Please, do not show up to Harbor Freight in a mini van to pick up a tool box. The freaking thing is on a pallet for a reason.

Fits fine in an Astro Van.
Unhook and remove seats behind front seats.
Get HF employees to remove wood crate from cabinet.
Have them put box on lift unit upside down and remove lid, uncovering wheels.
Slide in through side door. It is now sitting on it's top in the box with the wheels sticking up and uncovered.
When removing at home, slide out until it is far enough out, that when the edge of the box is lowered to the ground, the box will rotate out clearing the top of the door opening.
Now you have the box and cabinet upside down with the side edge (End) of the top on the ground. It is still enclosed by the box except for the wheels which are sticking up.
Rotate the cabinet out of the opening onto it's end and then from there onto it's wheels and roll it into the garage.

It's what I did.

You found someone that went WAY beyond what they were supposed to do. Policy is that we are not allowed to unbox/uncrate anything for a customer. Anything over 75 lbs is to have two employees load it or put it on the forklift or lift table. If the right person, upper management, seen them doing that, they would have been written up. You wouldn't get that at our store, and that from my SM.

I don't know about your store, but we don't have the room to display a lot of big items. Hell, we don't even have an air tool display. If a customer comes up to the register and asks for something big, our cashiers automatically ask what are you driving. They know if a customer is wanting something out the back, it's a big item 95% of the time. If the answer is not truck or trailer, they will be asked to return later with one before buying that item.

That is not true in 3 stores I have been to they have always helped me pull the crate apart and load into my SUV. Even a senior management guy that was telling everyone what to do said they would gladly help uncrate and load. Could it be just different by regions?

Possible, we got a new RM and he has some dumb ideas on what he wants us to do.

Wow, I'm glad I don't go to your store. Nothing against any employee, but those policies are a formula for poor customer service and the bad reputation that goes along with it. Is HF trying to hurt their business? :headscrat

The store I go to helped me uncrate it so I could inspect it, then helped me load it into my truck. They even let me help. The manager even told them to help me uncrate it. They have always been very helpful loading stuff, in addition to helping me find stuff, etc. I appreciate it and give them more of my business because of it. I'm planning on going again this weekend to buy the top box (finally on sale! :) ). If they hassled me about any of it I'd be unhappy.

My store is northern Detroit suburb. The manager had 2 employees do the work. They had a pneumatic lift to get it just the right height to slide it in. I didn't help except to make sure the van was cleared out. The went right at it like they had done it a million times before. They seemed to know it would just fit with the bottom lid off and sliding on it's back was the best way. The thick cardboard of the box and some thin Styrofoam protected it in all phases, and it was easy for me to unload once I figured that pinwheeling it out end for end was the way to go. They said they sell a ton of these and I saw dozens in the back room. It's not that heavy or as big as you think.

Worst case I would ask them to leave it in the lot and I would rip the thin crate boards off myself and flip it over, remove the bottom lid, set one edge up into the van, lift the other end and slide it in. Having 2 people would help with putting it in.

To be more precise I call it"Easy peasy lemon squeezy"!

Seriously, I outlined the steps in exact language so it is easily visualized since I don't have a video.

The pallet is there to provide a crushable cushion between stacks of pallets so boxes don't dent each other, and to provide a means for pallet trucks and forklifts to move stacks of cabinets.
Not necessary for transport home in a carpeted van. The box is thick, has reinforcing angles on the corners and foam sheets on the faces and top.

Seats remove by turning a knob and sliding. Mine were out already. Just pulled up to the door. On arrival home I just pulled up to the curb at the sidewalk at the corner, slid and tipped out the box, rotated it onto it's wheels and rolled it up to the house.

Only thing easier would been to have my wife do it!

It weighs 300lbs... Two small adults... No big deal putting it in a van or suv...

When I got mine they loaded it with a hydraulic lift cart... Took 3 minutes. Would of been no time savings if I brought my truck.

This isn't the first time I've mentioned it in this thread, but you can remove the drawers to make a big dent in the overall weight if you're by yourself.

Not everyone has a friend with a truck. Even if you do... probably they don't have time to come help. Why? They are moving their own or other people's stuff! :)

Also with these gas prices I'd rather use a van!

Home Depot always have trucks for rent at a pretty decent price. Even a small trailer rental from U haul isnt all that much.

we dont have a air tool display either, neither do we have all of the flats or etc... we have to modify every flat display to get it to somewhat fit and we still dont have a pumps table or a couple others...

This months Motor Trend has a coupon for the 13 Draw for $359. Good until 9/31/11. I think I am going to pick two of them up to use under my future work bench.

