Hello from the Great White North everyone! I'm not sure how many Canadians are on this board but I'm from the capital (Ottawa, Ontario).
I *FINALLY* got a house with some proper work space and I'm excited to get set up.
Here's some pics of the main space. It's a 26'x24' (interior dimensions) heated and insulated garage.
The oil furnace in the corner isn't being used and I need to take it out (anyone near Ottawa want a free oil furnace?). It's heated via an electric heater on the ceiling and will eventually be replaced with a propane shop heater (our house is heated with propane).
That being said, the previous owner said keeping the shop at 10*C (50*F) all winter costs him about $450 for the season so it's not a huge priority.
The open door has an opener and remote, the other is manual. This is one of three total garages (1 car attached to the house, for the wife and a large shed directly off the back of that for yard equipment) so this space is mine to wreak havoc with. The driveway will accommodate about 12 cars if you really squeeze them in.
Now a quick question here. I'm looking at installing a lift and I'm arguing 2 vs. 4 post.
I prefer a 4 post as I don't have to lay on the ground to lift a car, but I'm afraid it's going to kill too much space. The 4 post I have in mind is 9' wide by 15' long. Plus two 3' removable loading ramps.
I'm also concerned this will make it a PITA to get in/out of the shop as the lift would be closest to the wall with the man door.
Inversely, my concerns with a 2 post are that I haven't the slightest idea how thick the slab is and I'm worried I'm going to end up down the rabbit hole of punching out and re-pouring half the damn slab.
Let me know your thoughts people, I'm gonna be picking your brains a LOT as I get this space up and running.
