i had used some orangy citrus/pumice gojo product for years and borax before that, but with recommendations for the kresto product on GJ, i gave that a shot. holy mackerel - kresto is awesome! has a very persistent smell - not too strong - of almonds i think, but it seems much easier on my hands and takes off ALL the funk in one application. great stuff.

Dawn and a nail brush for me, followed by regular soap. I never run out as I just steal it from under the kitchen sink, where there always seems to be some!

Borax powder and dish soap is surprisingly effective.

Ditto, surprisingly effective. Every shop I ever worked in had a circular, or semicircular wash basin with a foot pedal, and a powdered soap dispenser on top that was never, ever used. There was always a container of Gojo or whatever laying in the basin. Except for where I work now. We actually have good ole "Boraxo Original Powdered Hand Soap". It scrubs the heck out of the dirt but somehow doesn't dry out your hands. Best soap I've used in 30 years.

Coming from the bicycle industry... I really Like Phil Wood Hand Cleaner. It's a tan paste with what looks like wood pulp almost. I used it every day a couple times a day for years as a bike mechanic and it didn't dry out my hands like some of the others can.

One thing i always keep under the sink as well is good ole LAVA and a nail brush

Worx is a great powdered hand cleaner.......Snap-on Nitro-Gold works great as well. Both require water to work and clean like no others I have used

I am surprised not one of you guys uses the hand cleaner from Wuerth.

I have used just about every product mentioned above and its my opinion that the Wuerth cleaner is the best. Call me a ***** but it is gentle on my skin. German product of course.

Reinol hand cleaner is an awesome product too. Also a German product :)

Little hard on my skin, but very good cleaner.

Disclaimer, I don't sell hand cleaners.

After just a week of using most industrial hand cleansers my hands are a mess.

I like Dawn and Solopol. Made by Stoko, the same company that makes Kresto, but WAY better for your hands, made a huge difference to me anyway.

Also, the dryer your hands are, the harder it is to work the grime out. A little moisturizer goes a long way to reducing the amount of scrubbing later.

My old shop had to have smooth fast orange, because the pumice would clog the drains. It worked on just about everything except some kinds of paint. At my new shop, we use whatever is cheap. Usually fast orange or goop.

My dads uncle was a diesel mechanic and he used to use Tide powdered laundry detergent. He claims that it beats any other hand cleaner he has ever used.

I also have a bucket of "scrubs in a bucket" hand cleaner towels. I keep those in the truck when i don't have a sink. They work ok, but definitely not as good as just regular hand cleaner.

I used to use gojo, but switched to fast orange since I can get it in a bigger jug around here. As mentioned by someone else, I think it actually works better than gojo. ymmv.

Fast Orange. It was big in Murray's, (now O'Reilly's), a few years back. Got a couple industrial sized jugs, one for the basement, one for the garage. It does the job, but the orange can irritate the skin if you don't wash with soap afterward. The best stuff I ever used was Sta-Po. Don't know if it's made any more. My dad had a can in the garage when I was a kid. It was sloppy and reeked of ammonia, but worked, first time every time.

At work we have Zep Cherry Bomb. Works well but dries them to cracking in the winter time. I use Fast Orange at home because its cheap and smells better than the lanolin smell. I used to use a few squirts of WD-40 with Palmolive, with worked most of the time.

I've used Pow'rkleen by woodbine products for years. It works great. I have never heard of half the brands being mentioned. Must be a regional think.

Boraxo - the baddest of the bad. Cheap and simple, and incredibly effective.

This is what I use as well. The problem that I've had with it is trying to find it in the stores. I gave up looking for it about five years ago, and my daughters gave me a case of it for Christmas; which is probably a life time supply.

I like Dura Scrub its made by the people that makes Dura Block sanding blocks, its a bar soap like Lava but the soap is molded around a scrub pad similar to a scotch brite pad (but softer) the more the bar wears down the better it is, it smells great and doesn't dry out your skin but you do have to have water.

I use Palmolive dish soap, and follow up with Lava if I can't get all of it.

I love goop, don't like the gritty orange stuff on my soft soft hands.

I use ProSoap. It's available online and works great without drying out your hands.

It's very similar to the old Mac Tools hand cleaner.

Well I'm usually in the Dish soap crowd, but not Dawn. I use Joy. Why Joy? Because before they added the damn lemon, we used to use it in lab/clean room environments at work, as an easily and cheaply purchased soap that rinsed without residue. I "pure" soap.

BTW for you Dawn users, Both Dawn and Joy are made by the same company, and have the same ingredients last time I checked MSDS. Dawn costs significantly more, probably to cover the TV ads.

I'm 98% certain they are the same except for a blue dye in the dawn.
