How strict are they on the "one coupon per person per day" bit? I have like 5 things I want to grab, do I need to load up the car with friends and family?

What I do is I go 2-3 times a day at different times and go to different employees each time. They don’t check to see if I’ve already been in that day and always apply the 30% discount. I managed to get every icon set of pliers under $20 this way during this sale!

Another option is if you have a good relationship with an employee they will sometimes let you do multiple transactions for 1 item.

The register, even if you give your phone number, does not track how many times you used a coupon in a day. If the cashier allows more than one item or doesn't recognize you a 2nd or 3rd time you're golden. You can even go to another store, it's not tracked. You can even use a coupon in the store & then online(as long as its not single use). I've never tried multiple online orders in one day with "one coupon per person per day" but it might work :ROFLMAO:

I'm a HF rookie. I've gone a few times recently and it's growing on me. I read that when they warranty tools, they pull it out of a set, and then put the set on clearance for a discounted price.

Can anyone give me tips on shopping for these? If I'm going to HF regularly anyway, I figure I should be looking at wherever these clearance tools are for some good one off deals.

But I also assume coupons dont work on clearance, and coupons are time-specific anyway and clearance is a one off item that won't be there the next good coupon.

I dont know how good these clearance prices are, I'd be skeptical if they take one socket out of a set of 25, drop the price 10%. But if I wait for a coupon I could get the new full set for 20% off. So unless the clearance prices are like 40% or more off on a wrench or socket set, doesnt seem worth it compared to new + wait for coupon.

Can anyone share clearance split set tricks or suggestions?

I go to HF often, and always check the clearance shelf/rack. Often it is like you say, a set with one size of something missing, but it's also open box stuff, scratch and dent stuff, etc. The markdowns seem arbitrary, and I've watched items continue to get reduced until they disappear. I've also bought things and pulled 4 or 5 price stickers off all stacked on top of one another as they kept marking it down.

I don't have any tricks or suggestions other than just keep yous eyes out for what feels like a deal. You can also use the HF Price tracker to look at the history of an item to see how often/cheap it had gone sale in the past to determine if it's worth it.

i'm pretty sure I've used discount coupons on clearance, open, and 'on sale' items despite what the small print might say. I think I'll use the 20% on the marked down $9.99 4.5" grinder tomorrow for instance and the 15% on their marked down 6" chop saw.

FWIW: there's clearance items, and an 'open section' in the store. Clearance are all over the place but you can get an idea by going to hf website and just typing 'clearance', nothing else. Open box are typically in one or two locations in the store (way in the back and up front by the registers)

Eyeing the 56" roller/box... it seems the 'best' deal is to try and get a 25% no exclusion coupon. I haven't ever gotten one despite a few windows of time when I haven't shopped there in a while... any other ways to get that or does it ever come out during the year? July 4th maybe?

Everything is tracked. They just don't particularly care yet. That's why I never give a number and only pay in cash....unless I want to be tracked for the purpose of getting another 25% off no exclusions coupon.

I have a credit card that gives me 5% cash back(CB) on all home improvement (Harbor Freight qualifies) up to $500 in CB. Sounds like your method of anonymity leaves cash on the table.

Yes, everything everywhere is tracked and listened to. Its just a question of when they decide to get granular. Then you won't be able to go in 3 - 4 times a day to get free snap ties or micro cloth. It'll truly be a sad day.

You think everyone has a card that gives 5% back on home improvement? Name it.

Serious question: What is bad about being tracked by Harbor Freight or any other retailer for that matter?

I created multiple accounts with fake names and fake phone numbers. I cycle through what ones I give them, to try to incite a "we miss you" coupon. I find the whole tracking everything marketing loyalty thing to be scummy so I dont mind gaming the system.

I was going to use this, but received some bad news that put a damper on tool purchase. I hope someone can use it before it expires tonight.

If I am reading this correctly, this is 15/20/25% off the sum total of the qualifying tools purchased or off a single item from that purchase?

The sum. If you bought two (2) $70 items and two (2) $30 items for a total of $200 before discount, they should take 25% off the total of the four, and charge you $150.

It's off everything. I bough 6 Icon tools and got 25% off everything.

It's a weird promo. In the past, they've given 25% off ONE SINGLE tool, limit one, absolutely can't use it more than once in the same day, my local staff were clear.

Now, they're saying if you want 25% off you need to buy at least four, but feel free to buy as many as you want. Now they're encouraging you to buy more.

TBH I think it's an terrible coupon. Up till recently they had 20% off Icon coupons on a regular basis. I'm not motivated to buy anything Icon with these and I hope others do the same unless you needed 4 Icon items at this time and then it's a great deal since 25% off doesn't happen often.

Yeah, I hear you. I wonder if those were only when rolling out the new line. Unfortunately a lot of what HF used to do with coupons doesn't happen anymore. I used to always pull up a % off coupon when buying anything... no more. Also tough to watch the prices now (like that lift cart) much higher than they were before. Oh well - don't want to detract from this thread too muh!

That hydraulic cart went up quite a bit from when I bought one. I used to subscribe to Pop Mechanics and Pop Sci just for the 20%-25% off on anything coupons.

Most things have gone up significantly since 2015. A top end 2015 F150 was $60K, now a top end 2024 is $90K.

Serious question: What is bad about being tracked by Harbor Freight or any other retailer for that matter?

It is sometimes detrimental to you in an algorithm where they are maximizing their profit, Not necessarily harbor freight.. but lets say a large hotel/travel booking site.. once you searched a specific date range for a future trip and check a few times... try a different browser , mobile device or incognito mode or vpn and you may get different prices. Worse yet that booking site is the backend for some airlines and other sites and the cookie is shared across the sites - many people don't notice the coincidence of a date or region search. A retailer may not issue you some coupons because they know you will shop there anyway.. It's the way things work these days.

Nothing really, except you will get additional advertising sent your way. If the 'tracker' sells your information you will get that advertising from lots of other places. If the databases are really good the advertisers will be able to put everyone in your household together and really focus what they try to sell you.

Also, when insurance companies get involved, your purchasing habits can influence your rates and coverage. If you really think about it, you can really predict your habits based on your online activities and habits.

Here is a ten year old article about how Target predicts pregnancy.

As an annecdotal example, I used a credit card two years ago to purchase something online from home depot. Now, anytime I use that credit card in home depot, even in the self checkout, I get a text and an email asking me to review the product I just purchased.

I was getting the same behaviour from harbor freight, so I while I still get texts and coupons from harbor freight, I use a different phone number when I make purchases ( and that person, whom I don't like and signed up for an account gets all of those nagging emails and texts ). As a comical side effect, I get non stop 25% off come back coupons. I will eventually use one for something and start the whole process over again.

FYI: The 30% off under $10/20 coupon this weekend stacks with the Instant Savings discount.

The (in)famous $14.99 Warrior angle grinder is currently on Instant Savings for $9.99, which brings it down to $7.00.

There's no algorithm except for the no exclusion coupons. I get coupon weekly & have been for years. It's most likely your email provider and their spam settings.
