I can’t believe you unload that box by yourself. Shipping weighted is almost 300 lbs. I’ve talked to my sons about helping unload it from the back of my truck and even they think there should be all three of us there when the time comes.

Well, I used a little gravity...

I have a small home-built hydraulic dump trailer so I tilted the bed and did a controlled slide of the pallet to the end of the bed with the pallet hang off the end a bit into mid-air. Then I used a large floor jack to lift it enough to pull/roll it off the trailer and onto a pair of Rhino Ramps. From there, I used a hand truck to roll it off of the ramps.

Probably should have rigged my lift to hoist it up then drive off from under it but the above hillbilly method only took a few minutes and I retained all 9 toes...or is it 10...? :)

It was harder to get it off of the pallet than to get it out of the trailer and onto the shop floor!

Sightly off topic, but the answer could be valuable information for everyone.

Does anybody know if harbor freight will haggle prices for their "open box" items? I've searched on Google and couldn't find anything other then the already known "open box prices aren't that good, with a coupon you can sometimes get a new one cheaper". Reason I'm asking, is my local HF has a 44" (gen1) box that's a little beat up for 319 in the open box section. I was there yesterday and didn't have my truck, so I didn't bother asking. But I'm considering going back down today. I'm just not sure if I can bring myself to pay that much for a damaged box, when they were about $360 with a coupon new.

I've done this with a few items that they didn't have inventory on, and only had the display item. Sometimes it works, depends on who you talk to, I suppose.

Yes, I have twice. Tap and die sets. Got the $85 sets for $45 and $35, missing a tap in one and a die in the other.

Talk to the store manager. It helps that the first one was a district manager and the second one had been on the shelf for a while (They can look that up).

So, went in to examine the box closer. One of the slides for the top drawer is handed and you can only open it half way, a few scratches, and the handle is missing. So I find the manager, who is super friendly and eager to help. I ask him if he could do any better, and u explain to him what I found wrong with it. He goes in the back of the store for some reason, 5 minutes later comes out and offers it to me for 250, with a free 1 year itc membership, the metric and standard socket organizers that were on top of it, along with the magnetic glove box holder and the can/screwdriver holder as well. Oh, and the couple of cheapy screwdrivers that were in the box. So, needless to say, it's in my garage right now. Haven't tore into it yet to figure out what's wrong with the slide yet though.

Thanks guys!

Also, keep in mind this is the 18"deep box, but he mentioned that "250 is what we bought it for". Not sure if that's true, but may be helpful info for anyone else looking to score a display or damaged box.

My local store had the old style 44" top and bottom marked down but wouldn't budge on the price. I was told the price is 'set by corporate' the price drop wasn't enough to justify a well used display of the old style. Tm

Any coupon for free magnetic tray? What’s the trick to getting them for free? I don’t think you can stack coupons (ie 20% off).

Each time you go to a HF store, you can use one free-item-with-purchase coupon per visit, and one generic-percent-off or item-specific coupon per non-free item. You can't use two coupons on the same item, but you can get a free item at the same time you're buying something else that has its own coupon.

You can use a 20% or 25% coupon.

And a Vulcan 20% coupon.

And a FWP or NPR item coupon.

And as many Super coupons as you like with your daily visit to each store.

Bring another adult to double up by using a separate purchase.

Funny you mention that. Almost every time I go to our local HF, I make a point to get one of those for free. Can't have too many of them, with multiple projects always going on. Just last week I bought some of those little brushes ,and bought two packs of them. Used a mag tray coupon and a 20% coupon on both of them, bought individually. Seems like the best time to get a cashier to bend the rules a little for you, are when it's slow on a weekday, mid-day.

Current link to the free mag tray coupon...

no. but some cashiers are fine with ringing them up separately if there is no line of customers waiting. (buy two items, get a free item for each)

some cashiers, though, seem to feel that this is "cheating" somehow. i suppose they just lack a sense of humor, or something. . . . .

interestingly, the local manager seems to think that the looser cashiers are better employees, while the stricter ones dont tend to be his favorites.

this has nothing to do w/ a sense of humor rather a sense of integrity. They are doing their jobs and doing them properly. We need more people like them. With that said I just bring wifey and we split the purchase :)

That isn't "bending the rules" at all as long as you're only getting 1 free item per customer per visit, like I said. :)

You say, "we need more like them", but apply an elevated tactic to circumvent their system. I see your ironically moral (integrity, I believe was the word you used?) and corrupt, simultaneous strategy. Kudos to possessing the ability to talk out of both sides of your mouth at the same time.

