Thanks.

The last time I went to Harbor Freight, they told me that I have to install the casters and handles myself.

It looks like they give you a wooden pallet with each tool chest.

Also, I looked at the instruction manual link. It describes assembly of the casters but not what size wrench/socket to use. Anyone know?

Likewise, I couldn't find a description of the maximum drawer weight and total weight that it can hold.

Thoughts about this new Craftsman on sale for $275?

That will feel like a toy compared to the 44" HF. Those style Craftsman boxes are very flimsy. The HF has a reinforced angle iron frame. Craftsman of that price point are typically just screwed or riveted sheet metal.

Anybody know how to get a deal on the 44 inch cabinet? When do they usually go on sale? I’ve seen people say they buy them for 379, yet I see them for 479 and no coupon

They’ll be $399 on March 8, 9 and 10 during a parking lot sale. Inside track members can get them for that price a day early on March 7.

I was talking to the local harbor freight about getting a 44" box and they mentioned a 7 or 30 day price protection, has anyone had any experience with that?

yes, you buy it a few days before the sale, save the circular with the lower price, and come back during (or after, if it is really that busy) and get the difference refunded. just make sure you dont dally, and miss the window. I usually prefer only a few days, it is supposed to be 30 days, but occasionally I hear 7, too.

a good way to both avoid a potentially busy time, and make sure you actually get something that might be in short supply. if you are nervous, you can always ask them while you are purchasing it.

Parking lot sale say specifically that the prices aren't valid for prior purchases (i think?)

you may be correct, but for some reason I recall picking up my motorcycle lift a few days before the parking lot sale, and getting the refund to match the sales price the Monday after . . . ..

it might not have been a parking lot sale, but it is hard to imagine it being anything else. . . . ..

anyway, you are more likely to be correct than I am, so one should check before pulling any triggers . . . .. .

Best bang for the buck would be the 3 ton Pittsburgh for like $70-80 bucks.

Check hfqpdb.com and keep in mind there's a parking lot sale coming up next month

Awesome. I was a little jealous of my friends Blue box he got around Black Friday. I think I'm gonna get one this time around and replace the two HF 5-drawer roll carts I've got kicking around.

I presaled one today for the full price and I'll stop back in on the 8th to get mine price matched.

Anyone have any luck using a week old expired coupon? Was supposed to go last Friday to pick up something. Had family emergency and haven’t had any time to go until today. Didn’t realize that the coupon expired last week.

The cashiers don't check the dates...they just scan the coupon. If it works, it works. I don't think you will fool the computer, as the barcode/coupon code has the date attached to it in the system.

Your best bet is to go to https://www.hfqpdb.com/ and find a new coupon.

Go online, add the item to cart and add coupon code. If it works online it will work at the store.

Sometimes my favorite cashier will have some type of coupon or % off that he keeps in the drawer if I can't find my coupon or I missed the date.

Thanks to both of you.

My old Volvo engine B230F weighs about 341 lbs with its aluminum head and cast iron block.

Next semester, I plan to take an engine rebuild class to rebuild a junkyard Volvo engine and stick with that car indefinitely. Plus new engines are all aluminum so weigh about 100 lbs less.

Given my circumstances, does it make sense to have a margin of safety with engine stand weight and to pay a few dollars more for a 1000 lb capacity ($48 with above coupon) or stay with 750 lb capacity engine stand for $36 (after 20% off coupon). Or would I be wasting money?

When there's not a huge price difference like that, I'd go for the beefier one. It's just 12 bucks plus it has an extra wheel. Now, the 2000lb one is about $99 so that's a bigger jump.

yep. always go with greater capacity for short money extra.

as we used to say when I was younger: it is not that we want to go 150MPH on the motorcycle, it is that if you can actually go that fast, imagine how well it handles at 75.
