GB: your shop is looking better every time i check in to see what you've done. those drawers turned out AWESOME and WELL DONE SIR!!
Garage Tetris is what i call it and it's got so bad at my place that i moved different cabinets in a couple months ago and i've yet to fill them up. maybe cause i know there is a better cabinet or solution coming soon. in any case i need to settle on a plan and get my STUFF out of boxes and buckets so i can GET ORGANIZED and find my tools and STUFF. looks like you are doing a great job with yours and calling it Geralding is another good term cause i think he maxed out his space with the WOC and decided there was something better to be had (or maybe Dan's offer was just too good to pass up).
one last thing. i have a $400 per month storage unit full of FREE or ALMOST FREE STUFF so is it really FREE. think about it if you are going to pick up something just because it's FREE. if you can't use it, sell it or pass it on to somebody that can just keep driving. It is sometimes very hard to say NO, but some of us need to more often. EXCEPT maybe ANDY cause he's got more space than all of us combined, but i bet he doesn't get as many chances at some of this stuff that we do that live in the bigger cities.
nice spot for your jack stands!!
cheers
Drives, thanks. Yes storage is expensive. At $400 a month I guess you need to work out of you are covered out of the “hobby” with the wheeling and dealing that you do rather than being directly out of pocket. If you have access to family or close friends with some land, a shipping container works great for your overflow and long term storage needs.
I’ve seen some of the cabinets you have posted here and there, they look pretty darn good too.
Looking good!
I just hate it when they change labeling and colors so I don't have a matched set when I buy more, as in your jack stands. Sounds like a powder coating job, to me.
Andy, yep in the shop they looked the same packaging and everything as the first set, so I naturally assumed they would be the exact same model. Turns out they are slightly different not only in colour/color, but slightly different in design too. I guess a bit of scotch brite and a rattle can bring some uniformity back to them.
GB,
Great work as usual. I really enjoy "Garage Tetris" as Drives calls it. I am actually doing it right now on the auto side of my garage tool pegboard. I am even trying to decide on a color to paint it after sifting through many GJ's awesome garages. I just can't decide on a color. A light Machine grey or a light Blue so that all my current Blue would still go with the theme.
That's a great idea for jack stands. Mine currently are just in the corner on the floor.
Bret
Thanks
Bret, I have caught up on your thread this morning and you have progressed there since this post. I like that blue you are using, I have a similar shade here and yep my wife too was one of the design consultants on the colour. I am too trying to work out some garage colour options, the melamine cabinet doors are just too “white”.
My jack stands have been in limbo a while now also, they used to be in the bottom of the red cabinet, but I ended up using that for fluids - some of which may now follow into the file cabinet...
When to stop and when to drive on by....? That's a tough question. I guess you don't when you got everything you need? I remember when I didn't drive by anything and there was always something in back of the truck I was bringing home. Now I still keep a eye out for things but that's only if I find something better than I already have.
Gerard, I think it’s easier to stop and pickup if you see something of “value” that you would have held off purchasing yourself otherwise, or like you suggest will be a better fit than something you already have. (I think I just said the same thing twice there).
You are becoming the Alfred E Neuman of the GJ... (right now millennials are googling that name) Sly as a fox...... single handily changing the tool vernacular of our time.... not sure if you are a visionary or Dr. Evil....
I can't take credit for the term just like you can't give yourself a nickname. It's given to you by your buddies and CBacres coined the term "Gerarded". It's good to leave your mark somewhere and to have a influence on people. We all can have a good laugh blaming me. Hell, I blamed the GJ for alot. I'm just glad I have good friends on the GJ who understand the whole Garage Life deal.
Man that was a long time ago the old MAD magazine.
Man! What I could buy with $400/month!
If I have all this space, why is my shop so crowded?
Anyway, the reason i replied to this post, is we all know why you haven't had the time to organize your garage the last few months.
How are the young couple doing?
Congratulations again!
Yep we need to get
Drives attention back on track post wedding. He’s now been dreaming of
Dennis (denwood) doing table dances in his garage on torsion box benches. (you’ll have to read Dennis’s thread to follow that one).
Grumb, I can see why you like lilscorpion's work org thread! I spent a good chunk of time going through that thread. Thanks for the torsion box tips.
From what I see of your shop, you're on the path to similar fame here in your efforts to bring order to chaos. Every time I feel the urge to build a bigger shop, I come to threads like this
Thanks for the kind words
Dennis, it’s one of my favourite threads.
Hopefully I can get drawers phase 2 and 3 knocked over and get started on the additional overhead cabinet adjustments/additions. I think then I’ll be pretty happy with the organisation in my “corner” which is 9’ 2” (2800) x 10’ 2” (3100).
I would really like to build a small garden shed to get the mower/trimmers and yard tools into something more appropriate. Just need to get that approved by you know who - but that won’t be until after some other projects are sorted outside. I would really really like to make some room for a small mill, brake and shear - maybe a slightly larger garden shed
All,
Have been a bit busy the last few weeks with work and such over to Western Australia for a couple of days and just last week I was back in New Zealand doing some follow up work, hence my tardy updates here. But the other weekend we did manage a little extended long weekend family get away up to Cairns.
Visited one of the local attractions where they do tours in the old army DUKS. There are 12 at this facility which is the largest working collection in the Southern Hemisphere.
Anyway a few pics, couldn’t quite get to the back of one to get a pic of the propeller. Some more info about these ones can be found here:

Also at the tour they had this fella. 5.5 mtr (18’) saltwater croc. He’s 70+ years old. Story with this guy he was starting to cause trouble out in the wild where he was so was brought into the property. They tried a mating program with him but he killed all 12 females they offered him over the years. Think the guide said they tried a 13’th time a few years later with the same result.

Although a mostly sunny day today, ground still a bit too wet for mowing. Spent most of the afternoon getting stuck into detailing wifies car.
Got some more threads to catch up on now.
Cheers GB.
