It just sits in there Gerard, I thought it was a good spot for it - a slide would make it more convenient to get in and out.
I've been toying with a few ideas of having it out on a bench so it was pretty much ready to go. Took the TV and shelf down to see how it would go in that spot, fits fine and room to lift the top to adjust the belts, but I think it's too low to stand there and work at.
Up on my mobile bench is a good height and if I mount it there I can move it around anywhere in the garage or outside. I'd been trying to keep this bench clean(ish) and was thinking about what you have done mounting the devices on the plates first then just having set holes to mount when needed.
I could mount it on this one with a vise and maybe in the future a bench grinder, and it would just be a mobile machine bench.
The other night I was looking at this space on the southern side of the garage. I have a small room under the house that is enclosed that I use for material storage, water tank pump and PV inverter etc - like a small plant room but you can't stand in there it would be maybe 5' at it highest. Anyway I was thinking about moving the air compressor under there and plumbing in some lines. I could mount the power switch for it on the bench where I had the drill press sitting in the first photo as it is behind that wall (there is a split level between the old part and new extension on the house).
Then I could make 2 more mobile benches to go in this space - probably leave the white shelf at the top so wife and kids have a spot for their bits and bobs of craft stuff etc.
The benches can each be 15 1/2" deep x 33" wide. One can then store my table saw (that currently is in storage limbo) and have a wood vise mounted to it, and the other one I was thinking of using as a welding bench as I've got a bit of a sheet left of 8mm (0.31") plate sitting outside. [sorry left my tape measure with both metric and imperial in my truck tonight].
Cheers Grumblebum.
