Can't wait to see it with the countertop installed. I am looking to do a very similar setup. Just wondering why we are using the feet instead of just locking the rollers and attaching the countertop to the wall and cabinets? Looks great!

I got one wall of my tool cabinets all put together and height adjusted. On top of this will be a full length countertop.

Here is a shot of the feet. Notice that I welded on a 2" square piece of tubing to the bottom of the cabinet. I did this as I wanted more height.

And last, I took all of the guts out of my lift control box and have them mounted behind and in the cabinet under the air conditioner. I have purchased a four button "crane hoist pendant control" (wired remote control) that I will wire up via a long coiled cord to control the lift.

I am waiting on HF to get in more of the tool cabinets to complete the opposite wall. Hopefully they will come in this wee so that I can get the countertops ordered.

Paul,

I'm stealing your idea . . . Well done there my friend!

The countertops will sit on top of the raised edges of the boxes. With a thickness of 1.5", that makes the work height very tall. The adjustable height feet allow me to lower the boxes 2" from the original height. That plus .5" for the raised edge and 1.5" for the countertop will put the work top at the same height as it started with casters.

The second reason for me is that the adjustable feet allows me to get each box exactly level and square with each other. My floor is definitely not level or flat. Getting them level and square is important for not only the top but it allows all the units to be bolted together.

That full wall of cabinets really looks great.

And you will never run out of drawer space. :)

(It's nice to see someone else with a sensible-budget approach to cabinets, a not-quite-flat tiled floor, and a less-than-2500 pound race car.)

Paul,
Does the mcmaster part number you used (62805k43) fit the thread pattern already on the box? Being vertically challenged and not having a welder I think I would be fine with it being a bit lower - 36" or so? Thanks

Looks very nice, Paul. Please post again after you have the counter installed. It looks even better than I imagined. I was considering putting the 7 drawer side boxes between each unit, but I like the way yours looks better.

My mcmaster feet have a 5/8" bolt which is MUCH bigger than the metric threaded holes. I don't know what thread size the holes are but they are drilled through a single piece of angle and I wanted the load spread out across both angled supports.

And you will never run out of drawer space.

BTW, I will need more drawers that are deeper than those in these cabinets and I've got a good idea of how to accomplish this. I'll post back how this goes. Should be interesting. :)

i thought about that too but realized with as much drawer space as you're getting with the main boxes that having a few small cabinets for some larger stuff would be nicer over a couple more drawers

That looks great! I have lusted after a full Lista setup myself, but realized that it would cost about the same as a fully built race car. These boxes seem like a great alternative, but unfortunately we don't have Harbor Freight over here in Europe.

Are there any special markings on the crate they come in or a other clues like a model number or something? I bet that there are a few manufacturers in China that make them for HF. I might as well order a full container directly then....

I am now thinking of getting one more 7 drawer to complete mine.

That looks sweet! That service cart looks nice as well. Were did you get the countertop?
Does anybody know what the current price is? Noticed Reggie said they are now on sale for $339 plus coupon? Anybody verify this? HF is about a 1 1/2 hours away. Thanks

Do you need the paper or is that the regular price in store? I might pick one up for $320, sounds like a great deal!

Just called the store and it is $399. I have about three weeks before I need to make a decision. During the sidewalk sale do they normally put other items not in the flyer on sale? Noticed somebody said they were told that they would be back on sale during the sidewalk sale.

I've got all summer to get these since I don't expect the garage will be completed until Fall. Hopefully they will go on sale again sometime soon. They really look great with the counter tops. Sweet.

A friend of mine wants one of these and neither of us can find a sale ad with the box for $399. The local store has the $499 price on the box (checked yesterday afternoon). Can anyone point us to an online flyer?

I just called my local HF and they said it was on sale through March 25 for $399.00. Don't forget to locate a 20% coupon.

I'm not at a point where I need these yet, but would like to do something like lining the wall as in the pics a few pages ago.

My question is, if I don't need them yet... does anyone think they will go down to the $271 on a sale again in the future??? Or should I go ahead and snap some up before the 25th because they're not likely to go down anymore?

BD1, glad to hear another person has seen them on sale during the sidewalk sale. I think the $399 is kind of a standard deal -Robbo.

Used for $400, I guess this seller is not a GJ reader

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/tls/1635038236.html

"I bought this box at Harbor Freight on October 30th 2009. I thought I would need it for work but I bought my uncles box the next day because it had everything I needed in it. I was going to take it back but never did. Anyways its a brand new box that I paid 530 for and I am selling it for 400. I still have the receipt for it. The drawers are high quality and will hold a lot. It can be used in a repair shop or at home. Go to harbor freight and look up item 90320 roll cab and it will come up. You can buy all kinds of add ons to make it bigger but it has plenty of room as it is."

anyone actually use these?

ha. i had mine for 2 years of 3-4 hour weekday and weekend use.

the struts on the top box lid went out within a year,

the top drawer in the bottom box sagged from the weight after a year it rubbed the frame.

whatever keeps the drawers " clicked shut" failed within a year also on 2 drawers.

and do not spill any thing remotely close to a chemical on those cheap rubber mats.

i junked it and bought a 8 year old snap on box that operates flawlessly with twice the weight in it.

its a good bang for the buck for very light duty use, anything more than that its junk.

I think that's the first negative review I've heard about the HF box. I agree that it pays to just get a used truck brand box.

You really bought a toolbox for 3-4 hours/day, 7 days/week use from Harbor Freight? There isn't a single thing they sell that I would recommend for that.

With that said, the initial quality vs. price of these is outstanding. I've got 4 of them and need 2 more. Now if my local HF would get two more in so I could order countertops...

I have used mine a couple of times since I got it. It has worked great. I went today to pick up the top and they were out. Not even the local warehouse had any. I got a rain check and will pick it up later.
