Need some kind of light control that uses a small remote .. not line of site.

My new build is a converted church -- so the living room ceiling is over 30' tall. I'm creating a seating area (two chairs and a table) in front of the main gothic window under the steeple. There will be a light hanging from a long rod over the table. I had electric run to the steeple and my plan was to connect the light to some control up there that would work the light from a control that would stay on the table.

I tried one of the older Lutron IR controls .. but it too far. Have a simple wireless one button on/off control that I use in a few places in my NYC loft .... they work ... but they do not dim. They are the kind you plug in ... often used for xmas lights.

I can't put anything (like a typical dimmer) in the wall as the front of the building is exposed stone and the nearest plaster wall is far away.

Or X-10 devices which send signals over the electrical wiring.. Inexpensive but lack somewhat in reliability.

Don't know if you want to invest in a Philips Hue setup, but the wireless remote is very handy. One thing I'm not certain of is if the remote talks only to the hub or also to the bulbs. The newer bulbs include bluetooth so they could not require a hub. Of course if that's the case, you could also use your phone (locally) to control the bulbs. You can also get the bulbs that not only dim (a control option on the remote) but also color change (app only feature).
