I just got a new garage and have a corner spot where these would fit nice, I was thinking about getting 2 of these boxes and make a table out of them.

Has anyone done that before? Can they take some abuse from above, being a table?

Any pics of anyone's table top setups?

Here ya go:

wow looks good! What do you recommend for a counter top?
I would want to mount a vice to mine, sturdy enough?

Found mine on local Craigslist for $650 (top, bottom and side). All basically brand new with all the handles and drawer inserts still in boxes/wrapped up like new. Best money i have spent on tools for a while.

Also has there ever been a coupon for the side drawers or a better deal then $200? Is it worth waiting for something to come up or just get them for $200?

For those that removed the "US GENERAL" emblem. How did you remove the glue that's still stuck to the chest?

Mineral spirits would work but I prefer to do things the hard way and used a razor blade ;)

I've never seen any side cabinet (besides the small one that occasionally goes on sale for $149) for less than $199.

am i the only one that finds it amazing there are 65 pages of discussion on this toolbox? wow. i have one, and will say it is a nice piece for the price, but i do not know if it is worth 65 pages of discussion. anywho, carry on.

65 Pages devoted to "when to buy" more so than what to buy. Note the title of the thread was "Harbor Freight 13 drawer tool boxes $271.99" - seems that the lowest price this year has been $349.99.

Nonetheless - it is a screaming good DEAL.

FWIW,

I am still scouting the magazine racks, waiting for those October issues to arrive with the $349 coupons in them!
Dug through a zillion magazines today at Barnes & Noble, but none yet have the October ad with the $349 price.

I got a real kick out of the well-intentioned and helpful posts last weekend announcing that "the Sunday paper" had the coupon in it. Maybe so, but we don't all get the Sunday Oregoonian, or the Sunday Denver Post/Ombudsman . . .
It would seem that we're seeing the start of a mass advertising campaign with the $349 price, which probably signals a looming shortage of the 13 drawer boxes.

Mineral spirits to remove the excess glue.

I think the older model might have had a sticky adhesive which I can see how mineral spirit would remove it but mines used some hard clear glue that's rock solid. I tried some mineral spirit on a rag last night and it didn't do anything at all. Will have to try a razor blade tonight, hopefully i dont take off the powdercoating with it.

The US General raised logo on the front was applied with foam, double-sided tape. After carefully prying off the plastic logo, I used my wife's finger nail polish remover to get the last of the gooey tape and foam off. It worked beautifully.
