It's not just about losing them.
I have lots of 10mm sockets and wrenches, generally they're all different types and come in handy.

Wobble, swivel, universal, magnetic, extra deep, deep, shallow, extra shallow, semi-deep, impact, chrome, open end, box end, angled, ratcheting, long, short, etc.
Right, most if not all of us here have various tools in 10mm as well as other sizes. But that's not what the long running joke is about, it's about 10mm's (usually sockets) tend to get lost because they are so commonly used.

For me, if a tool gets used often, chances are higher that I won't misplace them. For all these people who actually loose 10mms or other sizes that often, I'm sorry to say but they are careless & unorganized.

All these companies/brands selling these 10mm sockets sets are going with the joke that they get lost, bundle replacements for those who loose them.

In the link I posted, Olsa is saying 100 sockets is a 1 year supply. Who knows how they come up with these kind of figures (again I know just it's just part of the joke). So if a person working 5 days a week manages to lose an average of 2-3 10mm sockets a day that person has far more other issues to worry about.

Ya'll got issues! 😂

Unexpectedly, I don't use 10mm all that much anymore at work. I use 8mm, 11mm, & 13mm far more often.

Yet another cool 10mm set and they come with a socket rail. For all of us careless, unorganized losers of sockets :ROFLMAO:

I have the Kobalt set--which I bought almost exclusively as it was foamed for my mini toolbox. I've managed to already lose three of them--and most of those were on a job simply putting the casters on a new toolbox (despite being a "new" Craftsman USA, which is still technically Waterloo--the bolts are all 10mm).

Oh no. Now I want to go out and buy full sets, in SAE and metric, of each style... Just in case!

Yes you can..... well it would be for me anyway. ;)

I get the whole 10mm thing but I have never lost a 10mm socket, wrench, or whatever in the past 30 yrs or so. :dunno:

I've only lost one tool, ever. And, I'm still in denial and waiting for it to show up. Was a Craftsman flare nut wrench, part of a set. I was doing a brake job on my parents' old car (~20 years ago?), on their driveway, and just threw everything back into a bin when I was done, haven't seen it since.

Ironically, Dad (retired machinist and toolmaker) taught me to be WAY more meticulous about cleaning my tools and putting them away properly. Figures that the ONE time I was working on HIS car, I goofed and lost the tool...

Still, I can't figure out where it could have even gone.

I honestly can't complain about Pittsburgh tools. Fugly, but dirt cheap, and I haven't broken any. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough?

Mike

Me neither. I cheaped out and bought Pittsburgh when I wanted a unified, pretty extensive 1/2 metric socket set in standard (and probably deep here soon). I found they fit fasteners better than most of my vintage sockets (esp. Craftsman) and they appear to have Flank Drive.

Also, they are among my best when trying to read the sizes. HUGE letters. I'm thinking about adding some paint to the sizes to make them even better to read.

I'll use this to buy some odds and ends--tractor's getting the Demolition Wrench. Spud wrenches are my favorite multipurpose wrenches, but the pry bar is probably better as a pry tool than the spud (which I also use to align implements to the 3 pt.). Also, I think it has a hammer.

What are you using the 11mm for?

Trust me, I know. I was joking, I'm not actually going to go out and load up on tons of tools that I'll probably never use.

But, I hate buying single tools, I tend to always buy sets when I DO need something. Except for stuff like extra large / specialty sockets for axles / hubs, etc.

I once tried to explain here why I prefer to buy sets, and truly believe they're a good investment (if nothing else, saves time when you need a different size down the road). Apparently, the word "investment" triggered someone, who got in my face and started an argument over it, said I should buy individual tools, and save the tool set money and invest it instead.

Well of course, that probably makes mathematical / financial sense, but that's not why I buy tools. I'm not expecting them to grow in monetary value, their value is in the time they save, which as we age, every minute becomes more valuable...

That would be closer to two sockets per week, not two per day. Two per day would be more like 500 sockets per year.

I lose them , but they typically show up after a few days, so are they really lost?

Also, if one works in one bay or location, it’s a lot harder to “lose” tools than if you’re working between two or three buildings, or even only different work areas in the same building. I certainly wouldn’t be so bold as to make the statement that one who loses sockets is disorganized and careless.

They’re just tools, after all…a means to an end. Consumables.

Sometimes the socket falls into the engine compartment and disappears into the void never to be found again. It's great to have another and not break into a full set to get one.

Sometimes you need 2 to hold both sides :ROFLMAO:

Sometimes you find it years later and sometimes you find sockets or wrenches on cars you've never worked on before. No one is perfect.

If you see one of these in your travels or own one its worth $319 + tax to return the bottle jack part to HF, there is a recall. I bought one new years ago at a heavily discounted price and returned it recently. No receipt is needed, just the bottle jack, they call it the Hydraulic Ram.

Took my bottle jack in today, and got $337 back in gift cards. I'm gonna pick up the 4-ton bottle jack (very close to the same dimensions) and make it work with the lift.

Today only! I feel like this is a BS coupon but I'm posting it in case anyone is interested. The hat is $6.99 when not on sale. They should give them away perhaps with any purchase but this is after spending $40. If I was buying something I needed I'd take the hat. The hat represents 17.5% of $39.99. I'd rather have a 20% off coupon. </end_rant>

Yeah, I've done it.

Last one was an 8mm Snap On 1/4" socket. Lost it working on my aunts Ford Escape. No f'ing idea where it went, dropped into a dark cavity and dissappeared.
