Anyone have a coupon for the 1000# Mini Mover's Dolly (61899/93888/60497). Thought there was a decent one floating around but can't find a current coupon.

Are these casters remotely suitable for short term use under a 3500lb car? I don't mind adding lumber to beef up.

It may be pushing it. I haven't had any issues with flat spots on the one's I use for storage, but I'd say they are only supporting 400-500 lbs max. Reinforcing the wood would be a must though, otherwise they will just collapse in the center.

The actual wheel skates can be had for around $40/pr.

What's the best price on one of the auto dimming welding helmets? Any good coupons or should I just use the 25% off?

Is the HF auto dimming welding helmet any good?
I am just learning to use this light MIG welder I got, and I think the auto dimming feature would be helpful.

I have one and it works OK for MIG and flux core but sorely lacking for TIG. I found a Jackson SmarTIGer helmet with Balder technology for a little over $100. Here's Amazon's page:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BFJLRD4/?tag=atomicindus08-20

More than twice the price of the HF helmet but hey, it's my eyesight.

I only have a little arc welder, Y'a know one of those little $100.00 welders,
and a Little MIG with the Argon tank.
Most likely will never get/do any TIG.
When you say
"but hey, it's my eyes" ...........................are you saying the HF helmet is dangerous to our eyes?
Again, this is just for the little MIG, and possibly the little buzz box.
Thanks,

Thanks,
Didn't mean to hijack this thread. I don't consider the HF helmet dangerous. I've been using the HF helmet for MIG for 5 years with no problems. When your eye doctor puts drops in your eye for an exam, the pupils dilate and it makes your eyes hypersensitive to light. The pupil in my left eye is permanently dilated and very sensitive to light so I bought a better helmet when the TIG left me with white-out vision. You might not have any vision issues "but hey, it's my eyes" so I don't mind spending more on a helmet.

I see, OK thanks Bob

I see there are 4 or them
http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=Welding+Helmets
wonder if the most costly one they have is the best?
Or are the others OK.

I have Item #46092 http://www.harborfreight.com/adjustable-shade-auto-darkening-welding-helmet-46092.html. I have the HF MIG welder and this helmet works great, it was on sale a while back for $39.99 and picked it up. It works great for me. You can adjust the darkening speed on it, I didn't play around with it much, just set it according to the directions that it came with and it seems to work fine. Use the 25% coupon and get it for about $38 plus tax.

Guys in the shop have those, they are absolute junk. Northern Industrial and Metalman have some much nicer build ones for about the same price. The plastic on the hf ones is flimsy junk.

Anyone have a coupon for the Predator 8750 Peak/7000 Running Watts, 13 HP (420cc) Generator for $499? I saw a recent coupon for $549, but I think approximately a year ago I saw one out for $499. Thanks in advance...

VMInnovations currently has the westinghouse 7kw running for about $620 (search slickdeals for the coupon). For your extra $90, you get:
battery, wheel kit, cover, 240->120vx3 cord, break-in oil + funnel, 3 year warranty instead of 90 day, and a generator that you can get parts for. Very worth it, I think (honestly, just the extra accessories or the extra warranty alone are probably worth it). Not sure if it's still available, but Costco also recently had a 7KW dual fuel champion for around $700, which has most of the same perks as the Westy (minus cover, cord, and 1 yr of warranty) but also can run off propane. Both are still chinacrap generators, but their importers do offer better support than HF. If you get the predator, I would *definitely* buy a warranty (they'll just replace it if it breaks - you still can't get parts after the warranty is up). FWIW, I went through the generator buying process about 9 months ago and ended up with a Smarter Tools 7.5KW for about $520 (I combined a $650 deal with a 20% off gift card deal to get a *VERY* slick deal), which is in a similar class price/perks/warranty/quality wise to the Westy and Champion. I have contacted their support department once with a question about replacing the oil plug with a hose, and received a prompt and knowledgeable reply. Champion and WestProPower (sells generators under westinghouse name) have similar support. None of these generators make clean enough power (they have a high THD / distorted sine wave) that you should be comfortable powering sensitive electronics (computers, modern furnace / fridge, washer/drier, etc.) with them regularly, but if you only do it for occasional use during outages, you'll probably be fine.

