Grease Gun Storage

How does everyone store there Grease Gun?
I have seen those brackets to hold them on the wall are they any good? They dont look like they would work with a new tube of grease when the plunger is all the way out.

I have a cordless gun that has a case. I make sure it's squeaky clean before I put it in it's case. Other than that, if you use it often ( construction) it's an dirty tool.

I had made some holder out of wood (1" board w/ hole sized to fit grease tube), but ended up using a plastic tool box as I need them portable now. I also try to keep them clean as possible.

I just wrap mine with a rag when I store it, on its side.
Since I don't use mind often, when I go to use it the next time I get liquified grease dripping down from the plunger--I hate that. And more oozes out from the bottom as you squeeze the lever. I'm still on the original tube that came with the gun; maybe it's the cheap grease that's creating the spillage.....or is it an inherent problem for all grease guns?

I've seen those holders, but wasn't willing to spend that kinda money for a grease gun holder.

I hang mine on a vinyl coated hook, on the wall. It's been working fine for 8 yrs.

I hang mine on the wall. A simple 4" nail is cheaper than any fancy store bought holder. One day i'll fab up something to make it hang off my tool trolley.

I stick mine in a 2 gallon ziplock bag.

I assure you that it is NOT the cheap grease, I use nothing but the red Mobil sythentic, and it drips all over also.

I have a pnumatic gun with Mobile 1 in it. I store it in a small plastic tub and wrapped in a rag. There always seems to be a little grease that come out when stored and though I keep it wiped down, a little film on it. This way the grease stays off other things and the gun does not ammulate dust.

I believe the plunger should be pushed back into the gun after a tube is loaded.

Here is what i did, I took a 5 gal pail, i took several sections of PVC pipe (2 & 3 inch) about the same depth as the pail. And glued them together all facing up. So i Have a couple of grease guns (1 air,1 pump) I also have several funnels. The grease guns hang from the open 3 inch PVC, in the pail and are up from the bottom of the pail. I keep newspaper in the bottom and change it when I remember. No pictures, I am at work.

Not yet but I'm using a 3inch threaded PVC union with a cap on the bottom screwed to the wall. Just drop the gun in and no grease mess to pick up. Kind of expensive at $13. But I'm tired of grease running down the walls.


P.S. Are you suppose to pull the plunger all the way out for storage?

Using PVC is a good idea; I may have to copy that.

Pulling the plunger out before storage--that might be a good idea, too? Sort of similar to how you'd push the tab on a caulking gun to relieve pressure.

Laying down with two or three others, in a kitty litter tray (no litter in it however). When they leak, it doesn't go anywhere.

I believe the plunger should be pushed back into the gun after a tube is loaded.

I'm probably misunderstanding this, but how would push the plunger through the grease? I have an old grease gun and the plunger is almost impossible to pull back once it's in the grease. The problem is that if I don't pull in back after use, it slowly sinks into the grease.

Any experts here have tips about the proper use and storage?

I throw mine inside an empty 50lb dog food bag under the work bench.
Nothing fancy.

On my grease gun the rod will pull the plunger out to load a new tube but it will slide through the plunger back into the gun so its not 2 foot long when full.

I also just hang it on the wall. Or just store them in my service cart on the bottom tray.

For the record. The plunger is to be pushed all the way in at all times.

The only time the plunger needs to be pulled back is to replace the grease cartrige. I usually just hold the gun with my foot to pull it out. Replace the cartrige and then push it back in.

I just have mine in one of the drawers of my toolbox. Just grease guns and adapters in there so I don't worry too much if they leak or whatever.

Hang mine over the side of one of the many plastic drums we have in shop.

There is one near the work table that we hang all 3 over. That way if any grease comes out it goes in the can instead of one the floor.

I just realized I have a empty sawzall case that I have had laying around that it fits perfect in.

I used to do that, but the drum would turn into a trash can and I lost a couple grease guns that way
