I have a coupon for the red tool cart box for $169 and a bunch for the black tool cart box for $99. I can't decide which to get. I can get 2 of the black ones for only a $30 more than the red one but the red one seems to be much nicer. Thoughts?

The big one is a professional grade box. The smaller ones are for hobbyist.
Big one is very, very similar to the Blue Point with similar configuration.
The cheaper one is just that, a cheaper one.

Depends on what you want to do with it, I suppose.

Not to disparage those who like the smaller one. If you are working at home, it is a more practical size. Just in a shop, you would want the big one.

Dependent upon where you're located, there may be one in your Sunday paper insert.

the red cart is awesome, I use one in my race go kart trailer. The drawers have latches in them also do they don't just open. Very good in a trailer.

All I have is this teaser with pics from my phone on Saturday. I will post better pics later this week sometime. Got it set-up and I could not be happier. Just got my plastic socket trays today for the top drawer too and I am putting those in tonight

I'm looking to pick up a couple of these boxes to make a work bench for a little more storage and I was wondering if someone could measure their top drawers depth? I want to be able to put my Hanson 1/4" and 3/8" holders in them. I know the site says it is 3-1/2'' H, but I wanted to make sure that measurement was from the inside before I drive 90 miles to the nearest HF.

the top drawer has no problem even fitting the 1/2" hansen tray with room to spare.

I read on here recently that there had been minor visual changes to this box but now I can't find the thread. Does anyone recall what the changes were? I'm going to pick up another one next week and I need to make sure it matches the two I already have.

It was something about the drawer pulls in relation to the drawer fronts.

Sweet! Thanks. I called my HF and they only stock the new style. They have a display model which is the old style but it's kinda scratched up and is missing the lock. I asked about purchasing it but he would only come down to $320. I think I'll try to sell my old ones and buy the new style.

I have the $349 coupon, and the old style 20% coupon which says nothing about toolboxes. I doubt they will let me combine em tho, they just put this store up (Hempstead, NY) and they haven't let let me combine coupons yet. Exp date on both is 4/7/11.

It's rumored that HF has a special place in the back where they lure customers who try to combine or "stack" coupons. Those troublesome types are hit over the head and ground up to make that ****** Chinese soylent green cardboard.

Seriously, at $349 that box is still a great deal. I picked one up on Tuesday.

I noticed the red cart has gas struts on the lid... seems kind of a nice way to go.. no lid slamming down, ive been thinking about the red cart too.

the HF in Chico CA will NOT let you use the 20% coupon on the cart... NO way NO how.. i asked them to just go ahead and scan it, just to see.... NOPE ! You cant grab the scanner away from them or force them in some other way ... if they wont do it ... they just wont.

I might give a different HF a try... if i could use the 20% on the $169 price id do it.

I just finished talking to Tony, a manager in the Chico store. Concerning using the 20% coupon on the service cart. He said to call him and he will take care of it. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks! But getting huffy with a manager over something that has never been allowed is a waste of your and his time.

I just bought this tool box for $349.00 coupon, I tried using the 20% off coupon, it says on the coupon can't be used for roll tool boxes and big welders. I think it was marked down to $379.00, but I copied a coupon off here and they just scanned the bar code, worked for me, now I have to unload by myself, let the fun begin.:D

I bought mine with the $349 coupon I printed from here as well...it was a horrible reprint (my printer *****) but they accepted it no problems.

After having this set-up for about a week now, I have some observations about it. First, their power coating could use some improvement...the inner corners of the top chest lid don't have full coverage. Also, I had wanted to swap out the bottom two drawers on the top chest with a couple of shallower drawers from the roller cab...you can't do it. The drawers don't play well with the slides, and the detents are different. Other than that, I have no complaints about them yet.

Thanks for the review. Did you by chance notice if you would have any problems swapping drawers around in the roll cab? I know someone did it with the older design and I was wondering if it was still possible with the new design.

I didn't look into doing so, but I don't see why not. Everything is the same in the bottom cab (slides, detents, width and length dimensions of drawers), so you should be able to rearrange them. Same with the top chest. You just can't swap them between the two units.

If I were to take the wheels off and sit this on the concrete, should I put a sheet of plastic under it? If I do will the plastic cause it to sweat and maybe rust the bottom?
The reason I ask, I'm wanting to put it under a counter top, which will be an exact fit, if I had maybe a 1/4 of inch room I would put cedar shims to get it off the floor. My garage floor sweats sometimes and I don't want the moisture lingering on the bottom. Any suggestions?

I think if you shim it off the concrete even a quarter of an inch you'll be golden. Honestly I wouldn't have any problem setting it directly on the ground.

OK went out and unboxed the HF 13, and I guess its the new style that has the krinkle finish and the one lock for all drawers.
We had about a 60 degree temp change yesterday, went from mid teens to the high 70"s, had condesation all over the floor, it was wet everywhere. I took the wheels off so it will fit under the counter top, I put the bolts back in the holes and used them to adjust the height, it puts the bottom about 1/2" off the floor. I think this will work. Now I need to buy a dehumidfier.

Do you remember what the height was without casters?

Undercoat the bottom or put a smear of thick grease on the underside. It will attract dust and dirt but ought to keep the moisture off.
