GB: so are the guys thinking that you saved enough in gas by riding your bike back and forth to work that you can afford this AMAZING HOUSE and SHOP?

you've got my vote to buy it if it's got good neighbors and it won't break the bank.

here's to a great 2018!!

HotFr8 &Hewey: is there a sales price on this house and is it in a good area? WOW that has me thinking with ZERO STEPS into both the main floor and garage. how much or is it up for AUCTION and bidding needs to happen?

Lots of money up there.....

Nice garage space, but IMHO I don't like the look of the house. :dunno: ;)

And it's mountain goat territory around there too. Not far from Dendrobium Mine....

I'd say it's too far up hill, and too far from the beach for Rod (but that's just a guess).

Lyndon
Just tossin' in my 2c worth.

Lyndon, Interesting point. Anything split level scares me. I would hate to be trying to move a disabled vehicle in and out of that place. Still the design is interesting.

It is basically a house built over a factory.

Hi guys, did you note the grade of the concrete going up the side ? Too steep for me.

Unique property non the less, be interesting see what it goes for. That size in that area would be pushing a couple mil at a guess.

Hope you are all well and you had a good start to the new year, hope to get some QST on the weekend and catch up on the journal as I've been a bit distracted with work and other things last few weeks.

Cheers GB

I reckon in this market - um, 1.4 - 1.6Mil. But you’re right - there’s no way any of my cars would make it up & down those grades without dragging their bums (Jags) or chins (Falcon).....

And at 3500 sq metres (3/4s of an acre) - that’s a lot of mowing!

With that price tag you would or should be able to afford to pay some one to do the mowing.

I’d have to hand back my man card if I got someone else to mow for me (unless maybe - I lost a leg........ And even then it would only be till I got a prosthetic!)

Lyndon, If you could spend more time in the Garage I would be happy to let some one else mow the grass considering I get hay fever. Although like you I often find mowing would be a give away of the man card. For me mowing can be relaxing and the best time to think things over.

Edit: GB, Sorry some how your topic has been hijacked.

Hi all,

I just had a look and that above property is still on the market asking $2,250,000. Yikes.

Hope everyone is well, I'm way behind on lots of threads including this one :)

GB, welcome back.

$2.25m is just a tad over my budget..:shocking:

Well I could just about swing $2.25 if I skip my weekly pie at the local bakery...oh... wait a minute... what is a "m"

:willy_nil

W...a...a...a..y over my budget !! :(

Then again , all that space would drive me crazy. I'm pretty sure I would be still cramming everything into a little corner like I'm used to LOL

Careful what you wish for ?

Welcome back GB- still riding ?

GB: welcome back mate. looks like your $1 is worth the same as the Canadian $1 now.

that said that house is still way over my price range. speaking of nice homes since you live close to the beach how much is a decent home in your area maybe with a view or close to the beach?

i'm guessing waterfront is EXPENSIVE or maybe you are not allowed to own waterfront property in Australia?

cheers

That's a good price for a pie coolabah. Yep still riding. Rolled over 600kms today (373 mi) since I started riding last September. 400kms on the Giant Cross City now. It's needs a good chain clean and lube but is otherwise going very well.

Drives lots and lots of waterfront property here in Au. Near me anything that can see the ocean is likely 7 figures easily and up from there. (note - no ocean views for me)

So not a lot posted since before xmas. Been very busy work wise with a couple of work trips thrown in back up to north Queensland. The summer heat just zaps me most weekends so apart from the lawns, not a lot of progress was made on other projects.

Hopefully now that we are starting to cool down I can get a few things finished, but need to clean up the garage first.

The weekend just gone I did manage to get a small project completed. A tailgate cover for the back of the Hilux. Much better to kneel on than the standard steel. Sorry only got a finished pic. It's just a thin sheet of ply (about 9mm) covered in marine type car carpet.

That tailgate cover/kneeling pad is a really simple but great idea GB.

:Homer: DOH! Why don't I ever think of stuff like that. I hate climbing up on the hard steel surface and that loose pad I carry never seems to be handy when I need it. I think I may have to copy that idea from you. My old knee caps will certainly thank you.

Yep RM I've been thinking about it for a long time - just never got to it. Very happy with how it's setup now.

GB, nice work on the tail gate cover.

All, Managed to get a few projects worked on over the easter long weekend oriented around some tweeks with the camping setup.

This is one that's now ready for testing.

Turned an old camp stool into a small side table for using around the fire etc.

Made up a top using some old ply and fabricated some aluminium brackets to lock the legs in.

I thought I'd give this water based polyurethane a go. No smell, easy to apply - it looks like very runny PVA glue and dries clear with fast dry times. I use the same product in an oil base which is fantastic also, but the oil based one always skins over in the tin and has the obvious longer dry time/cleanup hassles.

Grumblebum,
You have good skills!
I like the tailgate cover. I keep a moving blanket in the truck for my knees, but your solution is better.
Good job on the re-purposing the stool into a table.

Thanks Jon :) I'm not a fan of kneeling either.

That's my wife's favorite brand of stain. I wonder how that would hold up to water being water based.

xtremek, once it sets off it seems fine so far. In fact I've been making two more camp fire side tables for siblings birthdays coming up.

But love the quick drying of the polyurethane.

I traced my old bonnet VW badge onto one after the first poly coat and wifie hand painted it in before I applied a couple more coats of poly over the top.

Also started to make a sheet metal brake today, have a few things to do that need some metal formed up, so raided mine and dads scap piles.