Lowest I have.

Thanks! That's better than the $549 one I have!

Thanks for the advice and deal! Just curious, but where did you end up purchasing your Smarter Tools unit?

90 amp welder any good for welding work under the car? or should I get the real manly hobart?

Mine seems to work just fine, once you get the thing dialed in for your particular job, it welds pretty well for a $100 welder. I mean its not the fancy name brand Chinese stuff but it does just fine, no need to buy the overpriced stuff that is unless you have a pocket full of cash burning in your pocket.

I don't use my welder very often so I didn't see any reason to spend $500+ on a welder that sits in the shed most of the year to be used a couple times within the year.

The 90 amp only has two settings, and it's 110v. I went with the 170 amp because it's 220v and has four settings. Only $165 + tax with the coupon.

Never knew HF had a 220V upgraded model. I will have to look next time I'm there, only issue with that is, then you are more limited on where you can plug it in at. My shop that's not a problem, but for some people it might be.

Course if I was a professional welder, and did welding jobs every day I'd certainly look at a brand name welder, but for the occasional use I need one for, the HF models work just fine. I had one a few years ago, and loaned it to a "friend" who moved back east and took the welder with him. Pretty sad when you run off with a $100 welder, this is one reason I don't loan out tools anymore, and if I do its the cheap HF stuff so I don't feel so bad. The one I have now seems to be better quality, its still the 90amp, but it seems like I'm able to weld for longer periods of time before it gets hot and shuts off which I haven't had happen yet, the other one I had I was lucky to get 5 minutes out of it before it would shut down. This last one I got for $90 with a coupon. The first one I got for $99 LOL.

Amazon. At the time, you could get Amazon gift cards for $20 off $100 when Meijer ran their Santa Bucks promo. They have since fixed the loophole. So far I have put ~17 hours on it an I am fairly satisfied. I honestly thought the extra 500 watts was probably just a lie (I mean, these all have 420cc engines), but in reality it can produce just a tad more than rated. I suppose it must have a higher compression ratio than the 7kw models or something. Makes me wonder if the 8kw 420cc generators can really hit 8 (and if modders can get these engines up to 20+ HP, where is the 10KW version)? Above this size you go to a V-Twin, which drives up the cost a lot .. 3x the $$ for for 1.6x the power the new HF one v-twin generator.

My biggest problem with HF stuff costing more than a couple of hundred $$ is the lack of parts ... even Generac, which is known for abysmal customer support (but good generators) has parts available. I can understand no parts for a $50 power tool, but no parts for a $1700 generator (what the new one sells for) is insane.

I agree, the lack of parts in general for HF tools is pretty pathetic. They'll sell you an extended warranty that will replace the item completely if something goes wrong, but what happens 3+ years down the road when you need a simple part that if you had just paid an extra $100 for a different brand you could have bought a part. Seen it several times over the years with some HF stuff. However, I really wonder on a few things if you couldn't get a part from a brand name tool or equipment and have it work perfectly in that HF version. I know for example the belt in the 12" Compound Miter Saw is the same as the one used in the Dewalt Saw . So how many other things will interchange between HF stuff and brand name items.

This is why I won't get an HF box, although they tempt me every time I'm in there. It's like the Sirens. Anyway, I'm not sure about the welders, but weldingweb.com has a bunch of info about it. Guys have done a bunch of mods to it. I remember reading about them replacing a few parts on it, and adding a cap for more power, but I don't remember what parts can be swapped out, other than the gun tips.

There's a guy on youtube that I'm subscribed to who just buys a new HF 90amp welder every year. He does quite a bit of welding projects for people, and he usually pays for the welder after 2-3 jobs, after that its pure profit for him, he just buys a new one every year due to the wear his sees. He has 1 that has failed in the course of a year, but usually he says they last a year for him at least even using them almost daily. IDK, I'm lucky to use mine once or twice a year which is why I refuse to give money to a brand label. If I welded all the time sure I'd buy a brand name welder, but for no more use than mine gives me I'm fine with what I have LOL. Bought mine for $89 and after a couple of welding projects I think it paid for itself considering what machine shops and mobile welders charge. So if it fails now, I won't really be upset.
