Just called my local HF and asked if they had the gloss box in stock since the part number is on the sale flyer. They do not, but they will give me a rain check for when they get them in so I can get the sale price. I'm stuck at work so my son agreed to go get the rain check for me. Anyway I wanted to let everyone know if you are waiting on the gloss box run down and get them to give you a rain check on the sale for this weekend.

Just picked up a second tool box. I like the new finish better, but would have rather had the old finish to match my old box.

Hard to tell from the picture (thank you just the same for posting it), but is the new red similar to the orangy red of their 56" box, or a more true red like most other manufacturers' reds?

Finally finished my box setup. It is filled with 50% Craftsman and 50% Harbor Freight tools. Craftsman stuff makes up ratchets & sockets, wrenches (with Gearwrench ratcheting wrenches), 1/2" impact and screwdrivers. Harbor Freight stuff makes up pliers, clamps, impact sockets, organizers, and hammers. I find it worthwhile to spend more money on commonly used and abused items and then save money on tools you dont often use.

Hmmmm..... I'm going to go with more like a true red like most other boxes.

It has been mentioned that the new red ones have a different part number. One could argue you did not get what you paid for.

true. i didn't know about the part # thing when i bought it. and, i wasn't expecting the new red paint. so, i ended up getting WAY more than i paid for, imo.

i wanted to get a 13drawer for my lathe. but it is to tall :(:(:(

The 5 drawer cart used to be the same wrinkle red as the 13 drawer chest. When I was there this weekend, they had the new 5 drawer cart with the gloss red finish. It was exactly like the 56" roller. The new part #'s are even named "industrial".

So my guess would be the new 13drawer chest will have the same finish as the 56" roller. They both now have the phrase "industrial" in the name.

I think I'll wait until HF gets this new finish rollaway in to see if the drawer slides are of better quality. Maybe. I looked at a 36" SS combo at HD tonight and it blows away the kobalt in value (kobalt is only a 26" for the same price) and the HF because of the better drawer slides. But the HF combo would be about 25% less (with coupon) than the husky and have a 6" wider box. Think I'll wait under spring. Around fathers day all the tool stores have insane deals.

Just looked on the website this morning and the wrinkle red cabinet (#90320) is now listed as "available in-store only". Sounds like the gloss red may be the only finish available going forward. Might have to hurry up and snag another wrinkle red box to match mine before they're all gone.:yikes:

The crinkle finish boxes will be replaced by the gloss finish.
The new item numbers will be:
Roll Cabinet 68784
Top Box 68787
7 Drawer Side 68785
Tall Side Locker 68991

My local store has already sold out of the crinkle finish.

i was told the same thing today. my local store (south jersey) is sold out of the bottom but still had a top and side. manager told me they where told to sell all the old finish before dispalying the new ones. he said they should be getting the new ones later in the week. sale flyer for jan has the new finish bottom for $389 and the top for $299 . i bought the 5 drawer cart today for $169 .the manager gave me the sale price from the weekend sale.will probably get the top and bottom box later. i think there will be coupons for the new finish like they did with the older ones. anyone trying to find wrinkle finish pieces 2 add to what they have better act quick looks like they will be gone soon.

The Pensacola store doesn't gave the gloss finish yet. I ran into the asst manager and asked him about it and he wasn't sure when they'd be getting them in. They did have the gloss 5 drawer cart. And coincedently, they had the old style 7 drawer side box where the pulls were in the center of the drawers.

I went into the New Castle, Delaware store last week and spoke to the manager about the 13 drawer chest. He said that all the ones they've been selling are the old dull red ones. Their only display model was one of them but beat to sh#t -- the drawers were bent, sagging and locked... and they lost the key so I couldn't even open it. I've heard all the glowing reviews about the quality of these boxes, but based on what I saw there (their bad floor model) there's no way I'd buy one, and I told the manager that. I guess I'll have to call around to the other stores and see what they have on display/can get on order.

I've witnessed first hand customers swapping there 'defective / damaged / beat to **** drawer with new ones from the floor model via the store manager so don't judge brand new in the box condition based off a floor model asshats have been ramming shopping carts into for years and that have a few swapped drawers from some idiot denting the drawers at home and crying till a manager buys his sob story about being defective when its more like the Guy dropped something on the edge or XYZ fell into the box and now he's scamming to get someone else to pay for his mistake.

I am glad I found this thread, I randomly was at HF and saw the 13 drawer and thought it looked interesting. Did a search and found this thread. Too bad I was late and now the price is $389. I guess I will just have to be patient for the next sale.

Sweet! I looked at that page and got so excited, but then read that you must present the original copy. Drove to wally world and looked for the magazine, could not find the Dec copy. BUT!

In the MUSCLE CAR REVIEW mag on page 7 you will see a HF coupon page. What is even better is I see that they include both the new and old version item code in their new coupon. AND it is valid until April.

See attached.

Has anyone else noticed that the new 13 drawer Harbor Freight glossy Item # 68784 roll cabinet only has a 475 lb. load capacity in the bottom description?

I think they mean shipping weight as the shipping weight entered is 1.00 lbs! As an aside, why does this one hold almost 1000 lbs more than the 56" model that has greater drawer weight capacities?

OK I'm just thinking out loud at this point. The 56" unit's 1958 lb rating listed is the sum of the drawer capacities. Has anyone else established how much a top box load this cabinet can take? What are the casters rated for? Maybe I should be posting this in another thread. Moderators please move this if a more appropriate thread is known of.

Sorry Nick, it's never going to be $271 again. That was two years, 10% better exchange rate, $1 less a gallon for fuel, 25% less for steel ago.

Even at $360, it's a bargain considering anything else at that price is junk, and anything from the name-brands that matches it is $1000+

Does anyone remember or have marked a couple of the threads where some GJ members used these as base cabinets for workbenches. I have Steevo's thread marked (which is awesome btw) but there were some others who posted great pictures and I have been searching but so far have come up empty handed. I am planning to do the same thing in my shop but was looking for some inspiration and ideas. Thanks.
