I didn't notice that when I was looking at the 42 catalog,
If by "that" you mean the different adjusting mechanism than the adjusting mechanism that is on your hacksaw frame, I know. That's why I pointed it out. So that you would understand that K-D's production history included an earlier model than the one you posted. Most of us around here appreciate those kinds of details. It's part of the hobby. I was being helpful.
Even if i had known the other details, it wouldn't have changed my post.
So, if you had searched this thread on "K-D" or "KD" or "99" or searched the K-D thread on "hacksaw frame" or "99" in an effort to see if there was any info about your hacksaw frame before posting, and if you had found the other examples and patents and catalog excerpts about both distinct versions, including their production timeframes, you still would have posted a photo of your later model, and that "it" (or the No. 99 model number) appears in 1942, the oldest catalog you were able to find, ignoring posts from others already establishing that an earlier version of the No. 99 was patented in 1921 and appears at least as early as a 1934 catalog? That makes no sense to me.

All of us find out all kinds of things for the first time that we didn't know before. It's a massive complex hobby that none of us can possibly know encyclopedically. That's the power of GJ!

But, to each his own.

EDIT: Posting additional close-ups of the markings (both sides) on your later example would be helpful. I'm curious if it has the patent number or not.

^ The Willard is kind of a mystery. I already have it in the list with a notation "patent", but no idea what the patent was or what it might have been for, if one was issued to them.

Craftsman saw with marks that look like BF, but I'm assuming it is a mis-strike BE.

The bottom photo was posted on a Craftsman social account and dated as 1941. I have tried to find the whole thing or more information on what it was from without any luck.

I believe that it’s actually a BF as that code was used on Atkins supplied hacksaws if I remember correctly.IMG_4851.jpegIMG_4852.jpeg

I generally always pick up wood handled hacksaws that are tensioned with a threaded wooden handle. Some examples of those were shown in WW2 documents. I’m not sure that the Willard Saw Co is related to the Battery company. I did a quick search on eBay a found a few saw listings. There are no markings on the ferrule. IMG_2678.jpeg

I'm not sure if that was in reply to me or RJ, but the ferrule I was inquiring about markings was his hacksaw (in the middle of the lot he posted in post #286), not yours, and I don't think there's any doubt that the "Willard" on his battery pliers (#287) is associated with the Willard battery company (that's their logo) and NOT the "Willard" on your saw.

Yeah, I agree, but there is a bit of an anachronism here also.

There was a Willard Saw co listed about 1836, in NY, NY, assumed to be Simon Willard of Baltimore MD, an edge tool maker from 1817 - 41. This was assembled based on Patents, saws, and a Directory of Baltimore Plane and Edge Tool makers. From Hand Saw Makers of North America by E. Schaffer.

What bothers me is the pistol grip hacksaw seems to be a much later invention than 1836. There are also several other woodworking saws marked Willard Saw Co, and they look to be 1940+ vintage.

That Simonds saw is cool! I was just looking through an old catalog and saw these screw slot cutting blades. I didn't realize they made such a thing.
Funny, I was looking for cast iron file handles the other day, and saw that too. Was amazed I've not seen one in the wild after 20+ years of doing the old tools hunt.

I was happy to find this Union hacksaw at yesterday’s estate sale. Union has been my brand of choice for my GMTKs but I hadn’t seen one in this late war spec style. The evaporust did it some good.

This blade came off of the Union hacksaw. I knocked the rust off of it and discovered the Craftsman marking. What era is that marking, Craftsman experts?

Clemson Bros were selling Star hacksaws and blades here in Ontario from their Canadian branch office in Hamilton in the 1920s , but I don't know if my cast handle "star" saw was one of theirs

Found this one at an estate sale today. Really unique adjustment method and quite sturdy. No name that I could find, but I did not clean it up. I like it.

Here is an interesting one a buddy found at a tool sale. Anyone recognize it? Potential marking in the second pic. I just did a quick flip thru the thumbnails here, and nothing jumped out to match this.

Thanks

I have quite a few saws, but only a few old hacksaws. Here is an E.C. Atkins "Hoosier" hacksaw with a wooden handle. I don't know much about hacksaws but this one looked interesting to me. How the handle comes off & on & how the adjustment on the other end looks like the threads on a monkey wrench. I have no idea how old this one is? It's been laying around the garage for years.

Here is the two pages of hacksaw frames from the 1923 Atkins catalog. Looks like the "Hoosier" is model no. 1. I'm not sure how far back the no. 1 Hoosier goes.
