i just went to the idaho falls, idaho store saturday to buy the top and bottom box and tried to use 20% off coupon for the top box and they wouldnt accept it, i even made sure i had the coupon that didnt say not good for tool boxes.
but on the flip side i did get the bottom box for 349.99 i had the digital savings online super coupon for that..:) instead of 499.99 that they had it listed for... new corp. policy as of monday the 8th....

soooooo. nobody should be able to use the 20% off on any tool boxes and a few others (cant remember what the manager said).

Perhaps the attached chart may help put escalating HF prices into perspective. It compares the sinking value of the U.S. Dollar with the Chinese Yuan over the last decade.

That's about right.

HF's sales chart is soon to look like that too I imagine.

Exactly. Someone at HF gambled and I think it is going to be the wrong way. HF's customer base isn't loyal to the HF brand, they're loyal to the bottom dollar. So when you position yourself as the market leader in ultra cheap tools, and then your retail stock suddenly is at least 20% higher in price for the items people want, you're going to have a customer retention problem.

Apparently enforcement is uneven. I've been to one store that was strictly enforcing it and two that were business as usual. This was after 11-8.

Has anyone had luck printing out the coupon posted in this link from Farma11 for $349.99 and being able to use it? I plan on trying to purchase one this weekend but I need to borrow a trailer and I have about a 60 mile drive to HF. That 30 bucks is gas funding for me

Why not call the local store and verify they have enough in stock and that you can use the coupon? According to the stock guy at my local store they were selling fast and they were applying the super coupon no problem.

Yes, I was able to use it when I purchased the box at their Beaverton (Oregon) store.

Correct, 20% off coupons cannot be used for the tool boxes. Tool Time and I were referring to the "super coupon" for a $349 tool box bottom (post #601 in this thread.)

I did call one of the stores close to my area and they have a few boxes in stock and said they will accept the coupon for $349. I plan on heading to the store this weekend, I will let everyone know how I make out

Make sure your asking the manager. I've had the staff say no way, not possible. But then I ask them to find the manager and when he see's I'm ready to buy he easily agrees no problem.

The manager can pass what he wants, sure they're getting the talks in thier manager meetings, but it may depend on popularity of an item, amount on hand, amount sold recently, etc in each individual store as to how much the manager cares.. If he can't keep these boxes on the shelf at the typical $399 price, why go less if it's gonna sell anyway. If he hasn't sold any in 6 weeks he may let you take two or three at 271/349 or whatever. As those same manager meetings corporate say no coupons, they also hassle the store managers over their monthly sales numbers, stale inventory, and the like, so you just never know unless you try on any given day.

I find in general retail stores usually say no on the phone, or state policy only. But in person with a manager and cash in hand rules can be bent some.

I'm planning to buy two of these carts when they go on sale black friday weekend for $149.99.

http://www.harborfreight.com/mercha...rage-shop/five-drawer-service-cart-95272.html

Best part is that this price isn't with a super coupon, so the 20% coupon can be used.

Hopefully they'll honor two separate 20% coupons. $149.99 minus 20% = $119.99 ea.

If not, I'll just go through the checkout twice. :bounce:

I see HF finally posted the Black Friday ad on their website. I see the red carts are now gonna be $159...and no 20% coupons.

Well, instead of me buying two of these carts, I'll now be buying ZERO!

Oh well, carts were a want, not a need anyway. No Harbor Freight for me Black Friday.

Well, too bad for Harbor Freight, good for my pocketbook.

Has anyone successfully bought extra/different/replacement drawers for this from the HF phone tech support? I'm interested in replacing 2 of the shallow drawers with one of the deep ones.

33-1/2" without the wheels.

I had to fill 35-1/2" under my bench top -- it's a strong enough cabinet to do most of the support for a bench -- and I cut wood sections to go underneath and on top of the bench.

This is still very much in progress, but you get the idea:

BenchMaking1263783199.jpg

Jack,

What did you do to account for the HF side cabinet being not as tall as the 13 drawer when you mounted them to the floor or base? HF website says side cabinet is 33 1/4 H and you state 13 drawer cabinet is 33 1/2. Enough different to pose a problem mounted on a base or floor.

