The Blackhawk locking pliers might be a good choice for someone with a tighter budget. Made in Taiwan. And, like the Grip-on pliers, the release lever is pulled, not pushed, which is the way all locking pliers should be.

Here's a review posted over on toolguyd.

Here is some Grip-on love from a roof skin I bonded last weekend. Most of them are Blue Point, but a few are Napa.

These are definitely on the want list.

...Only problem I have now is I need more of them but Channellock doesn't carry them anymore. I know Grip-On's are available from other sources in other colors but I have a weird OCD thing about my tools matching. Its stupid I know but I can't help it.

I am the same way about matching tools. When I spring for these I'll probably end up going Proto, which raises the big question:

Do I go nickel or black epoxy? :D

Damn all you guys! I just went over to cripe and bought a bunch more. I also took a look at the snap on and blue point pliers, seems that the blue point are now just china ****. The snap on ones are almost the same price as amazon, the warranty should be easier to deal with as well.

I purchased my Grip-on pliers when Amazon was heavily discounting them along with PB Swiss. I bought a nice selection of Grip-on and a great deal of PB Swiss four or five years ago :D.

I have a great selection of USA Peterson and Irwin Vise Grip pliers. However, Grip-on has them beat on jaw design, jaw length, plier length, and plier size (for non-welding type vise grips).

Here is my small collection of Grip-on pliers:
