AHHHH! Beat me to it, yes the grills. Give us some more time to respond bro.
What car is this (off the top of you head, a true car guy will know immediately).

Just had to post. Lots about the blaak Corvette is modified, but it is a 1968 (or at least the doors are from a 1968). That is the only year of the C3 (68-82) that has a little button to open the doors. On all other years, the key goes in a flat round piece, and the door is actually opened with a flat "flapper" above the key hole.
I would have gotten the 300SL but not the Cortina. The Cortina at first I thought was one of these -

Opel (GM Stateside) could be a Kadett?-too early to be an Ascona.
Kaiser Darrin, fiberglass body, doors slide into the front fender.
Here is a good pic from Carnut.com showing the door on a '68. I missed the door on the black one but caught the side vents. thinking it was a '69. The '70's up went with the checkerboard side vents. So I was a year off myself.
Kadett it is!

Cool
So, can anyone name the partially obscured red car behind it?......
I will call it Betty. It looks familiar but it also looks like about a hundred similar cars, but noting is jumping out, plus how will we know if it's the correct answer?

Oh Mickey! Come on!-It's a game & there has to be an element of trust here.....If you don't believe me you could always do a google image search.
I do appreciate that it might be hard for for you guys Stateside to identify some of our Euroboxes but I don't have a hope on 99% of the US market
I'll give a clue-somewhere within the picture is the manufacturers insignia. You may have to enlarge the original but I assure you it is there.
I don't see any insignia, I think it might be a Renault 5.
These are toooo easy. Time for something obscure...

How about the one below, there's a guy around here that has and drives one.

Would that be the Custom Cloud?
Monte Carlo with a Rolls Royce bumper.
That's the way Elroy sees it as well
'68
I think I need to get my eyes checked, I don't see the Renault logo on the hubcap and I wasn't sure if it was a shadow or not on the Corvette, I had a '69 and that was one of the first things I looked for.

Wow, that Custom Cloud is fuuuugly!
How bout this one, year, make and model