Thanks

Wow, I have this same exact setup! I just forgot how pretty a box/s it was! i'd like the top matching box, but really like the top of my roll cabinet to clutterup and put more stuff that I never use:headscrat!
dne'

Thanks to Brad for starting this thread. I'm in. Pick it up today for my birthday present. We'll see how it goes, I may add another 7 drawer end cabinet come spring. I guess it all begins now. Need to hook up the 10 kw heater, build the work bench and so on. Good times ahead.

I'm sure glad I bought these before the new coupon policy went into effect. I used the 20% off coupon on each box including the service cart. I have owned all of them for over a year with no problems and daily use. Just keep an EYE on the fliers and after the Holiday sales. I call it the great wall of china but it works for me and I'm not afraid if they get used and abused easy enough to change out if need be.

Sometimes I like the taste of charcoal and redneck it out in the driveway. Makes the neighbors think if I sane or not... I got a grill out back (propane) by the pool, but I spend most of my time in my humble but small garage...

i've been wishing i had got around to buying more sooner. my setup will be pretty close to yours when i'm done too. i've already got one roller and two side cabinets. just need one more roller and the 7 drawer. oh well, its not that big of price difference but it still would have been nice to save a little more on it. might pick up another roller today if i don't decide on a new tv instead

I just went through some papers that we had at the house and came across 3 $349 coupons. I know where I am headed this weekend.

picked up my box this morning, I was able to use the the coupon listed here for $349.99 without any issues. I was glad I called ahead, I checked Wednesday afternoon and the HF store close to me had 6 in stock. Noting being able to get back to my home until Saturday I felt was pushing the time limit before they sold out. I called again last night and they only had one left, they did hold the box until this morning in my name. The box will be home use and I will not be in it daily, overall I think this is a very fair price for the size. I want to say thanks to all for posting the coupons and all who have reviewed these boxes. I am very pleased.

Managed to pick up the 13 drawer with the $350 coupon and the side 7-drawer at $200 on sale today.

Went fine getting it home on my tiny Harbor Freight trailer. The unloading *started* to go well. We decided to unload it by putting a car jack under the rear corner of the trailer. Then I stood on the opposite back corner to make the trailer ****-heavy. My fiancee gradually opened the valve on the jack, allowing the trailer to lower like roll-back.

At first.

Then she though it ought to come down a little faster which, on that jack, basically fully opens the valve. The toolbox and I crashed to the ground while the trailer shot forwards at mach 5. Thankfully, it was stopped by running up the back of the car. :Freak:

So the lessons learned:
1) This is a reasonably good way to get a heavy load off that trailer if you:
2) Chock the wheels so the trailer can't shoot forwards
3) Don't try to go faster on the lowering. Any movement at all is fast enough.

Went to HF today. Not really for this cabinet but was looking for their 140amp welder. The welder is $399 and I was planning to use the 20% off coupon. When I gave the coupon to cashier, she said that they stop taking 20% off coupon for a couple items. Welder is one of those.

I then read the notes on coupon and couldn't find any restriction like that. Then I asked for store manager. He told me the same thing and showed me a sign in store which says effective on 11/8, all percent off coupon cannot be used on items like floor jack, welder, tool cabinet, ....etc.

Seems that there are no more deals like before...

I love this toolbox as well. I bought it back in January when this thread was first posted. The only issue I am having with the toolbox right now is the lower drawer on the upper box rolls out at random times. It is a deep drawer and it does have some weight but every drawer stays shut but that one. I know that the garage floor is a little uneven but all the other drawers stayed closed.

Any idea how to solve this issue? Seems like weak sliders on the drawer?

I love the side box as well but it only has one shelf in it. Has anyone found a source for more shelves or made their own shelves?

For my needs this will workout great, top or the side boxes will be on my want list and room for more tools! Again, thanks I would not have found these deals without everyones input. Now looking for socket rails
