Oh come one now! No dipping just your toes in the water, jump all the way and get fully immersed in this disease of vises. That needs a full strip down and restore to original (or better) glory.
By then you will have the fever full blown and already 2 or 3 more vises waiting in the wings and the you too can achieve that status of the same strange look from family and friends.

Much like potato chips, no one can stop at just one!

But a very nice find and I'm sure will be a good compliment to your shop.

Well done Gumblebum and I can see an electrolysis bath I the near future.

You could always ship them to Shepp for treatment.

I could very well be putting one together soon 1/2 Cup, ironically this vise and several others that I've seen are from Victoria.

Cheers Grumblebum.

I like the DP in the cabinet. Do you have it on slides or just in there?

It just sits in there Gerard, I thought it was a good spot for it - a slide would make it more convenient to get in and out.

I've been toying with a few ideas of having it out on a bench so it was pretty much ready to go. Took the TV and shelf down to see how it would go in that spot, fits fine and room to lift the top to adjust the belts, but I think it's too low to stand there and work at.

IMG_4520.jpg

Up on my mobile bench is a good height and if I mount it there I can move it around anywhere in the garage or outside. I'd been trying to keep this bench clean(ish) and was thinking about what you have done mounting the devices on the plates first then just having set holes to mount when needed.

I could mount it on this one with a vise and maybe in the future a bench grinder, and it would just be a mobile machine bench.

IMG_4526.jpg

The other night I was looking at this space on the southern side of the garage. I have a small room under the house that is enclosed that I use for material storage, water tank pump and PV inverter etc - like a small plant room but you can't stand in there it would be maybe 5' at it highest. Anyway I was thinking about moving the air compressor under there and plumbing in some lines. I could mount the power switch for it on the bench where I had the drill press sitting in the first photo as it is behind that wall (there is a split level between the old part and new extension on the house).

Then I could make 2 more mobile benches to go in this space - probably leave the white shelf at the top so wife and kids have a spot for their bits and bobs of craft stuff etc.

The benches can each be 15 1/2" deep x 33" wide. One can then store my table saw (that currently is in storage limbo) and have a wood vise mounted to it, and the other one I was thinking of using as a welding bench as I've got a bit of a sheet left of 8mm (0.31") plate sitting outside. [sorry left my tape measure with both metric and imperial in my truck tonight].

Learnt how electric windows fit together yesterday, wifes rear window on the Camry had started dropping down - not a good thing when kids are in the back!

So after pulling the door trim off and lots of looking I found the little gear mechanism stuck to the back of the magnet on the door speaker. The teeth are a bit mangled up so it's obviously jammed up at some point in the past.

IMG_4529.jpg

IMG_4531.jpg

My fix was to drill a hole through (which meant testing out the new bench vise - very good no more clamps in they way) and then tap out the hole so a threaded screw could go in which I shimmed out with some washers so that it couldn't pull back through again.

IMG_4533.jpg

IMG_4535.jpg

The door panel has been off in the past by the look of the crappy sikaflex job holding the plastic sheeting on. Still have it on my arms

IMG_4536.jpg

..and then back to working on the walk in wardrobe :)

That would be good idea having a mobile machine bench. You can roll it outside and make a mess outside which in turns keep inside clean. As for the compressor would put it where one you can drain it but doesn't need to be close. If your good I would go through compressor and find all the leaks so then you wouldn't lose air and compressor turn on in middle of the night. Compressor leaks drive me crazy. I can sit mine for weeks without losing air. I never tested it longer than that but I only lose air if I have a tool in the quick connect. I also don't like reels. I had one and lost about 1/2 of my CFM running through the reel. I decided that it wasn't worth it. I think I got like 125 to 150 ft of hose on mine right now and just looping it over the handle works fine for me.

Nice repair job. Saved you a bunch of money over the dealer or repair shop too.

Thanks rmalkow2, you can just see in the bottom of the picture of the door the front shocks waiting to go in it too when I get 5.

Apart from being a bit thirsty the Camry is a great vehicle. It's a 99 model vxi wagen. V6, plenty of power and never misses a beat, no rattles or anything otherwise. A bit messy from lugging the kids around and wife taking on the front gate once or twice - but nothing that can't be fixed up.

