I did start a thread in the gallery with the work (pitiful compared to most on here) I've done to my 10x20 shed/garage/thing that was there when we bought the house: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=297306

But I never posted to just say hello. Have to say, this is a great site with a ton of info. A lot of which I used to run power out to my out building. Hope to build a 2 car detached in the not too distant future. Lots of site work needed though. Look forward to learning and posting updates as we go.

Hi and welcome to the forum westracing all the best with your new build, it looks like you have a fair bit of soil to remove being on a sloping piece of ground.

As always, enjoy.

This is just one of the first states to adopt the draconian measures that will eventually be force fed to the rest of the country by our benevolent dictator... Er, I mean, President.

01: not sure what draconian measures you are mentioning and i thought i knew what it meant, but still looked it up. i'm guessing you are talking about the building permit process? if so they have been hard to obtain since i was a full time Realtor in 1981 so nothing new there. if it's something else then do tell if you can.

good luck and again welcome to our group

LOL. No no, that was a reply back to "Goohead" about being pro 2a.

Ignore that. Our building permit process isn't that horrendous for small stuff (like plumbing, electrical, etc.) I'm WAY early in the planning for my future garage. When the time comes to build, I plan to turn it over to one of our local (CT wide, not in town per se) specialty garage builders. They act as the GC and pull the permits, do foundation and site work along with build the garage itself. And yes, there's a ton of site work that has to be done in order to build a garage back there. Luckily for me, we have city water/sewer and the water and sewer lines do not run anywhere near where I want to build. The old abandoned, concrete filled septic tank is under where the driveway will go but I don't particularly see that as being an issue.

Anyway, thank you for all the welcomes.

01: thanks for clarifying. your plans sound well grounded and start a thread and ask questions once you start the process. to keep the thread alive per say and not lost in the thousands i'd suggest posting lots of pictures and details often and even better is to start posting on threads you find that you like or know something to help another member. some of the thousands of garage builds never get more than a few posts if the member isn't known or he or she doesn't put in many details or pictures.

for example Kevin54 is one of our more popular members and he doesn't even have the roof on a garage addition and he's already got 60,000 views. he writes good posts and he's a great guy and if we lived closer some of us would be helping in person.

one idea you might look into is the filling of the old septic tank. i'm not sure about the legalities in your area, but instead of me having to dig up an old oil tank on my property when i changed to gas heat i had it cleaned and filled with a foam like cement for about $400 and i have a fig tree producing awesome fruit now growing on top of it.

good luck and hope to see a few of your posts while you are enjoying your AC.