I've always wondered why the black box is so much more expensive than the red one. Everyone knows that red paint is more expensive than black.

I FINALLY got around to picking up a set of these yesterday. I used the track club coupons to get the top for $249 and the bottom for $349, so $600 for the set. Really pretty good quality, feels better than almost any other box I've seen since my search began....Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, Etc. Make no mistake about it, this isn't a SnapOn box, but it's also at least $5000 less. In other words, I can buy a nice project car with the saved money. Or 3 50+ inch TVs for the house. Or a new dishwasher, stove, and refrigerator. Or a decent pool table. Or a hot tub. Or......you get the point. The 2 people I know that have SnapOn boxes always talk about how they were suckered into thinking it mattered what that little label said on their box, and I kinda feel the same way. Maybe if I had to move it around a lot, I'd feel differently, but I just don't see the point for me. Here's a few pics that may interest some owners-to-be.....

In the truck so you can get an idea of the size of the bigger box. The small box is already out..

Packaged with thin styrofoam all around, the box is wrapped with plastic wrap to the pallet and then strapped down. Not SUPER secure, but fine for me. If it looks like it's been mistreated maybe inspect it before you leave....

This is the pallet it was on. The risers go up into the box and the wheels keep it from falling off the pallet, then the plastic wrap was around the box AND the pallet...

Here's the top box, which I simply let hang over the end of the tailgate, then got under it and let it slide out onto the ground. I laid it down on one of it's sides. I had no problem holding it up, I'm about 5'10" 220, average strength for my size. Can't imagine anyone not being able to do it unless you're really small.

I actually got the bottom off the same way, but it was a bit rougher. I brought it off wheels (pallet) first. Didn't really have any major problem with it, but if you think you might not be able to do it, you can't; so don't try and hurt yourself, get a friend or an engine hoist.

229485_10150180794935740_730590739_7591224_5187869_n.jpg

To get it into loading position onto the bottom box, I put one end on a jack, lifted it as high as possible, then lifted the end still resting on floor up onto my bench (about 38" high) I then lifted the end off the jack and pushed it onto the bench. I laid two pieces of cardboard from the bottom cabinet's box onto the bench first so it would be slick enough it would slide and not bind.

227184_10150180792915740_730590739_7591189_2981946_n.jpg

I then cut all the packaging away (top was packaged the same as bottom except there was no plastic wrap) and pushed the bottom box up to the bench and locked the wheels. Then I simple walked it back onto the bottom box a few inches at a time.

After that I simply bolted on the handles, 2 allen bolts per handle. I put 2 on the top box, and one on the bottom box. Pretty straight forward. Hope this helps somebody. It'd be a little faster with a second person, and maybe safer if you're worried about sliding them out of your truck, but I wouldn't have a problem doing it alone again. Took me maybe 30 minutes.

Nice! I picked up the same combo on Sunday. The top box has what looks to be excessive powder coating on the top front. I may have to swap it but overall I could not believe the quality for $600.00. Great product for a great price.

Look nice and I'm assuming that yours have the krinkle finish. Had the Omaha HF guy say that they were switching over to a smooth red finish. Any of the HF guys on this board know if that is true and if so, when? Have the red tool cart with the smooth red finish and would like to have one or two of the 13 drawer cabinets to match. Thanks

Yes, mine are krinkle. I like the finish myself, it seems like it won't scratch very easy.

As far as the coupons, my store wouldn't let me use them without a card. So I just bought one. It was like $20 to save hundreds, so I figured it wasn't worth whining about.

used code shop 20

but here the kicker, it only works if you have 2 items in the cart. so i added a clearence item

shipping came to $13

not sure if anyone else noticed this but this also works for the 13 drawer roller. makes it $320. you can print out the price page and bring it to the store to save on shipping. can't say for sure they would honor it but i don't see why not. i'm kinda bummed cause just two days ago i ordered a new gun and i think if i knew about this i'd be picking up a couple of them instead. figured i'd let others know so they can try it out though

Is that a typo on the black box saying capacity is 475lbs while the red is 2900? Also do any stores stock the black one. If its the same price i'd like the black but shipping kinda kills it.

NM, i saw where it said 2900 at the top.

Score another one one for the shop20. I went in with 2 print outs showing the 13-drawer cabinet and the 7-drawer side cabinet. Manager didn't have any problem matching the price and simply coded the change in the computer to Internet Price Match. They didn't have a the side cabinet but I was able to find another store a few miles away that had them in stock. Went down there and manager price matched it without any issue.

I didn't have any help with me to unload it but utilized my engine hoist and a couple of ratchet straps. Came off the truck without ANY hassle!
