I did my shop in EMT conduit and ran a separate ground wires. Nice way of making sure you always have a good ground.

All the boxes are steel ( kind of have to for the EMT). :)

I'm updating a couple of outlets and the ones I bought are self grounding (that nice little brass connector on one end).

Basically, each of my outlets are have two separate ground systems, EMT back to the panel and the separate green ground wire. And of course the ground wire is terminated at each box.

I just cant bring myself to not use the separate ground terminal on the socket, ignoring that the part is self grounding.

I'm thinking between the dual grounds, tamper resistance sockets and GFI's I might not be safe enough. Perhaps I need to add a few AFIC's into the panel? :lol_hitti

Just curious what everyone else does... Opinions?

I know it's always been standard practice for me to pigtail the equipment ground to the receptacle, self grounding or not. That's how I show the apprentices I want them made up too.

I put in one of those USB charger / socket fixtures next to a 20 AMP Decora socket in a 4x4 box. The USB charger is pretty deep, add in all the ground wires and it was getting a little annoying getting everything dressed back to fit cleanly.

Kind of thinking.. Why am I killing myself trying to dress five, 12 AWG ground wires when four ( or even 1) would do? It's done... Just muttering out loud.