Thanks for dropping in, might be some goodies to restore turn up tomorrow too!

Cheers Grumblebum.

Cheers taumac, I think mine is the same - only losing air if something is attached. Otherwise she is good and will hold pressure happily for a long time. I also try to drain it regularly. The one we have at work leaks and yes it is annoying - it needs some TLC.

My idea at this stage is to run hard lines with copper to a point on the bench and one to just near the back door outside. Both are short runs but that will give me an inside and outside point which should more than cover my requirements. Then I can just connect up the hose where I need to work.

Cheers Grumblebum.

E bath for sure:thumbup:,

Nice vices Grumblebum.

I believe you caught the vise bug. Very nice finding 2 of the same brand vises.

Thanks guys, another busy weekend is here already.
- Walk in robe lights and flooring (and hopefully complete)
- Running kids around (sleepover at grandparents for them after morning sports):D
- Dinner for local primary school 125 year celebrations where our daughter attends
- Plus a couple of work related things that need doing.
- Visit our nephew for 4th birthday
- QST ? Hopefully as I have nice list of jobs to get into. The castors for the welding and woodwork benches turned up today - I think if I can at least cut all the steel ready for welding I'll be happy.

Have a good weekend. Grumblebum.

Another vice, unreal:thumbup:

All the best with the young blokes birthday and your fishing trip:thumbup:

Thanks 1/2 Cup, he was extremely happy with the little 7' rod and reel combo this morning and he got to try it out this afternoon. He loved it but unfortunately the fishies didn't come :(

Woodworking Dawn looks in reasonable condition! How big is it?

It's roughly 5" wide x 4" high. I had no idea on it's physical size until it turned up.

IMG_4551.jpg

IMG_4552.jpg

It does not appear to have done much work so really shouldn't take much to clean up. Not sure where I'll use this one yet - suited for light woodworking jobs. Might be a candidate for a future little workbench for my now 4 year old son.

Keep watching this space the big brothers of this little one should turn up later in the week :)

Cheers Grumblebum.

Had a very important project to work on in my workshop tonight.

Decorative top for birthday cake for 4 year old party tomorrow (was supposed to just be a couple of his friends from day care. Saw the list before and there are 15 kids on it! although I think several are siblings of the invitees.)

Anyway, we had a Lego shuttle to assemble.

IMG_4553.jpg

And if you've seen the Lego movie you'll know to follow the instructions :)

IMG_4554.jpg

...packet no1 done.

IMG_4557.jpg

...assembly finished.

IMG_4558.jpg

...satellite deployed.

IMG_4559.jpg

...ready to top the cake.

IMG_4560.jpg

...obligatory bits left over.

IMG_4562.jpg

Have fun, Grumblebum.

Ha,ha, good project that I'm sure your son will enjoy. And like many of our typical garage projects there are some parts left over.
Love it!

Never good when your finished and say " where the hell do these go" LOL

Come on now, everything has it's place and the extra parts go into the "extra parts bin, box, drawer, or whatever.":D
We all got at least one of these parts containers in the garage.

But I get the point. Sometimes I scratch my head afterward also.:headscrat

Sometimes they just throw in extra parts that have no use. I think they do this to drive us crazy.:shocking:

Nice setup you have. I am stealing your chalkboard paint on the cabinets idea.

Haha, I was going to say Gerard won't want any left over bits to add to his current sorting pile but he beat me to it :)

Nice setup you have. I am stealing your chalkboard paint on the cabinets idea.

If I did mine again I'd take the doors off and paint them, just makes it a bit neater than it bleeding around the edges when trying to do it in place.

Thanks for the comments and for dropping by bj383ss, much appreciated.

Two definite e-bath candidates arrived this mornining.

Dawn No.7 and No.9 woodwork vises.

IMG_4564.jpg

IMG_4565.jpg

The No.7 will be a nice fit for the welding/woodwork benches I'm going to make as soon as I can get some welding time in. The No.9 might go to live in my dad's shed where there is more room or maybe go on the bigger mobile bench that it's sitting on in the pic.

IMG_4566.jpg

IMG_4567.jpg

Size comparison with the Dawn Junior.

IMG_4569.jpg

Now just to get some QST to bring these things back to life.

Cheers Grumblebum.