I agree with you 100%. I only stated that because some cashiers have told me they can't honor a "get free item" coupon, AND a 20% coupon. While others, have no issue with it.

I am not circumventing their system in the least. I am following their guidelines to the Tee and NOT putting their employees in a position to have to bend them. One coupon per customer per day, not per FAMILY. Not sure what you don't understand.

Let me break down what a customer is.

a person or organization that buys goods or services from a store or business.

Ergo, everyone who purchases something is a customer.

Of course you're right. I'm sure you always are.
I simply ask, "Can I use both of these coupons?". When they say yes, I thank them. If they say no, then I'm still respectful.
But I'll wager that your wife doesn't really have much use of their tape measures, LED flashlights, and magnetic trays. Does she? :dunno:

Whatever. Glad at least one of us is always right and I wish I could be more like you.

I never accused you of anything, just gave you my perspective as to why I don't do it. My wife has done the brakes on my vette but that is irrelevant, she still defines what makes a customer exactly. And yes she has her own tape measure, not a HF.ONE however. Back on topic, I looked at the series two boxes and the series two on the top right is not there like all promo pics. Just a snap on text looking US GENERAL logo. The manager offered to give me 20% off the old 72 box so it was a significant savings. For one looking for a good deal on a good box give it a go.

Hatchet buried.

I got the "floor model" 5-drawer tool cart a couple years ago, for like... $150, and 20% off, because it was the last one they had when I wanted one, and had a small dent in the front of the bottom drawer. Fine by me; saved me the time of assembling a new one, out of the box AND a couple bucks off. Sure, I'll take it.
And then several years ago, I bought the 44" top/bottom boxes (and a side cabinet), and they honored the 20% off coupon. I can't recall exactly when this was, but it was just before they offered the smooth, red boxes. The ones I bought then had the textured, red finish. The manager grumbled about the coupon a tad, but still said sure. It was less than a year or so later, that they clamped down on their 20% coupon policy.

A couple years ago, I sold those textured 44" cabinets (for new price!) and bought the 56" smooth red top/bottom and side cabinet, when they were on sale (about $675 for the roller, about $190 for the side box... can't recall the top box sale price). Of course, there was no sense in trying the 20% coupon, but I asked the manager if she could offer a discount because I was buying three boxes and about $400 worth of other stuff, and she said, "Sure, how about 10% on the tool boxes?". Obviously, I was pleasantly surprised.

Yeah it depends on the day with them. The manager I spoke to inadvertently (Thought I was asking an employee about the series2) was very willing to move on prices. He was very misinformed however on the differences of the boxes. He told me the only change ws the label on the front. And comparing the 72" they had on the floor w/ the old logo it did look almost the same. Double slides on top drawer, same depth (22" ish?), etc. I was hard pressed to find a difference aside from maybe the thickness of the steel which was imperceivable to me. I really just wanted to see the series 2 more than actually buy at that time. I just bought a new house and the garage is quite large so I'm looking to stock it with some new items. I bought 4 of those 24" husky HD rolling cabinets after being overly impressed w/ the build quality for the price and it was a deal I could not pass up. (I got them under $200 ea. after my military discount and a courtesy $40 more off after that, PLUS the menards 11% matching). As soon as that comes back I've got another bunch of money to spend on things I could probably do without. If that series 2 was in black now I'd probably have two more tool boxes in the new garage right now. Time will tell if they do follow the series 1 color schemes. As I said earlier in this thread, A different store manager told me that the black series 2 were already on their way out to certain stores. I hope not, wifey may make me sleep on one.

My local store has one of the old style 26" tool cabinet/chest sets on the floor but no stores have them listed as "in stock".... I know they don't list them online, anyone know if they will ship more of these or do I have to get lucky to buy the floor model when they decide to ditch it...

I cannot answer your question but I will tell you if you want it to just ask them. THey will probably knock a good 20% off it if its an older model.

They loaded mine with a forklift into the back of my short bed pickup. Got it home and disassembled it while it sat in the back of my truck. Took all of the packing materials off, every drawer and me a neighbor easily picked up the remaining carcus and placed it on the garage floor. Slid all of the drawers back in...a real PIA...it helps to have help when doing that.
