I'm replacing the trim around my garage door. I'm thinking of ordering the Green Hinges.
For those of you that have used them how well do they work for you?
Have they made enough of a difference that you would recommend them?
What do you like or dislike about them?

I thought they were a little expensive but decided that they probably would work. Wow, what a difference and it makes the insulated door functional. They are worth the money IMHO.

How does a hinge make an insulated door functional? Is it not functional already? Is this a garage door?

It works to make an insulated door functional the same way that closing a door in an insulated building makes the insulation functional.

Look at the links if you don't understand.

I did green hinges.
Couldn't be happier with Lester as a vendor and now phone friend.
I went a couple of steps further.
Liftmaster 8500
Nylon rollers
Filled roller-stem housing with silicone sealant.
Pushed the roller stem in, wiped off the silicone it pushed out.
Without prompting, almost everyone comments on how my door is almost silent.

Who did u get ur nylon rollers from? I need 3" and its hard to find... that arnt a billon $$$

I got them on Amazon.
I think they were about a dollar a piece.
Measure yours and then look at the replacements specs on line.
Some were 2 7/8 and not three and some are 2 3/4 not really three.
I think the ones I ordered were an 1/8 off from mine but it made no difference.
I had considered rollerblade wheels and milling them down to get them to exactly fit the tracks.
Maybe on the next door....

Mine are 2 7/8
I thought about roller blade wheels too. I saw a set cheap i almost bought it. But i need more projects like another hole in my head!

I'm wondering if spraying the inside of the track with bedliner or maybe something more spongy would deaden sound even more.
Maybe that self stick foam tape they use to seal doors.
It's cheap....

How about this?

Unbolt (one at a time), each place the track bolts to the wall. Then put a piece of rubber sheet between the foot and the wall. Another piece on top of the foot, then a washer, and then the bolt it back together again.

Do the same thing to the ceiling mounts. Here, the rubber under the mount is more important than the rubber between the mount and the ceiling. And since you have space, you could use something thicker there, like a piece of 1/2" thick rubber matting (remember you'll need longer bolts if you do this).

Replace the metal straps that the GDO hangs from with pieces cut from an old serpentine belt or truck mud flap.

I thought the same thing. The Green Hinges hold the door tighter to the frame providing a much better seal, keeping out the cold air in winter.

Green Hinges work and Lester is a great guy to work with!

Good idea! I have good garaga doors and the liftmaster 8500 but when it's windy you hear the wind blowing through the tiny cracks at the sides. If I push the door tight, the noise vanishes. I tried moving the sealing rubber tighter and this worked except it was so tight I couldn't open or close the doors! LOL! These hinges should be the perfect answer!

This will be my second winter with Green Hinges. I love them!
A good test if you would benefit from them is on a windy day turn the lights off and watch for the daylight around the seals when the wind blows.
I have noticed less dust/dirt on my car and a warmer garage!

I put a set of green hinges on my 9ft high door. Previously the door was kinda loose and rattled in the wind , now they are tight to the weatherstripping , but still roll up and down nicely. Ordering them was fast and easy ,shipping was fast. I Would recommend them .

I installed the green hinges on both my double door and single insulated doors. I am not concerned about temp control but we do get a ton of wind and the doors would rattle and we would get a lot of dust that would blow by the weather-strip in the past. With these installed it completely eliminates that issue. Now I can sit in my garage on windy days and watch a game without my doors chattering and it has greatly reduced the dirt and dust that would blow in also. I am extremely happy with this product. It is well worth the money. I ordered direct from the website https://www.greenhingesystem.com/ They have outstanding customer service and my product shipped within hours of me placing the order. Buy with confidence and pick yourself up a set. G1.jpgG2.jpg
