Right now, I have a lot of hammers thrown into a drawer but the inner tool nerd within me shudders each time I open the drawer. Is there a simple rack for hammer storage. A nice home made wall mounted rack would be nice. What have you got?

I have mine laid in the bottom of a drawer, but I am liking the thought of them being stored facing vertically which would take up much less room. Hmmmm

I have a up stairs in my shop. So I nailed 2 scrap 2x4s between steps going up and a support beam holding up the up stairs landing. Nail the 2x4s across from each other leaves a gap to hang your hammers through.

I was thinking a 2x mounted to the wall with a gap and slots to hold one of the hammer faces but I think I like that idea better. If the only staircase in my shop weren't lowered by a rope I'd be out there setting this up right now.

Something akin to this? Works well for me. Doubled up some 1x4 scrap, drilled appropriate size holes, and connected a handle.suppoet to keep each relatively level. I never have an issue grabbing one out, but if I were to do thos again I may have the hammer heads toward the drawer front.

Yeah, really depends on the space you've got I think: I'd love mine all hung on a wall as in some of the pics, but until I get a proper independent garage, it's going to be a head to toe job in a draw somewhere! Lol

I got tired of digging through lower drawers and wasting tool box space. A few plywood scraps, a handful of screws and less than an hour of fabricating brought about this hammer storage rack on the end of my main bench. Paint optional.

Yeah something like that, I was almost thinking about plastic dividers mounted to the back/front of the drawer of the drawer, similar to a pliers rack but instead of being laying on the bottom of the drawer, it is mounted to the vertical surfaces of the drawer. That way is doesn't allow the hammers to tip over, but you have free access to grab the handle. Only issue I see is the handles moving around and getting cluttered, which is what your idea solves.

4 or 5 in the tool box drawer, mainly the bigger ones. 2 on the tool cart, 1 on the shelf under the bench right under the vise, and 5 or 6 more scattered around the house/shed so I don't have to walk far to get one.

I store mine similar to Bogie, but use the 'old school' dish draining racks I get from Goodwill. I find a section that works and cut it out then just store the hammers with the heads facing down. I also use this method for some screwdrivers, pliers and adjustable wrenches. Hey, I'm cheap!

Made this couple years ago out of a old Rolling hanging file cart. Used some baking racks for the hammer holders.

I like the one a buddy of mine created a rack similar to WagonHo's, but he used 1x or 2x 4 as the cross runners, and just legs, not wheels, his looked 24" long, with a slot between the 1x4s, fixed width for all. Just drop any old hammer in there, anywhere.

This is pretty close, but his free stands on the floor, single row only

Mine are all currently head to toe in a pair of drawers. Not a fan, but better then leaning in a corner, like they were prior.

They don't get much simpler than this: Two lengths of 3/8" round bar and three braces made out of bent 1/8"x 1/2" strap, tacked together and held to the wall with six wood screws.

And note one little tricky bit- the rear bar is on top of the braces, but the front one is below- that lets the hammers hang at an angle, with the handles tilted in towards the wall.

That is F'ing awesome!

I have a board on a wall with my 8 or so most used hammers hanging for quick reach/use. (few ball peins, short hammer, favorite framer, my good body hammer and a couple mallots).

everything else is stored in a short filing cabinet.

top drawers for ball peen and smaller hammers, large bottom file drawer for the big and extra stuff...

Bumping this thread to share another idea. There is nothing fancy about it, but I just knocked out this simple hammer rack for the shop. A little scrap steel and about 30 minutes of my time equals way more space in my toolbox. I need to make another for one of the other benches.

I might have to give something like this a try. I like having some of my hammers in a tool box drawer.

My system differs, I have the heads neatly arranged in one drawer and replacement handles lying in another drawer.

YMMV

I will try to get a picture but I got a handful of used bathroom grab bars from a job I did. I was going to mount one on the wall and put hooks on it to hang extension cords, ended up doing something different for cords. But I took a 2x6 and mounted the grab bars to them. Then mounted the 2x6 to the wall. Works great. 50662.jpeg
