Sold an 8oz version of that plomb on Ebay for $37

Took a photo of a quirky little hammer whilst I was out in the shed.

Bought it quite a while ago. It was the handle which attracted me to that one as much as owt else.

A real nice (NOS) clawhammer from Tor. 20 oz.
Equipped with a nail holder. Enjoy.

Tire weight hammer? Not sure on this one.

Sawfiler's hammer.

What type of smithing work do you do GINIK? Looks like a very nice hammer.

I'm not a blacksmith. I just use it for work where I need a big cross pein hammer.
My biggest ordinary cross pein is 42oz. This one is 2kg= 70oz.
Well maybe I do some cold smithing sometimes...
This one is made by an old swedish company not in business anymore.
"Tors hammer".

Rivenn: those are some unique looking very old hammers. any idea what year they were made?

Ginik: i do like that Swedish steel you posted and i think i need to try and find a hammer with that nail holder.

Fretters: that is a very nice hammer and i agree that the handle has that "cool" factor look to it. nice color on that vise next to it.

Das Bump! LOLZ.

I took this week to strip, wire wheel and refinish a baby 8oz C'man ball peen I bought at the flea baack a week or two. Had a lot of paint and gunk on it.

Kept the green hammer finish paint of the head as much as I could, restained handle (faint Craftsman Professional Mechaic logo still there), and then put on two coats of satin clear.

Ready for another 30 years of use.

40oz big azz Plumb at bottom went in vinegar bath yesterday and needs a new handle and 32oz Fairmount is mid handle fitting.

Looks like a 16 oz finish carpenter hammer. Small head for tight corners and working trim and baseboards. I have my dad's in the shop at home. That hammer and a pair of his carpenter overalls never left his truck box except on the job.

Which one of my shown cross peins are you talking about?
The one in your link looks like a small (below 2kg) old style forging (blacksmith) hammer.
I don't have one of those. But I have a similar one. I can show you a picture if you want to see it?

I just meant the latest two. I have seen hammers advertised as "Swedish Pattern" with a square face and cross pein.

Ok. They must have been talking about forging hammers.
Ordinary cross peins don't have a square face.
Not in modern times anyway.
I hope this answers your question :).

I was more concerned that not one of his hammers appears to have ever hit anything?

I hope this one will satisfy your needs ;)
I usually only show restored or NOS hammers I have collected during years.
If you had followed my earlier posts, you would see some restored hammers as well.
The one below, I will not restore. :p

So this may be the oldest hammer known to man (I love these "modern science can't explain it ancient conundrums...):

Just curious... why do you say you would not restore this one? Is that crack in the handle okay for use (it looks rather bad in the picture)?
Or would just intend to never use the hammer, and leave it in it's cracked condition?
thanks...

Hi
It's not the handle.
I don't want chipping on my hammer heads.
Yes, I know I'm picky. :p
You could of course grind it down a bit,
but then it won't be in original condition anymore.
And who knows how deep the hardening goes...

OK, ladies and gentlemen,

I have looked and looked and looked, but I cannot figure out what kind of hammer this is or who the manufacturer is. Underneath the front, there is "PATD" and on the top, there might be some sort of hallmark, but I can't say for sure. Without further ado, Check it out-

Tire or rim hammer. The small end once had a rubber head pressed on, so you had a steel face on one side to use where warranted, and a rubber head on the other for no-Mar work.

Looks like the type of hammer with one side metal and one side is a replaceable plastic or rubber bumper for light duty work, and the plastic bumper is missing off yours.

edit: outlaw beat me to the punch

I always keep a couple of spare handles in low humidity (e.g. indoor), to avoid loose handles later on. Mostly in hickory and ash.
Table i oak. ;)