Grabbed a weld on gate hinge at the hardware, but really should have just made one.

View media item 82553
Maked it out with engineers chalk...

View media item 82554
A bit generous on the cutouts, but easily filled...

View media item 82555
Roughly formed up, the hinges were a ****** to get moving despite trying to keep them all in the centre of the pivot point - (I don't think they were all that straight out of the packet), hit with some WD40 and they freed up after a bit of pivot repetition for a while.

It's just shy of 3' long (just worked to the length of the angle iron I had rather than go for a specific size), I'll probably mount it on the back of my longer 4' timber top mobile bench which should work well.

View media item 82556
Cut 2' off an old galvanised clothes line arm for a handle...

View media item 82557
And test out on a scrap offcut. Seems to work :) That was 1.2 mm. Hope to be able to bend some 2-3 mm aluminium chequer plate with it.

View media item 82558
Just had it clamped down with my welding clamps, so I hope that once I get it bolted correctly that bend radius will tighten up a little bit more. Will see how she goes.

View media item 82559
Garage is still a mess. A few days off in the coming week as it's also school holidays, so hopefully a day of clean up time can get squeezed in.

Cheers GB. :beer2:

Edit: I've just worked out why the bend radius is out. The weld on tabs that come on the hinge are not welded on centre, they are welded offset. So I was aligning everything in the X/Y axis, but hadn't noted the Z axis was sitting high, it needs to drop to bring it back to centre on the pivot point also.

So I'll have to edit slightly. ******.

Day off today with the kidlets (school holidays), made some Anzac biscuits with the young bloke which were yummy.

No QST during the day, but tonight I've managed to finish assembly of the camp fire side tables for my brothers camping kits.

They passed the QC  test.

View media item 82608
They fold flat into a boot-liner bag designed for a similar type product that I get from an Aussie manufacturer in Gloucester NSW. (drifta.com.au)

Up early for Anzac day in the morning.

that sheet metal brake is great, so simple!
i should be able to get everything i need from work to make up something similar...

Thanks for stopping in kai, yep just spend some time getting your hinges (and I'd probably just make them) in the right orientation and the rest is easy.

Mounted it up to my 4' mobile bench today, currently just using 4" M12 bolts.

View media item 82621
Worked out I need to subtract 4mm from where I want the bend with how it is currently.

View media item 82622
But this is one of the projects I wanted a brake for, some heat/wind shields to sit beside the stove in the camp kitchen. I found the timber got really hot when I tested it out the other week cooking and I had to remove the original stove wings as they were too wide for where the stove sits. So these should work well. :rocker:

I had to cut the lengths with a grinder and thin disc. Now I need a sheer. Anyone made one of them before ? Might have to look at what Hare & Forbes have.

View media item 82625
There is approx 5mm that the hinge centres should have moved down, oh well. Nothing a bit of 3mm bit of bar shouldn't help with. Just need to grab some as I don't have any flat bar stock. Will set it up to be removable. (thanks again Terrick)

View media item 82626
And everything looks better in paint :)

View media item 82627
Couple of randoms, the twin benches have been a treat working on.

View media item 82623
Bit of hand filing...

View media item 82624
Hopefully testing some aluminium bending on Friday or the weekend.

Cheers GB.

Nice work making that brake GB. I was wondering if you would need a bit of bracing on the back side of the static jaw to keep the middle from bowing slightly during a bend. But it appears the angle iron itself provides enough stiffness to get a clean bend for the gauge of material you are using. Very nice addition to your work table.

Thanks RM, it seems ok so far (at least for 1.2mm). I'll see how it goes on the aluminium chequer plate - that may need a bit extra welded on (hopefully I didn't paint too early )

I bought one of these from hare and Forbes. Only used it a few times but it certainly does the job!

Would you believe yesterday morning my Hare and Forbes newsletter email had the throatless sheer featured with a $55 discount code ? So have just ordered one

I know OIF (Andy) has been using one the same also a bit recently and it looks good.

I'm behind on your thread too Kai, but am in catch up mode.

GB, great work on the metal brake..:thumbup:

Thanks 1/2 cup, I need to get my cold cut saw finished so it can do some work. I can't believe how fast you restored the one you recently acquired.:cool:

GB, I noticed Hare and Forbes are offering more and more discounts of late..

The shear should be great..

Once I get stuck into a project I tend to get very single minded...

I think you'll find your new metal cutting tool to be a shear delight.

Thanks, I did add the mig gun holder to the cart also 1/2 cup ;) I would love to visit their warehouse one day and drool a little.

I would be further along on my cold cut saw rebuild but I am struggling to remove a flange that hides the last bolts holding the motor assembly on, scared I'm going to crack it. Really need to get back on it as I've had several jobs that it could have been used for.

pretty sure that's exactly how i ended up with mine!! haha

Lol yep Kai, I normally try not to open them for that reason.

Interesting Andy, I can replicate the issue in all browsers, however this only occurs if you are not signed in as my profile is to show to registered members only.

Presumably you are signed in when reading ? Photos are all hosted here on the journal, so no funky 3rd party hosting involved either.

Had a use for the sheer again today however the grinder had to suffice. Hopefully the sheer arrives tomorrow.

GB, I must confess to never being in Hare and Forbes front door either, their online is enough to make me drool.

What breed of cold cut saw is it?

I did not part the motor from the drive on mine although I should replace the motor bearings at some point.
