Has anyone had any luck finding replacement filter elements for Harbor Freight air filters/regulators? I've got several of the filters, but I can't find replacement elements for any of them. I'd really like to get different micron sizes if possible for different applications and gradual downstream improvements.
I've got the following:
  • MERLIN 1/2 in. NPT(F) Industrial Air Filter Regulator (58547)
  • MERLIN 3/8 in. NPT(F) Desiccant Dryer and Filter (58180)
  • MERLIN 1/2 in. NPT(F) Air Filter with Regulator (58182)
  • MERLIN 3/8 in. NPT(F) Air Filter with Regulator (58178)
  • CENTRAL PNEUMATIC INDUSTRIAL Compressed Air Dryer (40211)
I've also attached a picture of my setup. I've added a large fan on a temperature controlled outlet to assist with cooling that isn't in this picture.

Can't help you with your quest, but welcome aboard with your first post!

I spy a harbor freight refrigerated dryer and an after cooler. Nice.

Off topic, but what is your opinion of the refrigerated dryer?

Hello Larry,
Thanks for the response. I haven't had a chance to use the dryer much yet. I just installed it, and I'm waiting for a new pressure switch and check valve for the tank. The little bit of testing I did with it went pretty well. The air was much cooler, and I was able catch a little more water through that last air filter.

That's a pretty tough ask. These filter/regulators are sold by tons of different companies and almost none of them sell replacement filter elements. The exception are the ones like your first item which are meant to be user replaceable.

Rest assured, if it's sold by Harbor freight, it's sold by others. It's probably a matter of figuring out what the corresponding items are from others.

For the industrial filter/regulator, it looks like Eastwood sells a version of that and they sell replacement filters. It's also sold under the Devilbiss name and several others.

The dessicant filter/dryer is also sold as a dewalt. Looks like Eastwood sells that one as well but they don't list any replacements available. Same with the 1/2" piggyback filter/regulator.

In general, these things are rated for a certain flow rate and if you start swapping filter elements around, you're going to impact the flow characteristics.

I think you'd be better off just looking for replacements for the whole apparatus with the correct sized filter element. You'll always find downstream uses for the ones you're replacing.

This is extremely helpful! Thanks GeoBruin!

I have the MERLIN 1/2 in. NPT(F) Air Filter with Regulator (58182) as well with the 40 micron filter. The filter element looks the exact same size as my Speedaire 5 micron filter (part # 4ZK44)
I'll switch them out later today to double check.

Thanks for the response. Did you have a chance to try the swap?

For anyone that needs it, I believe this is the coalescing filter for item# 58180

I'll add others as I find them.
Do a Google search for "Norgren 4444-01"
This is the one I bought to replace the filter catridge in my Harbor Freight 58180
Cheapest one I found is $30, here...
