Just curious what kind of inventive ways you guys have come up with to store your guns. Maybe it's in your garage/shed, or maybe it's a piece of custom cabinetry you made in your garage that is used in your house. Or maybe you took the traditional approach of a safe and somehow blended in with something.

Whatever the means to your madness, please share!

I enclosed mine in the cabinets we built in my reloading/gun room in the garage.
Still need to make the bottom trim piece and get some kind of flooring in.

I haven't done a build thread, mostly due to laziness.....
OK, entirely due to laziness.

There was a thread on ar15.com a few years back where a guy took the larger size jobsite box you can buy at a big box store and turned that into a gun locker for his "zombie outbreak kit". Had it painted up with a black and blood red marbling with some vinyl Umbrella Corp stickers under the clearcoat. Looked pretty awesome and would provide way more security than one of those cheep sheetmetal gun cabinets or even some cheap safes.

that's one of the many threads. Page 3 shows how someone used it standing vertically to turn into a cabinet of sorts.

^^^I was actually thinking we need something similar to that coffee table. Ive been stashing them around the house in not so obvious places bc I live in a fairly safe area, but would really like some sort of truly hidden storage like that.

Stack on 24 gun safe. I think it's something like 599 or 699lbs empty. Took 4 guys and a big hand truck to get it in. Bolted to the floor and only has a rotary dial. No electronic stuff to break or fail. Rated at 1500 degrees for 45 min.

Gun Safe

Gun collections should be stored in a gun safe, or otherwise locked. Not only to prevent them from being stolen (and then used on a victim), but to keep them out of the hands of children. I found my safe on c/l for $350.

When I built my house, I built in some "hidden" gun storage in spaces between wall studs in an interior wall with sections of wood panelling making the "cabinet doors" invisible. Worked great, but I recently bought a Patriot safe and moved the stuff into that, fire-protected, etc. 1880 F. Two hours....

Don't have a pic of mine handy but I have a 54 gun capacity (more like 30-40 unless all you have is single shot shotguns) its taller for more storage has either 90 or 120 minutes fire rating has a relocking mechanism if someone trys to break in it weighs just over 1000 pounds empty and bolted to the floor with 4 1/2" redheads..... best part is the girlfriend bought it for me...and picked it out. Bigger than the one I was looking at.

I bought a gun safe and installed it on a reinforced slab and then framed the walls around it. There is a sign on the door that all the guns displayed are air rifles

Nothing custom here, but I just picked it up over the weekend and am pretty excited about finally getting one.

An actual gun room would be awsome. Someone must have one. I would like to move one day and when that happens building a gun room is a priority. Not just a closet, but an actual reinforced, vault type gun room that is fire proof and accessible thru a vault type door.

I know a guy that had a house built and it included an 8x8 gun vault with a vault door. It is bad ***.

I have never seen one in person. I have seen lots of pics, but I always wanted to inspect one close up. I am sure the cost would be a bit high, but having a room that all you had to do was shut the door would be great. Right now I have to finish what I am doing then put it all back away so I can lock the safe. Sometimes I feel like stopping or taking a break and I really can't do that. I would like to get into reloading one day and a gun room would be ideal for that.

He said the actual room only added like 3k to the cost of construction, but the door was pretty pricey. He didnt give me a number and I didnt ask. He just had the walls poured when the rest was done.

Here is one for everyone to drool over. This was Charlton Heston's basement and a few toys he kept down there.

Often wondered about Temp and Humidity?

A room would...rock. :rocker:

This last house purchase, we were considering building and I had intentions to incorporate one. But we ended up buying a pre-existing house instead, so I never got to see that idea to fruition.

Temp would be easy enough to control with a vent drop from your ac/heater unit. For humidity, you'd need to spec a dehumidifier during the build process, and put in an outlet for it. Even for smaller metal gun safes, it's a good idea to get the battery powered dehumidifiers.

By the way, some of my favorites so far is the construction box conversion. Cheap and effective. And probably equally as secure as most "consumer grade" safes. Although, I have to say, I'm not into the zombie thing and the whole paint theme attracts people to it. If storing in a garage, you'd want it to blend in better I think. Still...bad ***. Thanks for sharing!

Also like the coffee table, headboard and entertainment center hideaways! I like having a gun in every room and then having the rest secured in a safe. Thanks for sharing these as well.

Keep the pictures and experiences coming -- I am enjoying this thread! :)

I watched my friends father build his retirement house. He built an attached 3 vehicle garage, the one was for his motor coach. Then he built what looked like a bank vault .... I wonder what this for ?
Home is completed and I'm getting the 5 cent tour. I looked all around and damned if I could find the room let alone the way in. I asked where is your concrete room and with a smile he opend a closet door. What ?? Towels and bedding, he moves the towels aside swipes a card and the hidden door opens.
I knew this man quite well and as I look around hmmm this room seams really small.
Did you sell all of your excellent collection ? He did have a wall with racks of rifles and pistols......NO ! And with that he opens another door into the rest of his vault.
He was quite the collector may he RIP

Yep that would work. I would never be able to sacrifice the space for that size unit or even come close to filling it. I love the vault door. Something the size of a walk in closet would be what I want.

Another issue with the one shown is charlton Heston is stinking rich where I am not. Thanks for sharing those pics.

I have a friend building one now. His door was about $7500 - purchase price, not including delivery or installation. I think they start around $6k plus and just go up from there.

You can get a new vault door for about $3k. The frame is a clam shell arrangement that bolt in and around the concrete opening.

I built my own steel gun locker (48x24x60) because I wanted a double door and am too cheap to pay for a nice one.
