I had a 1.5 tonne / 18000 Btu mini split installed about 2.5 years ago and it has been fantastic. We don't run it a while lot, our garage is our home gym so in the summers we work out early enough that we don't need to cool it but in the winters, we do use the heat pump. We turned it on for the first time since last winter yesterday and everything seemed normal. The icon lit up on the air handler showing heating mode and the set temperature the fins partially opened and the outside unit spun up as it got ready to heat. After a couple of minutes the fins fully opened and the air handler started blowing air, again, as normal only the air was not hot. It was blowing room temperature air. I checked the filters and they are clean, I turned the breaker off for about an hour to reset the unit but nether of these have solved the issue. There are no error codes, everything else seems to be functioning perfectly normally, just no heat. Is there anything else I can check before I schedule an HVAC technician to come and diagnose?

It could be low on refrigerant and having a hard time warming up the indoor coil.
Did you try running it in cooling mode for a while ? If the charge is really low, it'll eventually throw a code : F0.
What's the model number ?

My first guess would be low on charge.
When I worked as an HVAC tech, my first action to a poorly performing mini split was to check for leaks, then reclaim all the refrigerant and weigh in the proper amount. Before recharging it I would check the flares and give them a little snuggie. That would fix most of them.

You can also check the smaller copper line coming out of the outside unit. Frost on it when the unit is running in A/C could be another indication of a low charge.

There is a reversing valve that is energized i heating and de energized in cooling and defrost. Difference between the two modes defrost turns the outside fan off. If the unit cools and doesn't heat the reversing valve might be moving but not all the way. In heat turn thermostat way up 80° wait 5 minutes they go outside turn power off to unit should here a sushing sound when unit shuts down unit reversing valve goes back to cooling.
