor oil to the recycler. Just enough room in there for my 2 guns and a few tubes of greese. I figured they get used contemporaniously most times so they can share each others filth as well.

At work my grease guns get their own drawer in the tool box. At home they hang from a screw in the wall. I just wipe them off after every use.

Other than the ones that are mounted on tractors, I just have them hanging on one of the handles on a roller cabinet. Extra cases on a shelf, sometimes in the spring I use 2-3 cartridges a day.

I went a different route... I have a plastic storage tote for my grease guns, spare tubes of grease, and the two tubs of axle bearing grease. All these things leak and make a mess.
I dumped about an inch of absorb-all in the bottom of the tub, put a couple hunks of 2x4 on the absorb-all, laid a piece of metal grating over the 2x4s, and set the grease guns and tubs on the grating. The tub is stored on my shelf, with the box lid closed to keep dust and dirt off of everything.

I'm glad I found this thread, I was just fixing to post one. My grease gun leaks like a sieve & i'm sick & tired of it leaking all over the bench. Good ideas on here.

I got sick of the oil seeping out of the grease in the gun. I found a small grease gun...about 1-1/2" dia and 6" long. It holds enough to do a normal grease job. I buy my grease in those two quart cans. When I want to grease something I just load up the gun, use it then put the rest back into the grease can. No oil leaking out while it sits. It's small enough to just sit on top of the grease can in the cupboard. I bought another so I don't mix greases.

I built this one a while ago, all out of black ABS.
It has worked great for me!
The top cap is a loose fit for easy removal & keeps the garage dirt & dust out of it. The bottom cap is quite a bit tighter but still removable so every once in a while I can clean out all the gunge build-up.

I drilled the hose hole (bottom left of tube, last pic) on an angle so the hose would go in easy & stay securely in place. The holes in the front of the tube itself at about 1&1/2" down from the top cap & up from the bottom cap are how its mounted. The holes are there so I could get a screw driver threw to the 2 smaller mounting holes in the back of the tube. In order to have enough room for the caps to be easily removed I used 3/8" of spacers between the wall & the main tube.
However it's not my idea. That glory goes to Stephenw(member here) I found it on his site

How are you actually attaching the tube to the wall? I can't see how you could possibly screw something in there since the one side of the tube is obviously blocking where you would be able to use a screw driver or socket??? Am I missing something very obvious?

Drilling holes near the top edge and bottom then sliding a short hex head screw through the hole from the inside out, then using a wrench to tighten the hex head screw wouldn't be hard to do I imagine.

I really like the idea of the PVC pipe storage, I'll probably have to use that, though I'd have to line them along the wall as many different guns as I have. Right now I just have 4 of them hanging inside a 5 gallon bucket like the op, with a puddle mixture of 4 different greases in the bottom

I store my grease gun in my parts washer. It sits between a wall of the washer and a magnetic tray which helps to keep it in place. The tray btw is handy for putting small hardware on to drain after they have been washed.

The picture above is of my Dad and was taken at his BA station in 1957. He was 31 then and is now 87. I was 5 when the picture was taken and didn't get to work there for another 7 years!

Although I DO like the PVC storage pipe, I usually store mine in a couple of newspaper plastic bags and pull the spring loaded push rod out to relieve the pressure on the grease inside the gun ..... Just got it laying on its side in a paper box lid ......

Is pulling the spring load rod out doing any good?
